4 Stars From NTHell to Virgin on greatness Review with images 25/02/2010

    Advantages Advantages Excellent product

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor customer/technical support, still waiting for premium HD channels

Introduction Virgin Media was formed in 2006 in an attempt to predominantly rival Sky in the pay TV market. Virgin was created with the merger of two cable companies, Telewest and NTL who, in their own rights were not big enough players to take on Sky separately. In the early days of this merger, not a lot appeared to change and it was business as usual. This all changed in March 2007 when Virgin decided to take on Sky by refusing to pay over inflated prices for Skys non-premium channels (Sky One, Sky News and Sky Sports News). This lead to these channels being dropped from the Virgin platform ... more

Dear Sir/Madam, I have come to a point recently where by I feel the need to put a formal complaint in writing regarding long standing ongoing and new problems with my Virgin Media services particularly with reference to the Billing/Customers Services departments and to the overall quality of the Virgin Broadband service. Having been a customer from September of 2006, which is where the problems started, each and every month we provide Virgin Media with our Bank Account details in order to pay for our entire account via Direct Debt to enable us to receive the full Direct Debt discounts, these ... more

Advantages Advantages One bill for all services

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit of a shock in respect of channel quantity when moving from sky.

For 20 years when it comes to television entertainment breakthrough's Sky Television has been at the forefront. Over the last 12 months Sky have been battling for a bigger control of the population, there biggest desire to become a what is known in the business as a triple play contender. But then late in 2006 Richard Branson stepped out of the shadows making himself a quad play contender, and with firm plans to take up another three services the battle between Virgin Media and Sky has just begun, but is the battle over before its begun for one contender? First things first, Virgin Media is ... more

Advantages Advantages Basic sky channels are back!, Some good VOD content, good unlimited internet packages

Disadvantages Disadvantages VOD reliability not 100%, webmail reliability & mailbox size, customer service rather 'hit or miss'

** Important News/Update (Edit) 16/11/08:- Ok so on Thursday the basic Sky channels finally returned to Virgin Media, at least for those of us who are on the higher TV packages (their included in the L and XL packages, which are the two most expensive packages, I believe), which was good news for me! now I can access Sky1, Sky2 and Sky3 (Sky3 is also available on Freeview), as well as Sky News and Sky Sports News and for people on the XL package, we also get Sky Arts and Sky Arts2 as well as Sky Real Lives, which is nice, so obviously im quite relieved and impressed with that. I've also been ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, cheaper than Sky in some ways, good Customer Service! On Demand service is excellent.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tied into a contract, not available everywhere yet, cannot buy individual channels like with Sky.

Virgin Media About Virgin Media once formally known as NTL has been one of the most popular service providers for the last 5-8 years, getting more and more popular with their innovative way of getting your TV, Broadband and telephone to you. Instead of using cables, Virgin use fibre optic which is where the picture, internet and telephone are send down the small glass wires rather than down a metal cable. Think of those little lights you get, which look like hair sticking out of the top, and when you turn on the light, it is transported right to the tip of the “hairs”, rather than coming out ... more

Advantages Advantages Some good on demand services.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor TV picture on Samsung and LG sets. Broadband throttled.

This is an outline of our experience with Virgin Media who took over our cable connection. Some aspects have been quite good but others far less appealing. A Sudden Unexpected Takeover *********************************** ** Having been one of the early adopters of Telewest's cable TV and 'phone service since the first cables were laid in Birmingham, I've found the service fairly reliable for over a decade. One day it became apparent that our provider had changed (without warning) to Virgin Media. The first thing I noticed was that the TV menus changed their format from the blue backgrounds of ... more

Advantages Advantages The V+ box and television services

Disadvantages Disadvantages Losing certain channels due to greedy Sky!

THE BEGINNING I started off with a company called 'Telewest' in recent months this service is now 'VirginMedia' When the man came out to fit my box upto the tv, I was impressed with how tidy the workman worked! he made minimal mess and kept the cable's neat and tidy- screwing them to the wall so they weren't trailing on the floor. He wouldn't leave until he had shown me how to operate the box and the remote control. Once he had left I recieved a phone call from virginmedia asking if I was happy with the man that had been. I wondered if I had just dropped lucky- but upon speaking to friends and ... more

Advantages Advantages Broadband better than any ADSL.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Watch their prices, and don't ignore special offers just because you are already a customer

I didn't so much opt for Virginmedia cable broadband; it was more like having someone approach you in the children's home and announcing "these are your new mummy and daddy" with no input from you. My original broadband supplier, Telewest joined forces with NTL a while back, and then with the addition of Virgin Mobile became Virginmedia. My current broadband-only package with VM is what they term the XL version, i.e. the second fastest, with their 50 megabytes XXL package just about the fastest you'll find. To be fair, when a cable company says you'll get 20 megabytes, there's none of this "up ... more

    Advantages Advantages ??

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too Many to write here......

The Story So Far……. = Oh My Goodness, where do I begin ? It all started when we moved house in June. June 9th, we rang Virgin to confirm we were moving on the 15th. Virgin said they had no notification that we were moving, despite the fact we had rung them 2 weeks previously to tell them !! So, they finally found our file, and it actually confirmed that we were moving house. Great stuff !! Can we have a Virgin Plus Box (henceforth known as V+) ?? Yes, but you have to pay £150 for the installation today. Ok, not a problem. Paid for that. Engineer was to be booked for Saturday 16th June, between ... more

Advantages Advantages Much more content including full series on demand. No extra charge for HD.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slows down a little at peak times but not enough to complain about.

If you saw my review on Sky TV, then you will know why I now have Virgin Media as a provider. After a bad situation with Sky, or rather during the situation, I decided to go with Virgin. I was with Virgin years ago (when it was NTL) for TV, broadband & phone but changed to Sky while keeping Virgin broadband. I had a good 'permanent' deal with NTL as I had saw a better offer and they more than matched it. When Virgin took over, the first bill I received was for the regular full amount. When I enquired I was told, "We're not NTL so we don't have to honour any previous offers". I replied, "My ... more
