Are you a Virgin

Advantages: 0% balance transfers, friendly staff, reward points
Disadvantages: No high street branches

...was shopping in my local Virgin store on the weekend when I got approached by one of their staff who asked me if I’d like some free virgin vouchers. Free vouchers of course I replied. She then proceeded to ask me a few questions, which were something like: - Do you have a full time job? Are you on the electoral register? Do you have a cheque guarantee card? When I answered these questions she told me that I had qualified to apply for ...
...had been accepted for the virgin credit card and that I would get the card and pin number shortly. There was no mention of what my credit limit would be on this card. Sure enough the next day I received my pin number, followed by my card the next day, an introductory letter, information about rates, my limit and activating the card. I activated the card by telephoning a free phone number and found the staff there to be friendly and helpful. When ...

oh no...get out quick if you can!!

Advantages: website easy to use, great introductory offer
Disadvantages: hiking up interest to an extortionate 34.9%!!!

...I applied for a virgin credit card shortly after I returned from my world travels, id been working a bit abroad but id still managed to rack up a bit of debt along the way, plus id started a new job and had bought a car, the deposit of which went on my old credit card. Adverts for virgin were everywhere offering a 0% balance transfer rate, it looked pretty attractive, so I went for it and transferred my balance. VIRGIN WEBSITE Colourful and certainly ...
...numbers you need to contact virgin with any issues, your contact details and access for changing any of your details. The last tab is where you can make a payment towards your balance. Again this is also really simple to use. GENERAL VIEW OF VIRGIN AND ITS SERVICES.... Ok, so Ive now had my virgin card for four years, admittedly for alot long than id planned, as well as going way over my time of 0%. However, I happily carried on paying my balance ...

I have gone red and I rather like it.

Advantages: Reward points (for some), flexibility in APR choice, and options to change your APR at any time
Disadvantages: High(ish) APR rates, Internet and phone based only (some may not like that).

...was shopping at my local Virgin Megastore, when I caught a leaflet advertising their new credit card. "in for a penny, in for a point" thought I, and took a leaflet. It wasn't too in-depth, but pointed me to the Virgin Money website which contained a link to the Virgin Credit card. A wealth of information was to be found. From the website, there was a specific link to the Virgin Credit card. I won't bore you with all the details, as if you're reading ...
...my requirements off against what Virgin had to offer: - no annual fee: Yes - a completely free credit card with no charge for the privilege of owning it! - APR - as this didn't matter to me, I wasn't *too* worried, but Virgin offers a choice of cards with APR, which I thought was interesting - Rewards for using the card - Virgin pays its customers back in a reward points offer, and also has an exclusive 'members shop' with different offers available. ...

Virgin Credit Card : 'Plastic Fantastic'

Advantages: Lower interest rates than other credit cards, stylish choice of card designs, widely used
Disadvantages: Minimum payment of £25 is quite high. Additional charges can be costly, alot of additional post.

The Virgin Credit Card from Virgin was launched in the UK in 2002. Since that time it has grown into one of the most well known and recognizable credit cards on the market today. Offering low APR, interest, and a range of other features such as money off other virgin products this card do have many rewards. Signing up to a Virgin card is easy and can be done either on the phone or the Internet. I chose to use the internet because I felt that it was ...
...clicked on the virgin credit card option and this loaded up the details and benefits of the card along with how to sign up. Through the online credit card application you simply fill in your details, income earned per year, address and phone number. You have the option to choose a card design, at the moment there are 3 different colours to choose from, black, red and pink. There is an option to take out payment protection which basically costs less ...

Virgin - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Advantages: Good initial offer
Disadvantages: Awful customer service, soaring interest rates, no communication unless they want something

...to them and MBNA. Eventually Virgin agreed to the payment plan, however I regularly received threatening letters from MBNA, threatening court action, despite me sticking to the agreement. I also have an HSBC credit card, which is at the same balance. However, I was a bit concerned that I was paying only £40 interest a month on my HSBC credit card, yet I was paying £98 interest on my Virgin card. After speaking to one of their advisors I was told ...
...the interest was still unchanged. Virgin denied that they had any recordings of the calls and promises made to lower the interest rates. I was then told I had to pay £389 to bring my card back within the limit before they could review this. They didn't seem to understand that with the £100 I was paying each month, £98 of that was not being cleared because of the interest. Eventually they lowered the interest, although reading some of the other horror ...

0% Credit Card Junkie

Advantages: Smooth application process, decent size credit limit
Disadvantages: Not found any

If you're looking for a credit card to transfer outstanding balances to, then this one does the trick nicely. The application process went through very smoothly and within days I was issued my card giving me 0% on balance transfers for 9 months. The credit limit was set at a decent size too which as a 0% credit card junkie is a major factor as it meant I could move all my outstanding balances from cards where the 0% was ending to this one and not ...
...months! (You never know I might even pay it off in that time!) When I rang to make my balance transfers, the staff were very helpful and answered all the questions I had. There is an extensive reward system with this card, however as I don't intend to keep it after the 0% has run out, I haven't really bothered to read about it. I'd much prefer to use my other card that gives me cashback on all purchases. As for complaints in the other reviews ...

(Air) Miles ahead.

Advantages: good introductory offers (0% balance transfer), AIR MILES ! ! ! !
Disadvantages: there are cards with lower interest rates easily available, this is 15.9%

...decided to apply for a Virgin Mastercard as I am already a member of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and it was a good way to top up the airmiles, get a good offer on balance transfers, and it's backed by a big bank (MBNA Europe). The application couldnt have been easier, I filled out the application online and within a couple of days got the letter confirming my credit limit and terms and conditions. A couple of days after that and my PIN arrived, ...
...yet to find anything about Virgin that I really dislike, although a lower APR would be nice! The introductory offer was 0% on balance transfers for 9 months, although I have recently had a call offering to extend that for a further 9 months, plus 2000 airmiles for signing up. I pay no annual fee on this card although there is an annual fee option that gives higher airmiles in return on sign up. The APR is 15.9%, not huge but higher than a lot of ...

Virgin and MBMA rip off

Advantages: 10% discount in Virgin and ZAVVI
Disadvantages: Punitive Terms & Conditions for late payment.

...on time and in full. Virgin and MBMA don't like that. They don't make money from people such as I - but they do. I paid one day late in December and was charged a £20 'late fee'. Fair enough. I paid on time and in full for January and February but have still been charged interest at 16.9%. When I called to enquire why, apparently it's all above board - you incur a 'late fee' and they then charge you interest for two months no matter if you pay in ...

Virgin Credit Card Rip Off

Advantages: Low initial interest rate
Disadvantages: revert to high rate for "bad account management"

I took out a virgin card and the application process was very smooth. I transferred the balance from another card with a interest rate of 15.9% because the rate was 13.9% and I only pay the minimum each month. After about a year I became ill and made a claim on the payment protection policy. The insurers took a long time to make the payment and although I was assured by customer services that I did not need to worry because they were aware of the ...
...the payment by the due date and so I made a payment myself. Shortly after this my card expired and I did not receive a replacement. When I queried this I was told my card had been suspended because of the manner in which my account had been run (there was a direct debit set up so they were receiving all payments on time). This was without any notification to me or any explanation. It took me a lot of phoning around (at least five or six calls where ...

Dafydd

Advantages: None whatsoever
Disadvantages: Very high interest charges, rubbish customer services and can't pay the bill at a bank

...balance from another card to Virgin over two years ago. It looked like a good deal - 16 months interest free etc. BUT after only one month I received my bill just four days (including a weekend) before the payment date and guess what? - The interest free period was cancelled and I was charged £12 'late payment fee' even though I paid it directly to Virgin via online transfer!!! As for customer services - Well if you ever manage to get to speak to ...
...reaction? "Our bills are sent out in good time and we can't be responsible for the Postal service". The Bill was postmarked 5 days prior to the latest payment date. As for their interest rates - When I got the card they were charging around 16% on purchases and despite several reductions in the bank rate over the last six months they have continued to increase their interest rates. They currently charge 29.949% Today I've received a letter stating ...

Sharp increases in APR

Advantages: Frequent 0% offers
Disadvantages: Not the lowest APR

...typical now, BUT what makes Virgin so special is that towards the end of the 9 months, they offered me another 6 months, but for purchase. As with most credit cards, you have to be careful about overlapping offers like this as your payment will go to the item with the lowest/no interest first (ie 0% will be paid off first while the 15.9% will be sitting there gathering interest). So what I did was to transfer the outstanding balance away from this ...
...immediate discount of 10% at Virgin stores, on and off line. And you get Virgin points to spend at member shops, although I had never used my points yet. Competitiveness of APR -It is somewhat average now, although it was slightly high last year where the average is 12.9 - 14.9% Product package -Discounts at Virgin Stores, 0% APR offers very often, and earn Virgin points with purchases, better than average I suppose. I broke my cherry with Virgin

Advantages: 0% 12 months on balance transfers
Disadvantages: 2% BT fee - but better than others at 2.5% now

...my credit card balance to Virgin and hence broke my cherry (I haven't changed for a long time). The pro's The on-line application was made through a referral site and I gained points (that get turned in to ££ later on) and the application was almost instant. ...more reward points through the virgin shops (particularly good if your a music, buy DVD's or play computer games -- like myself). Cons:- Cash withdrawals are expensive at 15.9% (correct at time of writing) and I see no reason why anyone would withdraw cash from their credit card. But if you need cash - there are over 630,000 cash machines that let you withdraw funds. Slow website - may be for technical reasons but the website is slow and I had ...

Excellent card

Advantages: Exellent staff, good introductory rates
Disadvantages: None, providing you don't breach T&Cs

Virgin (provided by MBNA) is an excellent card with an average APR (15.9%) but excellent introductory rates (e.g. 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months) ... and regular new offers for BTs (e.g. 3.9% for 8 months). Virgin Credit Card

Advantages: Easy to apply for online, 0% on balance transfers for 6 months and you can earn reward points to spend too
Disadvantages: Quite a high APR after 0% has run out

...this card online at the Virgin money website and was pleasantly surprised at how easy and quick it was to complete. They didn't want to know too much information that required you to get your belongings out, all I needed was my other credit/store cards to be able to input the information for a balance transfer. Once the online form was completed, within about 2 weeks I received a form in the post to sign and return in a pre paid envelope, and there ...

I did however have to ring them to make sure that the balances had been transferred over, which hadn't so I had to get out all the details, again, to do it over the phone, which was a pain. So my advice is don't fill in all the balance transfer details, just ring them when you receive your ...
