Advantages: It's free. But then the cover doesn't exist either. It's not worth it. Disadvantages: It's not worth it. You are left without cover and out of pocket if the worst happens.
I was browsing the website in September/October when I was pointed through a freebie site to Pets Pyjamas who had a deal with free pet insurance. Reading through the small print, it looked okay, so I immediately signed up my two cats. I waited for the insurance certificate to come through, but it wasn't issued, so I chased it up by trying to re-register the cats. The website said I had already registered them so I felt pretty confident. My mother ... ...time and hadn't received her certificate either so I didn't worry unduly.
About a month later, one of the cats, Bob, came home with half his leg ripped apart by a dog. Hence, instant panic, and three days in the vets for him, waiting for the swelling to do down. Lots of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and finally some serious stitching up. He was pretty lucky he didn't lose his leg and he was a pretty miserable puss for a while.
The bill came to ...

Advantages: lifelong policy, cheap, easy set up online Disadvantages: £50 excess per condition
Bought my West Highland Terrier slightly more than 1 year ago. My vet suggested I take out a lifelong policy for her. What are lifelong policies?
basically if you take out a lifelong policy then if your pet develops a condition e.g arthritis, your insurance company will continue to pay for that condition as long as you continue your policy with them. If you switch to a different company the new insurers could decide not to pay for that condition. ... ...anytime but it is better to stick to one.
Anyway when i first took out a policy, it was with norwich union. They were the cheapest at the time...£15 a month. When it came time to renew the policy, the price increased to £16 a month. Yikes! I decided to shop around and found halifax which also did a lifelong policy.
Advantages:
Halifax premium- £84.58 costing me £7.05 per month!!!!
Also their cover was much better than norwich union.
For halifax ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Everything - dont bother
My experience has been almost identical - but added to that I have been told only 65% of the claim - excess is covered now.
Again I have paid for 3 cats for YEARS and I made a claim in Sept after my cat was seriously ill and I have still not received the cheque (Jan).
Emails are ignored - the phone is not answered. My premium increased by 33% when my cat turned 9 and I checked out the rates Vs other insurers and it was competitive BUT little did ... ...of the claim is covered now. THIS WAS NOT HIGHLIGHTED TO ME.
When the cheque is received I will cancel. My cat is likely to get this illness again and it is now excluded. WHAT IS THE BLOODY POINT! I have paid more in premiums over the years than the pathetic £600 they are paying towards my claim. ...

Advantages: able to make some claims Disadvantages: take months to sort out, expensive and many errors made.
Have had a policy with E&L for several years now and have had to claim a few times as Ellies getting old and needinhg more treatment. Paid in for several years without a claim but when it comes to making a claim it takes them MONTHS to pay out. This latest claim has turned into a doozy. I sent the claim form in in early Feb and finally got a response from the 4 days ago...they were turning the claim down as they said I had already claimed for this ... ...for hip dysplasia but this most recent one was for bloody diahrea medication/tests etc. How could they confuse the 2???
I called the vets just to make sure I had'nt made a mistake, which I hadn't, so tired calling E&L but couldn't get through. Tried emailing them but no answer after 2 days so emailed them again NOTHING!!! Not even a courtesy email to say they'd received it and were looking into it. I've had a quote from Sainsburys and as soon as ...

Advantages: Hard to think of any other than they will insure older pets Disadvantages: They are very slow to pay out on claims
This company appears to give terrible customer service. I have claimed for two problems with my dog simultaneously, one was a small accident that meant he had to have his paw stitched and the other was infected ears. That was late december 06/ early Jan 07. I Still not recieved cheques despite having recieved letters end of March agreeing amount of settlement and stating that I needed to sign and return paper agreeing amount so cheques could be sent. ... ...time I rang I was told they had quite a backlog of claims to settle and I would hear soon. I am soon to be an ex-customer and would NEVER recommend them to anyone, in fact quite the opposite. I work for an organisation that prides itself on customer service and this makes the level of service I have recieved seem even worse. It appears as if they are more than happy to take your money and but not so keen to repay you when you make a perfectly satisfactory ...
