Advantages Advantages value for money, up there with the big names

Disadvantages Disadvantages can't fit more then two car seats in the back : (

I have owned the volvo v50 2.0S diesel for two years now and can happily say it’s a great all rounder. I remember the day we went to look at it and we instantly knew we liked it. Like many men and women of course my fiancé did a lot of research on the internet about the car before we went to view it. In many reviews it was said to be similar size and performance to the BMW 3 series and the Audi A4 just as it was a Volvo it didn’t have the same price tag. It is not only a practical family car but it has the power and style too. The exterior of the car looks extremely smart and doesn't look out ... more

Great car overall for performance and handling. But... ...For professed safety conscious Volvo, a very sensitive indicator stem means that if you so much as breathe on it accidentally during a gear change, you get three unwanted flashes, when you want none - and you can't stop it!! Great if another car thinks you're turning off when you're not!! The thick "A pillar" means you can lose view of entire cars, and fiddly console buttons and a stupid menu system means where one press will do to turn on the Traffic Announcements on any other car, this one needs six, and from three separate buttons ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast effortless drive, stylish, surprisingly roomy cargo space

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit small for 5 people, hard suspension

I acquired my Volvo V50 Sportswagon 2.0lt diesel in June of 2005 so at the time of writing this have been driving it for 6 months and have travelled about 9000 miles. It's probably worth noting that prior to this I had been driving a SEAT Alhambra 7 seater so was used to excellent visibility and acres of room inside. A change of job and family down sizing gave the opportunity for a change. I find the driving position to be generally comfortable and; easily and variously adjustable (I'm 6ft tall so need a reasonable amount of leg room). However, I have an occasionally recurring back problem so ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact yet spacious enough

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Dodgy ignition system

Driving over 40,000miles a year I need a solid, safe, dependable vehicle that has the capacity to carry a good amount of stuff and on occasion several dogs and do so in a calm, comfortable way. The V50 fits the bill. Although a bit smaller than my previous V70 it still performs admirably and has a good turn of speed when you need it. Fuel economy is good if driven sensibly (usually around 48mpg although I have acheived 55+) and still pretty good if not... something to consider carefully with prices rising as they are. My overall rating would have been excellent but for the fact that the ... more

I am also fond of Volvo,a brand which I trust most.Volvo always gives me impression of high security, straightforward and trusty. And I also regard the Volvo cars are welled designed to have a elegant apperance and comfortable inside room.Volvo V50 2.0DS 5dr Sortswagon has 6 speed manul gearbox and almost as fast as you want!It is no wonder that the sales of Volvo attain a peak in the US in 2003.There is no reason that it wouldn't be popular if you are a lover of speed .The fuel conseption of it might be a little larger compared to smaller cars but it is just OK to drive in the wild.I ... more

Advantages Advantages Smashing handling, outstanding build quality, very good performance/MPG

Disadvantages Disadvantages Insufficient front and rear storage pockets, offside blind spoy.

Owned a V50 for just over 12 months and 32k miles - it's quite the nicest, most reliable and fault free vehicle I've ever owned. Delivered free from fault and continued in that vein - 2 services and 2 replacement tyres are the only costs. Apart from all that it is a 'looker' and attracts many admiring glances and comments. Driven hard the car will deliver 40+mpg, driven sensibly 47 is not difficult to achieve, and if you've plenty of time, driving at 60mph it will happily deliver over 50mpg. The engine can appear noisy in low gear under hard acceleration but noise levels quickly tail off as ... more

    Advantages Advantages Looks, performance, quiet

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small for an estate, poor fuel economy

I acquired my vehicle new in July 2004, so it was probably one of the first UK models. As a company car driver, I have now covered 60,000 miles. The car has a reasonably powered 136 bhp 4 cylinder diesel engine which feels quite powerful, however having driven a Mondeo TDCi, I am disappointed in how noisy the Volvo unit actually is. Fuel economy is also not the best. I drive the car moderately on motorways, A & B roads and can only return a maximum of 42 mpg. The interior is functional if not slightly bland. Load capacity is reasonable but a Volvo 'estate' it isn't. Having said that it takes 2 ... more

    Advantages Advantages good restyling

Disadvantages Disadvantages older models will now be worth less

Both the already good looking V50 estate and its somewhat less attractive sibling S40 saloon are receiving facelifts. The changes in this model include a new grill a new front and rear headlamp clusters restyled exhausts restyled bumper new instument panel The D5 diesel also gets a 6 speed gearbox and the top of the range petrol T5 has a power increase to 230bhp (10bhp increase from previous model) These minor changed have helped to keep the car looking good however the volvo does have many rivals so if you are considering the volvo there is also the Alfa Romeo 159 £21,000-£29,000 Ford Focus ... more
