Full of character, loyal solid

Advantages: practical, comfortable, solid, well built, fairly cheap to maintain and run, character.
Disadvantages: fuel consumption around town, exhaust sytem expensive.

...abs, i am a true volvo 940 fan, and would recommend them to anyone, fuel economy is a little heavy just bumbling in and around town, but on a run pretty good, i went to birmingham and back on £40.00 just under 380miles....doing 80 - 90mph stuff on motorways..2.0i engine not terribly exciting but once on a roll your there, although they dont mind being revved hard either, very flexible, but these arent the sort of cars you throttle around, anyway, ...
...seat after work..like an arm chair then you put the heated seat on and you are away. i would of liked aircon however, but hey thats what windows are for ? reliability wise...absolutely top notch..never let me down once in four years, is outside in all weathers and always starts first time on the button....i could go on and on....if you are thinking of buying one...dont resist ...GET IT!!!! you wont be dissappointed by the whole car, no sqeaks or ...

If you want space and dont care about looks.....

Advantages: huge amount of space, great bulid quality, fantastic ergonomics
Disadvantages: breeze box styling

...and reliability. I own a Volvo 940 2 litre turbo, T reg estate, and it really is as good as new. With a lot of tender love and care this car can go on for decades. Despite its heavy cumbersome appearance, the two-litre turbo 940 can deliver an excellent driving experience with great handling (power steering, abs as standard). The turbo kicks some speed into the experience if that appeals; but lets get real, people who buy a Volvo 940 estate aren't ...
...for you. I bought my Volvo 940 estate from an antique dealer, who upgraded to the newer but slightly smaller Volvo 850. The boot is massive and no space is wasted with sporty curves, this car is square at every point, optimising its capacity. Volvo also make the best seats in the business, so as you can expect, the ergonomics are superb, and ideal for long journeys. The interior of the car is smart and functional, and surprisingly stylish. I'm not ...

Brilliant reliable car of great value

Advantages: very large family car with 7 seats but still a car not a bus
Disadvantages: seats in boot only suitable until about 12/13 yrs

I have owned my volvo 940 for about 5 yrs now and am looking for a newer one to replace it with. It is a wonderful family car with great features. There is an inbuilt boostyer seat meaning that if you need to give someone a lift it is always available with a perfect fitting seatbelt fo the child to travel safely. It has two seats in the boot that fold down to make an estate car with a massive amount of boot space. The 3 well sized inside seats fold ...
...and also split so that you can still have 1 or 2 children sat in the car next to the fishing rods. Downside is that when full, people can see what you have inside so you need a blanket to cover the contents. Seats in rear take approx 2 mins to set up so when driving to school it is quick and easy to set up to keep extra children dry in the rain. Safety features of this is that the children can open the boot from the inside meaning that they could ...

...pressing me to consider a Volvo as he had owned several and had always found them to be excellent and reliable. I am SO GLAD that I eventually took his advice. Since October 2004, I have been the very proud owner of a lovely red Volvo 940SE. The car is 12 years old and cost me the princely sum of £300!! I cannot praise this car enough. Yes, it does have a fair few gizmos -- but they ALL WORK. It is unspeakably comfortable and cruises at 70 - 80 ...
...car with 153,000 miles on the clock.!! Another plus factor is that there are no rattles or squeaks at all! It has a 5 speed manual gearbox, is EXCELLENT on fuel (I never expected that) and starts first time, every time!. The handling of this car is superb, like a new car and the space is amazing considering that it is the saloon model. The boot is cavernous and the back seat folds down to give even more space. There is also a very nifty child seat ...

...truly believe in using genuine Volvo parts and correct regular maintenance, most maintenance can be conducted on a weekend, using a few tools and a good manual. My 1994 940 SE Turbo has 115k miles with a full Volvo service history and this reflects a silky smooth engine, excellent engine torque, tight suspension handling breaking and steering. Carrying out maintenance my self, I recently changed the complete ignition system, consisting of Volvo HT ...

Volvo 940 ESTATE 2.0 litre

Advantages: Good reliable car, easy and cheap to maintain. Good bodywork.
Disadvantages: Slow acceleration, but great after 60mph. Cruise at ninety all day.

...car, but what a pity Volvo put the engines in the wrong way round; I suppose this means heavy servicing bills when changing the timing belt, worn wheel bearings and front suspension bushes and tyres taking a lot of wear. Maybe some V70 owners out there can alay my fears on this score. Bad points about the 940. Front wheel tracking is very sensitive. I wish the car had aircon. I suppose I should have bought a car with a/c fitted. The front air vents ...
...to the 940, these gave great air-flow in the cabin of my old 240. Also, i wish I had fitted a stainless steel exhaust when I bought the car. They generally last for about four years and always give out when least expected. Summing up. I wish I could have bought a 940 new, I would have kept it for twenty years, it is a great car, not exciting, but reliable, sturdy and cheap to run. My only fear now is, will something break during one of my long runs, ...

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

I have owned a volvo 940 estate for 3 years and have a love hate relationship with it. It is very well built, safe, reliable and easy to maintain. It has the capacity to swallow and enormous amount of luggage both volume and weight. It is happy cruising at 85/90 mph with 4 adults and all the luggage. On the downside, it is a bit dated in its design and technology. It is thirsty and mine has been plagued by annoying rattles. Despite this I am loath ...
