Delicious no-meat bolognese - yum !

Advantages: Healthy, low fat, comforting
Disadvantages: Need to do some chopping !

...Bolognese. However if you are vegetarian or vegan you needn’t be left out of our national love-fest with this comforting dish with my soya pasta “Bolognese” which is a common result of my labours in the kitchen. Instead of using beef mince I use textured vegetarian protein which is also known as soya mince. You can find this product at wholefoods stores and good supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsburys. It needs to be rehydrated before use with ...
...(e.g. 100g of dry mince gives 300g of rehydrated mince). The soya mince soaks up the flavour of the surrounding sauce which will take away its bland taste. You can also use firm minced tofu as an alternative to the soya mince. I would also recommend the use of organic carrots and celery for the simple fact that these veggies in my opinion taste way better than their non-organic cousins. Righty ho…here are approximate ingredients for a good dinner ...

4 Bean Vegetable Chilli

Advantages: Cheap, Delicious, Healthy, Nutritious, Easy To Make/Can Bulk Cook
Disadvantages: None, That I Can Think Of!

...for me! As a vegetarian on a diet, I am always trying to find tasty meals to eat that don't make me feel like I am on a diet, this dish is PERFECT for doing this as it's full of flavour and fills me up, yet is not fattening and all ingredients are good for my health. I actually came up with this chilli after not being able to find my usual weight watchers recipe from one of their cookbooks (due to it having been packed up in a box after moving house) ...
...am also the kind of vegetarian that does not like food that is attempting to taste like meat, the taste/texture of meat is not appealing to me so to eat that would not be enjoyable, and believe me I have attempted it in an effort to be polite after somebody made a 10 mile round trip looking for vegetarian sausages for me to eat… needless to say, I almost threw up on their kitchen floor, even after using lashings of tomato ketchup haha. I find it ...

Rasta Salad and Brownies

Advantages: Tastes delicious
Disadvantages: Some of the ingredients might not be easily available outside the Caribbean

...Any true Rastafarian is a vegetarian and will only eat ‘Ital’ foods. Basically food that is served as raw as possible and without canned or processed foods. Some Rastafarians say they can eat fish, but not shellfish. Pork is a definite no-no. Liquor, milk, coffee and soft drinks are also seen as unnatural. For all you feminists out there, you might be interested to know that many Rastafarian men are the ones who do the cooking. It is common for the ...

Disadvantages: You will not like it,if you don't like spinach!

I am not vegetarian but I love that pie. Spinach-pie (Spanakopita in Greek) is one of my favorite. The way I like it best is the way my mother is making it. I have made it several times myself but I can’t beat my mother's who is coming from a place in North Greece that the people there are famous for their wonderfully made and delicious pies(Ioannina- lovely place). Here is the way I am making it: Spinach-pie (Spanakopita) You buy 1 kilogram spinach. ...

Then, add the chopped spinach a handful at a time. Cook until the spinach is wilted. You will notice that a liquid is released after 5 minutes or so. They'll Come Back For More

Advantages: Simple, easy, & tasty
Disadvantages: None

...This is a simple vegetarian recipe that tastes really good. Probably better for the cooler months, as it is a “stew”. Right, the ingredients you will need are as follows: 1 Large Onion 4 - 5 Medium Sized Carrots 5 – 6 Medium Sized Red Potatoes (I prefer the red, you can use any kind really) Celery Stalk 5 Tomatoes (I prefer vine) 3 Courgettes 1 Can Borlotti Beans 2 Vegetable Stock Cubes (I use Oxo) 1 – 2 Cups of Water Oregano (dry is fine) ...
...all the vegetables. I usually chop into larger chunks. You will only need to use one third of the celery stalk. Heat 7 tablespoons of Olive Oil in a 2qt saucepot. Once oil is hot, add the onion, potatoes, and carrots. Simmer for about 8 minutes, just to slightly soften as well as adding a bit of a “crunch” to the carrots & potatoes. Add the celery, Borlotti beans (drained), and tomatoes. Also add the water, beginning with one cup. You don’t want ...

Add a little water and mix with a fork until you get a dough. Place a little flour onto a work surface and roll ...

Tabbouleh - A turkish delight.

Advantages: Quick, cheap and Easy to make.
Disadvantages: None.

**********Tabbouleh********** I am not a vegetarian, however nor am I lover of meat. Whilst I will eat it, I am also just as happy to eat a meal consisting of other foods. Tabbouleh is one of my favourites. The main ingredient is bulgar wheat, or sometimes spelt burghal. Normally I am not a fan of lentils and things like this but having ttried it at a friends I was very impressed. It has a slight chewy texture to it, however it is also very tender. ...
...that has been partially boiled then dried. The Turkish word Bulgar means bruised grain which is why it is also sometimes confused with crushed wheat. Bulgar wheat is very similar to cracked wheat in consistency and texture, but is lower in fat and has more nutrients than cracked wheat. It also contains B vitamins, iron, calcium, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium and zinc. so a very healthy food. The other ingredients are ones that you will tend ...
