Not-so-blue genes

Advantages: Offers sandwich degree, broad range of modules offered, very good labs
Disadvantages: Youe friends have all graduated when you come back from a sandwich year (but you do make new ones!)

In 1998 I graduated from Cardiff with a 2:1 in Genetics (one of the degrees offered in the department of biological sciences). One of the best aspects of the course at Cardiff is that it is extremely broad with a wide range of modules such that you can mix Genetics with microbiology, physiology, neurobiology etc, throughout the duration of the course. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how much you enjoy the subject) hardly any immunology ...
...changed now since the department has merged with another. The teaching at cardiff is excellent and meetings with personal tutors frequent to ensure that everything is OK. The course also offers the opportunity to incorporate a sandwich year into your degree, providing you can secure a placement from those on offer or through your own enquiries.
