Volvo 340

OK, it's not going to win any design awards, except maybe for safety, but I'm on my second old 340 and I am all to pleased to be driving it. Having travelled lots of miles in lots of different cars, the 340 still is the most comfy (forget all the BMW's and big executive cars) and when you get five guys the fat gits that are my friends, it's still big enough and has the guts in the engine to keep going. I think the fact that there are so many of these cars still on the road speaks volumes for itself. How many cars do you see with 100,000 + on the clock and still going, well mine is. ...years ago I bought a Volvo 345 DL a 1.7 Litre hatchback, It needed new suspension bushes anew clutch and a new Carbouretta to get it running right but once it was running I could bet 36 mpg out of it (6 or 7 Miles per litre) thats pretty good or a 13 year old car. Volvo 340 DL 1.4 Hatchback The classic Volvo design, chunky but functional. The seating is comfortable and supportive whilst the driving position is excellent. All round visibility is quite good although the front headrests tend to get in the way when reversing. Given an H reg 1.4L in 2005. Smashing little runabout, thought I'd miss power steering, but it doesn't really need it (I can turn on a sixpence!), can go like a rocket (when it feels like it as it's an old man now!), great boot (I'm a courier so that's handy) and doesn't mind a little weight in the back (I can fit 3 large people in the back seat and still get up a steep winding hill, probably coz of the rear wheel drive). Engine accessible, making working on it easy, like the fact the spare tyre goes under the bonnet too. Not sure about the spoiler, but it comes in handy when your hands are full! Used to be a Nissan girl...now converted to Volvo (sorry old Bluebird, RIP). ...

The Volvo 340(1700 cc, C-reg, 5-speed Gearbox), I love it, because it probably saved me and a friend from serious injury in a recent car crash. I managed to hit a barrier and roll the car but escaped with only minor injuries, due to the fact that it is built like a tank.
