Smackdown 3 Preview 21/10/2001

Advantages Improved From SD2.
Disadvantages Not Much Changed.

This preview was written by me for www.gameaday.co.uk With the unparallel success of Smackdown 1 and 2, THQ decided to release a third game in this very successful series and appropriately and prudently named it "Smackdown 3:Just Bring It". A little difference though, it is on the PlayStation 2, instead of the PS1. Not much has changed in gameplay terms from videos and pictures displayed on numerous sites. At the time when WWF Smackdown was set to be released I was quite excited and looking forward to it. Having loved WWF Attitude, I was rather hoping a superb game was to be released. I bought the game at the recommendation of a few friends and at the recomendations of some writers who had reviewed it in magazine articles. It had been spoken of as a superb game which was extremely entertaining to play. This made me decide to buy the game. Having played the game inside out, I find it well and truly over-hyped. Having played and enjoyed WWF Attitude, I was expecting WWF Smackdown! to be enjoyable and good value for money. Although it has sold a lot, I find it well and truly over-hyped. Thanks to its WWF licence, the game has sold well. The presentation of this game is horrible: after all it is wrestling and it should feel more ‘hardcore’. Instead, we are presented with menu's that feel as though they were designed for an older generation of consoles like the 16-bit SNES. One of the worst things about the game is the music. So you are in love with the sports entertainment show that is wwf?, and you have tried smackdown?, well is seems to me that you have been hit over the head too many times with a steel chair. This is the finest game on the playstation just now even for non wwf fans, the action is quite brilliant. This game stands out among the wwf playstation range as it is the most realistic game to be brought out. three way dances, royal rumbles etc... The graphics are also superb the attention to detail is amazing you can even see the rock doing the peoples eyebrow. All i can say is bring on the next wwf ... more

Advantages Lots of variety of rings, wrestlers and match styles.
Disadvantages Lots of loading.

Anybody out there who loves the WWF wrewstling this game is a must have. It has loads of different types of matches you can play, loads of different wrestlers to choose from, and by the use of a 4-way multi-tap you can have up to 4 players playing at any one time. The game has so mush for you to do in it, you can fight a Royal rumble, be a referee whilst your friends fight, start a career, make your own players etc. You get to watch all the entrance movies and theme tunes as your players walk down to the ring and you get to do all of there special moves i.e. (for the wrestling fans amongst ... more

WWF Smackdown is one of the best wrestling games on the market and why because of the stunning graphics and excellent sound effects. It is a big improvment of past wrestling games. One reason why this game is tops is because you don't just have to fight in the ring like past wrestling games you get of the ring and fight in backstage areas such places like the kitchen,boiler room and the car park where you can also use all sorts of weapons to hit your opponent from fire extinguishers to a trash can. This is the best Wrestlin game ever made and i would recomend it to anyone even if you dont like wrestlin you will after you played this. There is a wide choice of characters, and it has a brilliant create a superstar mode.Also you can go back stage and everythin there is cool!!! The only thing i dont like about it is you cannot be too cool and rakishi. But over all a cool game. If you was gonna buy any playstation game i would recomend it to be this one. one more bad thing it is a bit old now but it is still the best game and as the wrestlers change there images more than there underwear you ... more

Disadvantages You throw a mental when your brother gets on the game because it is so addictive

WWF Smackdown is undoubtedly the best wrestling game brought out on the playstation. Other people who own this game will definately agree, If you own a playstation and are a WWF fan then this this is the one for you. Do not even attempt to buy WCW Mayhem,WWF Atitude, WCW Thunder,WWF Warzone,WCW in your house or WCW Nitro. Warning they not be to high standards compared to smackdown. Disadvantages Outdated already with old wrestlers because it changes so fast

WWF Smackdown is probably, at the moment, my favourite game. Not only is it better than its predecessor WWF Attitude but it indefinitley 'Layeth The Smacketh Down' on it! The thing that I have found frustrating with the other wrestling games on consoles is the fact that the controls are too difficult. Before nobody knew how to pin the opponent or how to do their special moves, but with 'WWF Smackdown, it is surprisingly easy. WWF Smackdown is different, not least because of something called the Special Guest Referee feature. With this you never know which familiar face from the halls of the World Wrestling Federation is going to be your judge and juror next. It can turn friends into bitter enemies, and induce groans when a fighter that's recently been double crossed ends up taking the referee post for a later, crucial match.
