Wonderful safety features!

A little more expensive than some other cars!

A Volvo is for life well in Shane’s case until he rights it off! Well, that not all together fair, okay so he hit the back of a Mercedes Lorry, then a Mondeo car rolled over the bonnet whilst he was on a single track road and then finally someone in a VW Polo hit the back of the car whist he was...

Extremely expensive servicing

This was my first Volvo, my first LPG car and my first estate car. I had it from new for 1 year (only got rid of it 2 weeks ago due to opting out of company car scheme) The car was an SE spec so all the toys, electric everything and all leather, climate control etc. Firstly the fuel thing- LPG...

Good power, nice shape, feature rich

Having driven one of these for the last 2 years through my company, I can say that it is a very capable and comfortable cruiser. I churned out over 50000 miles in this car without a single mechanical hitch and it is certainly a pleasant drive over long distances. I can certainly vouch for the...

looks, build quality, dealership service

Having exchanged this car from a GTI and driving away in an estate the general opinion was, what have I done. This opinion did not last, the comfort factor, the build quality and the cars good looks changed my mind, that an estate wasnt just for the family. Volvo what to attract a younger...

I have owned a volvo v40 for nearly 2 years which I purchased from new. I was expecting so needed something bigger than my KA. My husband was also worried about safety so we opted for the Volvo. A little more expensive than we wanted to pay but it has been worth every penny. We travel long...

“Sexy, Safe & Sensible”

sexy, safe & sensible

none

The Volvo V40 is a superb blend of sexy, safe and sensible. Lets face it - we all want the sexy car - the sporty things with two seats and plenty of umph, we also like the safe, believing that we CAN travel at 100mph in complete safety (?) - and as hard as it is to admit, for those of us with...

i thought i was getting a Volvo, but turns out its made along side the Charisma in the Mitsubishi factory!! OK its got Volvo badges on it but the engine & gearbox on my version are Mitsubishi. Of course I took out the T4 & LPT but settled (for tax reasons & economy) on the 1.8iSE. Full leather...

I haven't really got a bad word to say about Volvo in general let alone the V40. Having worked for Volvo safety has always been there first and main issue, and they are well know for it. If I was in an accident there is no car I would rather be in than a Volvo, it doesn't matter what model. You...

Good protection and comfortable, with big boot

Higher fuel consumption

This car is a brilliant car. Not just good, but brillaint. It is smooth, and sleek. Fuel consumption is satisfactory as Volvo's tend to show off. It has some of the best safety features such as SIPS (Side Impact Protection Safety.) It is an Estate car and has a good size boot, with a space for...

Open question Answer

Answer

published 02/08/2010

I have been told by a friend who owns one that the mpg for urban driving is listed at 24.6. For cruising it states 44.8 mpg whereas at speed it consumes 34.5 mpg. Hope that helps :)

Interested in reading the review of the V40 1.8 LPG Estate as I have a V70 140 Estate Bi-Fuel which I am very happy with. A comment about the service costs, all main dealers these days charge a fortune, I had a SMART car from new which only the main dealer could touch as noone else would and I regularly spent fortunes on servicing and repairs for a car with a 600 cc engine, so, if you want to avoid that, just use a self-employed Volvo mechanic somewhere who set up his own garage and he won't charge the earth!
