From a passenger's point of view!

Advantages: Comfort, style, adaptability
Disadvantages: Haven't found any yet!

...We now have a Vauxhall Zafira Design with 2-litre diesel engine. It is dark blue in colour with bright blue cloth seats (I can’t stand leather seats in cars, they get too hot for me!) I have taken a look at the Vauxhall site – www.buypower.vauxhall.co.uk - and the current price for this model is about £17.000. As regards the technical stuff, as I said earlier I don’t know a lot about the workings or cars so this bit won’t last long! The main things ...
...has ABS – anti lock braking system – which I once saw demonstrated and have rarely been so impressed. It really does make a difference in the way she holds the road round bends. The other big plus is the fact that there are both driver and passenger air bags. Now this is something I hope I never try out, but it’s nice to know it’s there! There is also power assisted steering but that’s pretty standard these days I think. The fuel consumption is ...

The last time my company car came up for review, I had to find a vehicle that would still assist me to do my job (IT Field Support), but also able to carry my family of five kids. After carefully looking into price, features and versatility the Zafira came out as a clear winner, here is why. Price The Zafira range starts at under £13,000, which for an MPV is amazingly good value within itself, but when you include things like air-con as standard ...
...'Comfort 2.0Dti 16v,' which was £16,500 at the time, but can now be picked up for about £1000 cheaper. The main reason that the car is cheaper is that the basic design is based around the existing Astra range, so it did not need to be designed from scratch. Features on this model 'Flex-7' seating, which allows you to convert the car from a 1-seater to 2-seater to 5-seater to 7-seater, or just about any combination in between with the minimum of fuss. ...

Vauxhall Zafira Elegance 2.0 DTI I originally meant to write this report 7 months ago, immediately after taking delivery of my new Zaffy as I was so impressed with it. Now that it is run in after covering some 10,000 miles,I feel I am in a better position to pass comment. From the outset,I had never really taken any notice of MPV’s/People Carriers or what ever other label takes your fancy. I had been a Vokswagen man for the past 17 years, driving ...
...chance we were passing a Vauxhall garage (Gillespies of Lenzie,Nr Glasgow) so went in and had a look. Before we knew it,we were all away for a test drive for about 30 mins. There was no pressure from the salesman (Eddie Clements) and we eventually put pen to paper and bought it. I had never had a diesel before but sadly, there were no petrol ones available at the time and I guess I was just a bit impatient,so this time decided just to go for it. I ...

Advantages: The extra rear seats are always with you folded under the floor
Disadvantages: You have to empty the middle row to get the rear row out, no sliding doors

...vehicle. I bought a Vauxhall Zafira Elegance 2.0 DTi from new in July 2003. This was the top of the range diesel and I added to it Vauxhall's Technical pack, Winter Pack and Climate Control. Vauxhall of course are part of the American General Motors (GM) Company and you can find the occasional GM sticker on it. Other parts of the world know them as Opel. The Zafira is generally classed as a mini MPV, it's essentially based on the Astra (old model ...
...12 month road tax. Vauxhall look after you well during and after the sales cycle. They send you a satisfaction survey and a free pen to fill it out. There is one year full AA cover supplied and for £99 an option to upgrade year 2 and 3 from very basic to full cover. Recommendation ------------------------ Overall the vehicle is extremely practical - if you look upon a car as a vehicle with a job to do: get people and/or stuff from A to B efficiently, ...

The Great Oil Eater

Advantages: Adaptable, great for family with 3 kids
Disadvantages: Eats oil. Vauxhall very unhelpful when problem with the car.

...had been running well. Vauxhall initially refused to repair the car because they said the car had run out of oil. As it had been checked 4 days before and was fine this seemed a little ridiculous. My husband had checked the car from cold, whereas the manual says run the engine, leave for 5 mins then check the level. However the AA said this would not make a significant difference. The manual also says you need to check the oil level every 600 miles ...
...- we bought up with Vauxhall but they would neither confirm or deny this. However they did say that in the new Vectra hand book they warn that the diesel engine can use a lot of oil - this was no comfort. I have found more information on the internet to support this finding (through doing a search on lycos and ask jeeves). Eventually Vauxhall stripped the engine. Because they were unable to tell 100% how the engine failed they replaced the engine ...

Maybe I got a duff one.....or maybe not!

Advantages: Space - lots of it. Good cruiser, hatch-like handling
Disadvantages: Poor build quality

Some mixed feelings about my Zafira. I've had it now for nine months and 10,000 miles, having bought it as a "nearly new" (four months and 8,000 miles old) at one of the big car supermarkets. I had spent a couple of months making my decision on which load lugger to buy, and test drove a number of MPVs and 4x4s before settling on the Zafira. It took a fair while to find a model with the light interior trim, as the standard dark grey/black trim had ...
...I love it? Quite frankly, no I don't. I don't despise it, but for me it is too flawed. I previously owned a VW Passat Sport 20v, which I did thoroughly enjoy driving and owning, but had to sell for practicality's sake (along with it being about 400 miles short of 100k). The Zafira easily fufils my practicality requirements, having managed a 1,000 mile marathon trip around deepest rural France with 5 passengers plus allied luggage with ease. It frequently ...

Advantages: Price and design
Disadvantages: Low on features but I guess that's because of the price

...could buy a brand new Vauxhall Zafira. We are now convinced that we made the right decision. It depends what you are looking for in a car. The Club version of the Zafira that we opted for is a basic no frills car. However it has everything that we want and of course if you pay more you can get something with more features. A definite advantage of going for the 2.0 DTi is that air conditioning comes as standard. We have just been to France in the ...
...far I'm concerned it's not worth going for smaller engines as they would struggle to cope with a car of this size. Diesel makes the car more economical to run The Zafira is extremely well designed and makes great use of space. What that means is that you have a smaller car overall - something that my wife was very keen on, without appearing to lose out much on leg room and luggage space. The flexibility with the seating sytem is well documented ...

Zipping about in a Zafira

Advantages: Economical 7 seater. Versatile seating arrangements
Disadvantages: ONly lap belt in middle of middle row. Blind spots

I have had this car for 18 months (it was 2 years old when bought) so now feel qualified to comment on it. It was bought due to the imminent arrival of our fourth child. We needed another seat and found that the Zafira offered the most at the price we could afford. We also took into account fuel economy and the price of insurance. Running costs are not significantly more than the 4 door diesel saloon we had previously. The Zafira is neatly packaged. ...
...use and versatile. It is quick and easy to put up an extra seat in the back at any time as it folds into the floor. With 5 seats up there is great boot space but with all 7 up there is precious little space for shopping, etc. Only the smallest of buggies fit win the boot with all seven seats. We took our family of six people to France camping this year and needed a roof box for the luggage. However, most Zafiras already have roof bars. We travelled ...

...paper, but personally I think Vauxhall have made a pigs ear of this. The engine is economic, yet so sluggish it fails to reach 4000 revs before bottling it. The noise is also very lous from it, so this is not a perfomance car by any stretch of the imagination, it is quite frankly disapointing. I really think this is a practicality wizard, but I can't tell you how much this ruins the potential for vauxhall to fly its flag above its rivals in this ...

A Necessity for Larger Families

Advantages: No other manufacturer can beat the Flex-7 seating design
Disadvantages: Find yourself taxiing everyone around!

I bought my Zafira as new/build to order from Jamjar.com in January 2003 (facelift year), though it wasn't delivered 'til mid April. Having looked at the model overviews, I noticed that the diesel version actually included items such as ABS, which is a paid for option in the petrol line-up. Despite being an entry level model, the Club variant ticked all boxes bar one for me (adjustable steering column available only with comfort model upwards). ...
...and handling are both reasonable. Insurance rates are one of the lowest for MPV's, and certainly swayed me away from the larger Ford Galaxy and its VW/Seat sisters. Performance is steady, but fuel economy is a little disappointing unless all you do is "extra urban" mileage. Cost of ownership (servicing etc..) is also higher than I would like, but not excessive. Pro's When I bought it, the Zafira was the only true 7-seat compact MPV, and certainly ...

20000 miles of joy!

Advantages: practicality ,spaceousness,economical
Disadvantages: bland interior,radio cassette

Having had my Zafira for just over 4 months I can honestly say this car is just like quick drying varnish!IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN!! I manage to carry all my work equipment in the very well proportioned boot under the cover blind.I can carry 3 adults in relative comfort in the rear plus even a small adult can be seated in comfort in the fold out seats in the boot!.I've covered 500 miles in one day and felt no journey tiredness from the driving ...
...its torque and eagerness to pull and show many other cars a clean set of heals!Fuel economy is now an average of 48mpg ,most of my time is on motorways at an average of 75mph.The engine isn't thirsty for oil either ,I've only had to top it up with 1.5 litres of oil in 20,000 miles which isn't bad for a new engine. My only bugbear is the interior door handle thats black plastic like the door panel and its disapears in to the darkness at night!.The ...

EXCELLANT ALL ROUNDER

Advantages: extra seating is great when you have three children fighting in the car.
Disadvantages: the back doors are quite heavy and with the children leaning on them when they get out we have had to have the hinges welded and strengthened

...bought second hand from a vauxhall dealership, which is something i would highly recommend. We find the extra seats great although we do not use them daily, in fact we have properly only used them 4 times since we have had the car. Seats are easy to put up and down especially considering that we have two car seats in the second row of seats. Another plus pont is that two of our friends have actually slept in the back of our car with all the seats ...
...point we have found is that the back doors are very big and quite heavy, with the children getting in and out of the car and being less than careful we have had to have the hinges on one side welded and strengthened. However i would highly recommend this car to anyone with children and who does the school run as it is both economical and practical. ...
