Advantages Advantages Many uses, easy to use all rounder and a must for anyones tool kit

Disadvantages Disadvantages The smell may offend some people

Everyone must have heard of something called WD40 … no, it’s not a tribute band to the 80’s group UB40, nor is it a new name that this coalitions call the unemployment system. It is in fact possibly one of the most useful little inventions that has graced the world of sticky bolts and squeaky hinges. What is this WD40 I hear you ask?, (or is that just the voices in my head at it again..?). Well, firstly, here’s a bit of one of those facts that may be classed as ‘useless information’, although it may come in handy one day in a pub quiz or something… (This information was found after a quick ... more

I have just returned from a great holiday in Dorset, not far from the Devon border. We were lucky with the weather and spent much of our time on the beach. It was a totally relaxing holiday only slightly marred by the oil washed up onto the beach from the cargo ship Napoli which was beached off Branscombe on the Devon coast in January 2007. Despite my nagging to avoid the tar we still managed to get our trainers, legs, towels and various other items of clothing/ bodily places spotted with oil. Off I went into the local village hardware store for some help. "Do you have anything to…" I started ... more

Advantages Advantages Myriad Uses - Comes in various size containers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes only a "quick fix" solution - Environmentally unfriendly

It has been said that Love is a many-splendoured thing and in my experience, the same can be said of WD40. Yes... In fact... WD40 is a many-splendoured thing and thus by following my rather convoluted logic, it becomes apparent to me that the manufacturers have indeed managed to synthesise Love in a can. No tradesman of note or ardent DIYer should be without a can of WD40 in their toolbox. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that if you hire anyone to do some work around the house for you and wish to ensure they are not a charlatan of some description, you should insist that you are ... more

Having recently had the misfortune of having to remove my car battery to plug it in to an industrial charger for around 48 hours, I found that I was struggling to get the battery out owing to the nuts and bolts that were holding it in. What with my care being some 13 or so years old and this being the original battery, it was somewhat stuck and I too was also somewhat stuck on how to remove it as I couldn't get my car to a garage for them to charge it up - for a start, I couldn't get my breakdown people out as I only have cover for over half a mile away from my house (and I was right outside ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me.

A little while ago we had a good tidy out of all the boat lockers and the store cupboard at home and found we had accumulated no less than 4 cans of that magic spray WD 40. Although this might sound a lot, the environment in which we live and work often calls for a quick spray of this multi talented, penetrating oil. I had a look on the web site to find out some more information to add apart from our own experience over 30 years, of using WD to loosen, protect and clean various boaty and other things in our lives. I found lots of info but not what I wanted which is what are it's ingredients ... more

Advantages Advantages Very versatile and cheap and available to buy in most places

Disadvantages Disadvantages The various myths about its use on the human body

From the smell to the actual effectiveness of this essential 'tool', this is one that I make sure I have never run out of. With 5 functions it cleans, protects, penetrates, lubricates and displaces moisture. At the moment I have been using the penetrating function as I'm trying to remove my toilet seat (having just moved into my first home, the idea of using someone else's seat was beginning to get on my nerves). A few squirts of this precious liquid loosens rust-to-metal bonds, so I'm hoping that when I get back up there, the screws magically open. The can I have has 250ml of this distinctive ... more

Advantages Advantages Does everything it says on the tin... and almost everything else

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit smelly for indoors

Along with a pair of tights to replace a broken fan belt, an egg to seal your burst radiator and a typically flat spare tyre to test your patience, a tin of WD-40 should always be part of the improvising mechanic's toolkit. Frozen door locks, wet ignition leads and seized nuts and bolts are just a few of the almost infinite variety of roadside predicaments that a can of WD-40 can see you through. On the tin it lists it's possible uses, lubrication spray, water dispersant etc, but honestly this stuff can be used for just about everything apart from breath freshener. Tar spots and dead flies ... more

Advantages Advantages penetrates lubriates smells ok

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Drys out eventually

Ever had a siezed bolt or an annoying squeaky door hinge? WD-40 is by far the best fast solution to a multitude of mechanical related problems. The smell from the product has a kind of sweet aroma which athough I cannot say it is a smell I would crave for(like Bisto!) it is definately not unpleasant. Most other penetrative sprays smell of parafin or other oil based substances. Unfortunately there are a few diasadvantages as usually WD-40 is often only a temporary solution and further action is required to make a permanent repair. Advantages Advantages Can Be Used For Almost Anything Around The House

Disadvantages Disadvantages Strong Smell Sometimes Only A Temporary Fix

When it comes to doing a spot of DIY around the house then I am afraid to say I am usually fairly useless, I can just about manage to change a plug, replace a light bulb etc. but there my skills end. One thing I do possess however is a tool box because after all I am a bloke and I do need to have such a thing in my garage if only to impress my dad. Currently the contents of my aforementioned toolbox are as follows: Two different screwdrivers, one slotted and one with a pozi Phillips head, an adjustable spanner and a small tin of WD40 lubricant. It is this latter item that I have chosen for ... more

WD-40 WD-40 has got to be the product that every household should not be without! It has so many uses which make the product really very versatile indeed. The fact that it is also bought fairly cheap per bottle makes it one of those home staples to go along with white vinegar and Vaseline. I get my can of WD-40 from Poundland as it can always be found in there (just like me Lol) and for £1 you get a nice size can for your money. I think generally you can get a can for around £1 in most places but they also sell them in slightly smaller cans as well as a slightly larger one but as expected the ... more
