Advantages: Wonderful safety features! Disadvantages: A little more expensive than some other cars!
A Volvo is for life well in Shane’s case until he rights it off! Well, that not all together fair, okay so he hit the back of a Mercedes Lorry, then a Mondeo car rolled over the bonnet whilst he was on a single track road and then finally someone in a VW Polo hit the back of the car whist he was turning left. These incidents occurred in 300 series Volvo’s since then Shane has had on 440 SE, I have had a special edition 440 redline and currently a ... ...do we stick with the Volvo cars? Well it all boils down to safety and comfort at a reasonable price. I have had major back surgery recently and am due for some more in the future so sitting in a comfortable car is very important to me. For Shane comfort is important but with his accident track record safety comes high up on the list. Not only that we have our nieces and Godchildren often to stay and I would not be happy in a lesser car!

...for the insurance. With options abound it pays to be picky when buying, as the options lists go on and on. Replacing parts can be expensive at maindealers.
i still own the volvo and am not looking to change it just yet and would definantly consider another Volvo again. ...
Advantages: Smooth ride, quiet & sticks to the road Disadvantages: Extremely expensive servicing
This was my first Volvo, my first LPG car and my first estate car.
I had it from new for 1 year (only got rid of it 2 weeks ago due to opting out of company car scheme)
The car was an SE spec so all the toys, electric everything and all leather, climate control etc.
Firstly the fuel thing- LPG took a couple of weeks to get used to as it lacked power at low revs, pulling off required an extra few revs but after that there was no noticeable difference.
... ...LPG tank is in the wheel well,a emergency aerosol tyre repair kit was provided and worked when I needed it but I do Know an owner who was stranded with a flat,This also compromises boot space and the usefulness of the estate is lost a bit as the boot floor has a large raised area.Dog owners beware my Lab struggled to get comfy in the back and ended up on the back seats!!
The car itself had no faults easy to drive stuck to the road through corners ...

Advantages: Good power, nice shape, feature rich Disadvantages: None
...Under the bonnet of this V40 is quite a meaty 1.8 unit which dishes out a copious 120+ bhp and it certainly shows it. This beauty can top 100 mph without breaking sweat.
To sum up I may be paying a visit to a Volvo dealer very soon! ...

The Volvo V40 is a superb blend of sexy, safe and sensible. Lets face it - we all want the sexy car - the sporty things with two seats and plenty of umph, we also like the safe, believing that we CAN travel at 100mph in complete safety (?) - and as hard as it is to admit, for those of us with kids we all desire the sensible. OH NO! NOT THE SKODA TYPE SENSIBLE - NEVER - we like a boot, some space.
Well, this volvo has it all: Four-cylinder petrol ... ...seconds. Electronic engine management. The turbo-charged petrol engines also have twin-scroll turbo and charge-air cooler (Intercooler).
Its easy handling front-wheel drive, five-speed manual gearbox gives this car the handling of any sports car. For a large acr it has an amazing turning circle of just 10.6 m.
When we talk safety this car has it - power-assisted anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution between front and rear brakes ...

...just for the family.
Volvo what to attract a younger customer for their cars in addition to the faithful Volvo owners that keep going back.
I have driven this car now for over 10,000 miles and have found only a few minor problems, which on reporting to the local dealership have been sorted almost immediately. The customer service aspect has been extremely good.
Lets go back to the car. The V40 has a more sportier touring approach to design than ... ...close inspection from a 50kg hound!)
My one gripe is the insurance, at around £150 more than my Cupra sport 2.0 gti I found it a bit of a shock.
Overall my opinion is that Volvo have built a car to last that appeaks to all age groups ...

Advantages: The whole feel of safety, I drive my 18 month old daughter around and will never choose another make of car! Disadvantages: Heavier on the fuel than I am used to, not drastically but costs more to run than my old 1 litre.
I have owned a volvo v40 for nearly 2 years which I purchased from new. I was expecting so needed something bigger than my KA. My husband was also worried about safety so we opted for the Volvo. A little more expensive than we wanted to pay but it has been worth every penny. We travel long distances for holidays and visiting friends and it is always a smooth ride. My daughter hardly ever wakes up as it is quiet inside. I am not up to date on looking ... ...the car has lost some of the old view of what a volvo is whilst still keeping the safety and nice handling, I would recommend this car to anybody with a young family. I think the family pack is very helpful, child locks operated from the front and booster seats. ...

Advantages: volvo status symbol Disadvantages: over priced mitsubishi
...Mitsubishi factory!! OK its got Volvo badges on it but the engine & gearbox on my version are Mitsubishi. Of course I took out the T4 & LPT but settled (for tax reasons & economy) on the 1.8iSE. Full leather, climate, winter pack (heated seats & headlamp wipers)groovy alloys...Theoretically a nice car but unfortunately has some annoying problems i wudnt expect from a £19,000 otr car. The main problem is it scrunches when changing between 2nd & 3rd ... ...a memo between mitsubishi & volvo saying there was a fault on some of these gearboxes but didnt have a clue how to fix it!! Over 40,000 miles later, it still scrunches between 2nd & 3rd. Thats my worst gripe...now for the rest...it needed new rear brake pads @ 20,000 miles, it gets thru bulbs like their going out of fashion (look for 4 tail lights on v40's, normally got at least 1 blown)& the trim rattles & creaks like my old ford escort. My 1.8i ...

...bad word to say about Volvo in general let alone the V40. Having worked for Volvo safety has always been there first and main issue, and they are well know for it.
If I was in an accident there is no car I would rather be in than a Volvo, it doesn't matter what model. You cannot disagree on the safety of a Volvo with their SIPS (Side Inpact Protection System) as one of the many standard features. Being a female feeling safe in your car is so important ... ...a bad thing.
The Volvo V40 1.8 is a good economical car with all the safety of a padded cell. It's sleek with sexy curves and is a pleasure to drive, as with all Volvo's they handle the road very well being a very solid car it sticks like glue to the bends.
It's a bit difficult to comment on the gadgets etc as it depends on what specification you have, if you have a basic model (cost starting from £12000) which will only include the bare minimum ...
