WKD Original Vodka is a brand of alcopop which is part of the RTD (ready to drink) market and is extremely popular in the United Kingdom. In 2006 it was placed number 2 in the RTD Market. The name is pronounced "wicked", however, when the drink was revamped, the logo was changed to "WKD" although many drinkers still refer to it as the original name… "wicked". WKD was born in Scotland and launched in August 1996 and is still as popular today, if not more. You can purchase these bottles in either 275mls or 700mls. Generally, the 275ml bottles are sold in shops and pubs and the 700ml bottles are ... more

Well its another Saturday night and yes another trip to the alchohol section in the local Tescos supermarket is on the agenda. The fact that me and the boyfriend are totally skint means rather than a night out on the lash we have to settle with the second best, a night in front of the tv with plenty of alchohol for company! So we decide to wait until the lottery draw is over before going out. Well you never know do you we could just happen to win the jackpot! (Yeah Right!)Then just imagine i could guzzle as much alchohol as humanly possible, PURE HEAVEN. Anyway enough dreaming for me for today ... more

4 Stars A Wickedly tasty drink Review with images 09/02/2005

Advantages Advantages Tastes nice, doesn't give nasty hangover

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some may find taste too sweet

I remember the days of Hooch and other ghastly alchopop drinks which after a couple of bottles the taste seemed to get worse, I could only stomach 2 bottles of the stuff at one time before feeling extremely sick. These days the alcohopop drinks, such as Bacardi Breezer and Smirnoff Ice seem to taste much better and more enjoyable to spend the evening drinking, sometimes up to 6 bottles a time without feeling ill. My ultimate favourite is WKD Blue. It comes in a clear glass 275ml bottle with a blue rectangle sticker and the words WKD. You can always spot it due ot he bright blue content. On the ... more

Blue WKD has been in stock in my local for some time. I've been looking at it, and wondering "should I give it another go?" (memories of orange WKD still linger, and I wasn't too impressed by the blue one some months ago). So, yesterday, bracing myself for the experience of letting something blue past my lips - let's face it, most blue foods are blue 'cos they've gone off and are covered in mould! - I handed over some hard-earned cash to the not- so-friendly barmaid, and gave it a go..... HARD FACTS: PRICE: £3.10-£3.50 (West London pubs). DESCRIPTION: 330ml bottle. Clear bottle. Dark blue ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great Colour

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much Fizz

As a rare treat, I went out this Friday and you guessed Saturday! After drinking one or two lagers on Friday (several actually) but who cares, I thought I would be adventurous and get an ‘Alcopop’ so I bought a blue WKD (I think WKD means WicKeD). I paid an extortionate amount of £3.40 (in a posh pub). It comes as a bright turquoise coloured clear liquid in a clear glass bottle, the ABV is 5.5%, about normal % for alcopops. Out in pubs and clubs it comes in the normal sized bottles. (275ml). But I think I remember seeing bigger bottles for about £3.50 in my local off licenses. Friday night, as ... more

I wont lie, i am an alcopop girl. They're cheap, cheerful, and i cannot stomach beer. And If i'm being perfectly honest, the colours are exciting! I suppose as well as this there is probably some kind of childhood love, as WKD was the first drink to get me drunk... The taste: To be frank, WKD is ridiculously sweet. It is syrupy, sugary, raspberry-y, fizzy and to top it all off... blue! It does have a bit of a reputation to be sickly after awhile, however being the lightweight that i am... i haven't got to "awhile" before falling over. Also, though it is the first drink i would pick up on a ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't really taste the alcohol!!!!

I was sitting in my local just yesterday studying the thousands of different alcopops on sale, when my eye fell upon one which i hadn't seen for a while- Blue WKD. It is an alcoholic based soft drink made with vodka and a blend of colours and flavourings(produced by Beverage Brands) which is more commonly known as and "alcopop" they come in a variety of colours and flavours and are markeded mainly at the younger generation. It is, as the name suggests blue in colour. (approximately the colour of windscreen wash/brake fluid) It comes in 330ml clear glass bottles (this is good as most alchopops ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive in pubs/clubs

WKD original vodka blue, but I like to call it blue juice, as it tastes like it and the colour is bright, light blue. The same blue as the blue smarties! When drinking this drink, don't expect to taste the alcohol, because you won't, but you will taste this gorgeous, quite sweet, refreshing, berry taste. I can't quite think of which berry, but it definately tastes of berries!! If I have a choice of any alchopop I always choose this, as it taste so moreish. If you don't like sweet alcoholic drinks then don't choose this, but I find all alcopops sweet, wkd blue seems to have a unique sweet taste ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful tasting drink. Great for mixing.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Low alcohol %.

The WKD family are known as 'alcopops' for there pop like taste and low alcohol content. There are four flavours to tickle your fancy; WKD Original Vodka Iron Brew ("WKD Orange" or "WKD original") -- Orange coloured, Irn-Bru flavour. WKD Original Vodka Blue ("WKD Blue") -- Blue coloured, bubblegum/blue mixed fruit flavour. My personal favourite. WKD Original Vodka Red ("WKD Red") -- Red coloured, cranberry flavour. WKD Core -- Cider-based drink, apple flavoured, green colour. Personally very sweet and not a drink to last the night. This is the most recent WKD which was introduced in 2009. On a ... more

Advantages Advantages nice taste, doesn't make your breath stink, cool colour!

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be dangerous as you don't realise how many you've had!

This is my drink of choice, wherever possible. The taste is light and sweet and it doesn't leave you feeling bloated like lager or beer. There are a lot of Alco-pops available these days. When Blue WKD was released it was the only blue alcoholic drink available, (without mixing a strange brew with Blue Bols in it anyway!!) and then suddenly everybody jumped on the bandwagon. There are now numerous blue alco-pops available, and I have tried most of them. None, in my opinion are as good as WKD. They often taste either too sweet, or have a nasty after taste like diet Coke. If I am in a bar and a ... more
