    Enticed by the fact that a budget set aside for a second hand landrover defender, could actually purchase a brand new model in our preferred colour, is what prompted us to look at imports in the first place. Virgin cars were our choice of company due to the model we wanted not being offered at many other companies we checked. Also the website seemed clear, easy to use and great prices with an estimated delivery time of 12 weeks.     The fact is that the service is operated by a company called Motor Solutions on behalf of Virgin, who merely lend their name to a growing number of websites operated by the same company (they also operate under the name of ‘Showroom.co.uk’ and Showroom 4 Cars’ and, I’m sure, many others). You can tell if there’s a strong chance that it’s a Motor Solutions website by the address (it will be a Barnsley address – S75 postcode and probably using PO Box number 378, as do both Virgin and the companies mentioned above).     We ordered a car (diesel Ford Fiesta) from them in May. There were no problems with delivery, after they got my deposit (22nd May) the car was delivered in 3 weeks time, on the 12th June. However, the car was not air conditioned, as we requested and they promised (they had this on tape luckily). Also, its steering wheel was 10-15 degrees out! We rejected the car the same day, and were told that we would get our deposit back within 10-14 days (although their Terms and Conditions specify 30 days). This is where the nightmare began.     First ordered car at end of january 2005, paid deposit and waited until the estimated 6-8weeks were up. Phoned to enquire and got no real answer as to when we could get our car. Eventually told there was a delay in production and they had no date at that time. No contact from them at any time and no answers when we contacted them until we mentioned we needed car before 3rd June as we were going on holiday then.     I ordered a 1 year old Ford Fiesta Zetec from the Salford Branch. I was told this car was ex stock, and I would be able to collect it in about 1 week. It actually took 8 weeks, over thirty phone calls, and two further visits to get my car. I was constantly told "its nearly sorted". I was told the registrations of two different cars.Both times these were "on there way". In the end I got a completely different car altogether.     I ordered a new Audi A3 (basic specification with no extras, as this can delay the order)on a 4-8 week (estimated) delivery date. At week 9 and after receiving no calls from the sales staff I enquired as to the whereabouts of the vehicle. It took over 10 days of constant calling to be finally told that I had a further 8 weeks to wait. I am now entering week 18 of my 4-8 week order. Virgin Cars still can not give me any information as to where the car is.     The web site is easy to use but for specific information you have to either e-mail or phone them. We visited the car lot in Manchester, which was not as big as it appeared on-line. Not all the types of car listed on the web are physically on site. We already knew which car we wanted to purchase and had a pre-set cash budget with which to barter. The sales person was very helpful, but didn't have enough authority to agree a deal without frequently 'asking his manager'.     You've flown Virgin Atlantic; have a virgin One account mortgage; drink Virgin wine and exercise at a Virgin Gym. BUT I would advise you NOT to buy a car from VirginCars.com. They are a case study in broken promises....a perfect example of empty-headed customer service people with no influence over how the awful company works. I ordered a VW Touran from Virgin Cars in February as the price was cheaper than a dealer and they said they would deliver within 8 weeks. But then everything started to go wrong....     I initially bought my Ford Mondeo 2.0 Di from Virgin in September 2001 and I am now coming to the end of my three year warranty on the car. Overall, the buying experience with Virgin was good. The delivery time on the car was longer than they originally stated on the website and they were not very good in terms of keeping me in the picture as to what was happening with the delivery.     I found Virgin Cars an excellent place to purchase my vehicle. I brought a Peugeot 206 from them and found the service impecable. I ordered my car on a 20 week lead time and to my surprise the vehicle actually arrived after 16 weeks. I was kept up to date on monthly basis, which then went to weekly as the vehicle arrived into the UK. My vehicle was delivered on the date and time they specified and was in prstine condition.
