Versatile, and very very cheap

Advantages: Cheap on-net and landline calls, cheap on-net texts, great customer service
Disadvantages: No MMS, no GPRS, no photo messaging, no cost benefit cross-network

...I went to my local Virgin shop to check out their phones. In those days, Virgin shops stocked a lot more refurbished handsets than they do now, so I actually got a Philips Savvy for £25 with calling credit and SIM included. I only switched away from Virgin when I made new friends who all had mobiles and were mostly on the Orange network (as it's cheaper to call on your own network than to call 'cross network' mobiles). Even though I have stayed ...
...Virgin mobile offer. However, their service does have some small but significant differences to most other mobile companies, and that's the reason I won't be going back to them fully at the moment - although I do have a Virgin phone as a spare. --> ABOUT VIRGIN MOBILE Virgin Mobile is a so-called 'virtual' network. Rather than operating their own mobile network as the four major UK networks do, Virgin rent space off T-Mobile (formerly One-2-One). ...

Voted one of the best around

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: none

Virgin Mobile is quite a new network and recently it has been voted one of the best networks around...I can see why! I have a Nokia 3210 which orginally cost me £89.99 but I had to buy a Service Pack on top of that for £10 to get the phone started. The SIM card was part of the service pack which include Virgin Mobile Guide, registration card,v.personal cards which allow you to hand out your number by a card and £5 free calls so really it's only £5. ...
...missed the offer unfortunally. Virgin Mobile offers a great tarrif for the phones. Here is the tarrif: Text messages - 10p 5 First minutes talktime of the day - 15p per minute (to landlines) Each minute after that - 5p per minute (to landlines) Voicemail - FREE Pre-recorded info - FREE Virgin Mobile team - 10p per call Directory Enquiries - 40p first minute Each following minute - 20p Mobiles From other networks - 35p per minute 0845 and ...

...pack. The cheapest deal was Virgin Mobile, which cost only 10 pounds including 5 pounds free airtime. It was simple to use, with pay as you go, with no extra charges, line rental, contract, etc. I'm happy with this service, although I have nothing to compare it to as I only arrived in the UK. There are many features I like about the Virgin network : - texts are cheap, only 3p to other virgin users, or other networks is 10p - Its free to pick up ...

If you like, you can get free texts about topics that intrest you like the latest footie scores. - If you're unhappy with their service, its easy to cancel, and they dont charge to unlock your phone, (provided you've spent 30 pds airtime) while other networks can charge upto 35 pounds. As with every network, there are also problems, but they are not ...

Virgin fan.

Advantages: no line rental, simple call charge structure
Disadvantages: charges for 0800 numbers

I hold Virgin responsible for the mobile phone infiltrating my life to a point where I wouldn't ' be without one now! In an arena where there is so much hype and small print, I found the Virgin service clear, comprehensive, and good value for money. You buy your phone out right, there's no line rental to pay, and your call charges are calculated in a fairly transparent way - 15p pre minute for the first 5 mins, and then 5p per minute thereafter - ...
...well as to landlines. Calls to other networks are slightly pricey, but no more so than their competitors. The factor I find most useful is that it doesn't matter what time of day you call, only how long you have spent on the phone that day. This payment scale suits my call pattern to a T, as I don't make a lot of calls, but on some days, especially if I'm organizing an event for the evening, 'I'll be making a lot of calls all at once, none of which ...

Nice and cheap!

Advantages: cheapish calls, no expiry date on vouchers
Disadvantages: phones are expensive

I decided to change to Virgin after getting a bit fed up with paying 50p per minute with BTCellnet. The phone did seem quite expensive to buy but I think that it was well worth it. The calls are now 15p a minute for the first five minutes and then 5p there after which is brilliant. Another good thing is that the vouchers dont have an expiry date on them and you dont have to pay any other charges (such as service charges). The vouchers are now readily ...

The only minor problem I had was sorted out very quickly by a very helpful and polite memeber of staff. If you can just change your SIM card in your phone, you can now purchase one of these for just £12.50. All in all I would say this provider provides good customer service, good coverage and all at fairly good rates. ...

YAY! FINALLY A GOOD SERVICE!!!

Advantages: cheap, loads of extras, simple
Disadvantages: NONE AT ALL!

...FOR RICHARD BRANSON! yes, virgin mobile is very good and the prices are nice and simple : the vouchers never expire you pay 15p for the 1st five minutes of calls you make everyday after the 1st five minutes, all your calls for the rest of the day are just 5P A MINUTE!!! :-) very good indeed! that is it - those are the prices! nothing more to learn! with this simplicity though also comes ALOT of extras! you have 'virgin radio' which you can ...

Virtually virginal

Advantages: Relatively simple cost structure and no monthly rental for contract customers
Disadvantages: Not necessarily the best deal for all

Virgin Mobile launched itself with great fanfare as Britain’s first virtual mobile network. What does that mean and should you care? Virgin Mobile is jointly owned by Virgin and One2One. It calls itself a ‘virtual’ network because it owns no physical network structure and actually operates over One2One’s mobile system. Despite the publicity, what it amounts to is an air time reseller with some added bells and whistles. In the UK mobile contracts ...
...dealing directly with the subscriber. Virgin Mobile attempts to put a new gloss on the old system by adding extras, but these amount to little more than a few dedicated information service call lines. Having explained what Virgin Mobile is, we need to look at what it offers. Since the actual connection is physically provided over the One2One radio network any comments on the quality and extent of coverage would relate to One2One’s system. There ...

I intend to stick with Virgin

Advantages: Good call charges, great Customer Service
Disadvantages: More choice of mobiles needed, no call-diverting feature available

...Nokia 3210 Pay-as-you-go package from Virgin over a year ago and can safely say that i have not had any problems with it. Of course you get bad network coverage at times (as you do with all networks) but this is not the fault of Virgin themselves. As most people know, Virgin operates on a One2One network. So why not join One2One on a Pay-as-you-go package?? Well at the time I bought mine Virgin were offering a much better deal. I have found the Customer ...
...What I really like about Virgin is that you can use an old mobile and get it connected on a Virgin Pay-as-you-go scheme by simply buying the Virgin pack. I believe they were, and may still be, the only company that don't require you to purchase a mobile from them in the package. This was very handy for me as I could give my brother my old Ericsson PF768 (which Virgin don't sell) but get him connected on a Virgin tariff. Excellent stuff! I really ...

...has a display of refurbished Virgin Mobiles, the particular model I was interested was the Motorola V3688 which currently has one of the lowest SAR figures, but is difficult to get new as it has been replaced by the V3690. reference: http://www.cellular.co.za/health/radiation_gsm_phone_a-to-z.htm The V3690 which incidently has a higher SAR figure reference: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/NASApp/commerce/gben-kb-KBDisplay?LOCATION=MAIN.UK.INTERNET.KB.HEALTH.HEALTH#sarupdt ...

But the second phone doesn't operate off it's own battery, only the mains, and doesn't vibrate ring. So I am looking at my third V3688. Fingers crossed that one is OK. A minus to the refurbished pay as you go phones is that they only come with a 6 month warranty as opposed to a year, but this is relected in the reduced cost. Orange do the V3688 for ...

Finally, a company that cares!

Advantages: Cheap calls
Disadvantages: None

The name Virgin says a lot, everything that has Virgin in front of it that I have ever had has been excellent (exceptfor Virgin Cola.) Virgin don't offer you free phones or free calls. The rates are simple, you pay for your phone (these start from £39.99) and the call rates are 15 minutes for the first 5 minutes and 5p for every minute after that. The customer care is excellent, you are not put on hold you get through straight away and topping up ...

The Newest Network

Advantages: Good allround service, quite cheap
Disadvantages: network coverage isn't the best.

Virgin is the newest entrant to the mobile network market, so what can it offer over and above it's competitors? Well, it's hard to pin down exactly. For a start, Virgin use the One2One network and buy the bandwidth from them, so if you are unable to get a good reception with One2One, you are unlikely to fare better with Virgin. Virgin only offer a pay-as-you-go service, although it is possible to set up a direct debit for as little as £10 a month, ...
...to any landline or other Virgin mobile, at any time of the day. After that, the call charges go down to 5p a minute for the rest of the day. It works out quite cheaply although, of course, as with all pay as you go packages, it depends on how much you use it. You can buy top-up vouchers over the phone using a credit or debit card, or from Virgin Megastores, WHSmiths or Our Price (and maybe other places I don't know about!), but they aren't as widely ...

Losing my Virginity with Virgin Mobile

Advantages: Cheap for a Pay as you go network, good customer service
Disadvantages: Poor selection of packages

...was an early adopter of Virgin Mobile, buying the Philips Savvy phone over 2 years ago. The billing charges were simple. 15p a minute for the first 5 minutes, 5p a minute thereafter. 0800, and 0500 numbers were free to call (Virgin was the only network to offer this). Since then, the basic structure of the service has not changed. You can still not choose to pay line rental. 0800 and 0500 calls are now charged at the local rate. Pay as you Go is ...
...a tri-band phone, i.e USA) Virgin was, and still is the best Pay as you Go network for me and many other people. It has straightforward billing, with the cheapest rates. Calling another virgin mobile is just like calling a landline (15p a minute), calling another mobile on a different network will set you back 35p a minute, this is still one of the cheapest rates of all the networks. Calls are charged by the second, so if you are quick on the phone, ...
