Advantages Advantages 0% balance transfers, friendly staff, reward points

Disadvantages Disadvantages No high street branches

A few weeks ago I was shopping in my local Virgin store on the weekend when I got approached by one of their staff who asked me if I’d like some free virgin vouchers. Free vouchers of course I replied. She then proceeded to ask me a few questions, which were something like: - Do you have a full time job? Are you on the electoral register? Do you have a cheque guarantee card? When I answered these questions she told me that I had qualified to apply for the Virgin Mastercard credit card which earn me points when I shopped in Virgin. I was in quite a good mood that day so I decided to go ... more

4 Stars Virgin Credit Card : 'Plastic Fantastic' Review with images 01/12/2009

Advantages Advantages Lower interest rates than other credit cards, stylish choice of card designs, widely used

Disadvantages Disadvantages Minimum payment of £25 is quite high. Additional charges can be costly, alot of additional post.

The Virgin Credit Card from Virgin was launched in the UK in 2002. Since that time it has grown into one of the most well known and recognizable credit cards on the market today. Offering low APR, interest, and a range of other features such as money off other virgin products this card do have many rewards. Signing up to a Virgin card is easy and can be done either on the phone or the Internet. I chose to use the internet because I felt that it was the quicker option and less hassle. I went to, www.virginmoney.co.uk, clicked on the virgin credit card option and this loaded up the details and ... more

Advantages Advantages website easy to use, great introductory offer

Disadvantages Disadvantages hiking up interest to an extortionate 34.9%!!!

Oh dear, where do I start? I applied for a virgin credit card shortly after I returned from my world travels, id been working a bit abroad but id still managed to rack up a bit of debt along the way, plus id started a new job and had bought a car, the deposit of which went on my old credit card. Adverts for virgin were everywhere offering a 0% balance transfer rate, it looked pretty attractive, so I went for it and transferred my balance. VIRGIN WEBSITE Colourful and certainly attractive, getting and remembering a username and password is also really simple - no complicated ID numbers etc that ... more

Advantages Advantages Reward points (for some), flexibility in APR choice, and options to change your APR at any time

Disadvantages Disadvantages High(ish) APR rates, Internet and phone based only (some may not like that).

I had a standard bank-issued card for years - you know the sort - given to you when you open a bank account with one of the main UK banks even though you probably don't want it, and thus never tend to use it. To be honest, I wasn't a big credit-card user until I started online shopping. For me, the importance of security online is imperative, and I'll always use my MasterCard rather than Switch/Delta when handing out card details online. Anyway, my bank ended their reward scheme for utilising their credit card, and I was a bit peeved to say the least. OK, apart from shopping online, nothing ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good initial offer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Awful customer service, soaring interest rates, no communication unless they want something

I cannot express how much I would urge people not to get this credit card. Not even for it's initial offers - well, unless of course you are able to completely clear the balance before the offer expires. I got this card around 2 years ago, with a £3200 limit. Due to the difficulties I was experiencing at the time, this quickly reached it's limit, however I always met the minimum payments, and often paid more than this. However, due to more financial difficulty, I had to set up a payment plan with Virgin. This alone took 3 weeks to do, along with 4 separate phone calls to them and MBNA ... more

Advantages Advantages Smooth application process, decent size credit limit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not found any

If you're looking for a credit card to transfer outstanding balances to, then this one does the trick nicely. The application process went through very smoothly and within days I was issued my card giving me 0% on balance transfers for 9 months. The credit limit was set at a decent size too which as a 0% credit card junkie is a major factor as it meant I could move all my outstanding balances from cards where the 0% was ending to this one and not have to worry about looking for another one for 9 months! (You never know I might even pay it off in that time!) When I rang to make my balance ... more

Advantages Advantages good introductory offers (0% balance transfer), AIR MILES ! ! ! !

Disadvantages Disadvantages there are cards with lower interest rates easily available, this is 15.9%

I decided to apply for a Virgin Mastercard as I am already a member of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and it was a good way to top up the airmiles, get a good offer on balance transfers, and it's backed by a big bank (MBNA Europe). The application couldnt have been easier, I filled out the application online and within a couple of days got the letter confirming my credit limit and terms and conditions. A couple of days after that and my PIN arrived, shortly followed by the card itself. The art to any credit card is to pay it well before it is due, that way there is no way you can get hit with ... more

Advantages Advantages 10% discount in Virgin and ZAVVI

Disadvantages Disadvantages Punitive Terms & Conditions for late payment.

I am about to pay my card off and close the account. Let me explain. I have been an exemplary customer. I have paid my card off every month on time and in full. Virgin and MBMA don't like that. They don't make money from people such as I - but they do. I paid one day late in December and was charged a £20 'late fee'. Fair enough. I paid on time and in full for January and February but have still been charged interest at 16.9%. When I called to enquire why, apparently it's all above board - you incur a 'late fee' and they then charge you interest for two months no matter if you pay in full on ... more

Advantages Advantages Low initial interest rate

Disadvantages Disadvantages revert to high rate for "bad account management"

I took out a virgin card and the application process was very smooth. I transferred the balance from another card with a interest rate of 15.9% because the rate was 13.9% and I only pay the minimum each month. After about a year I became ill and made a claim on the payment protection policy. The insurers took a long time to make the payment and although I was assured by customer services that I did not need to worry because they were aware of the claim, I did worry because the insurers did not make the payment by the due date and so I made a payment myself. Shortly after this my card expired ... more

    Advantages Advantages Frequent 0% offers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the lowest APR

When I first apply for this card, I wanted it because it had the longest 0% APR offer of all (at that time). I did not plan to use it for purchase at all. The introduction 0% transfer for 9 months offer may seem very typical now, BUT what makes Virgin so special is that towards the end of the 9 months, they offered me another 6 months, but for purchase. As with most credit cards, you have to be careful about overlapping offers like this as your payment will go to the item with the lowest/no interest first (ie 0% will be paid off first while the 15.9% will be sitting there gathering interest) ... more
