Do ya want fries with that book- An Insiders Guide

AdvantagesSometimes it does so well.

DisadvantagesAnd sometimes not.

"I should say from the start here that I am biased in some ways about Waterstone's. As an employee in a Scottish branch both full time and part-time for five years, I gained some unusual insights about this chain of bookshops. I finally left two years to pursue another career, but have often been back as a customer. Hopefully my experiences can provide some helpful information to those wanting to know more about Waterstone's as well as the book trade ..." Read review

My second fave book shop

AdvantagesGood books, nice staff, very clean.

DisadvantagesSome books are expensive

"Waterstones is my 2nd favourite book shop - Ottakers being my main love! Both placed in the centre of Norwich, not far from each other, I'm usually in either one or the other! Today I was in Waterstones. I saw a book by Raymond Briggs called 'Ugg' I wanted to check out, so I merrily walked in the shop, and was delighted to find the book staring me in the face! But, I'm not here to talk about Mr R Briggs - I want to talk to you about Waterstones. The ..." Read review

Looks good on the surface...

AdvantagesStaff and service, atmosphere and layout.

DisadvantagesIt's just so painfully average!

"Waterstones is one of the best-known names in bookselling, with branches, oh, about every forty yards on the country's high streets, and an online shop. Their meteroic rise has disguised the fact that the stores are pretty average really. The layout and atmosphere I might as well start on the most positive note - the layout is good, a lot more spacious than most bookstores, and it's never any bother to find the section of the store you're looking ..." Beware the Bookseller

AdvantagesPlease see text

DisadvantagesPlease see text

"I should probably start by explaining my relationship with Waterstones… It started when I was about 10. When my mum left the family home, my ickle brother and I spent weekends with her, and quite often we’d end up at Waterstones on a rainy Sunday afternoon, we could hang out there, looking at the books and reading. Jump to 15, and work experience. Although my friends from school had been busy arranging enviable two-week placements ..." Read review

Brilliant for books.

AdvantagesLots of books.

Disadvantageslarge shops - you can get lost!

"Being an avid reader with some unusual tastes, I have spent a long time trawling through bookshops in search of something interesting. Waterstones are, based on my experiences, the most interesting source of books to be found on the high street. Enter a Waterstones anywhere and you can expect to be faced with a table of new releass, best sellers and big names. the front of the shop will be filled with the bovious, but if you venture a little deeper ..." Read on and on and on

AdvantagesLoads of books, friendly professional staff and classy

DisadvantagesBooks are usually full price and I don't care!

"There is a Waterstone's in Birmingham, West Midlands... (drooling already)... it is crammed with books on several levels... (even more drooling)... it is a marvellous place to (too late - glazed over now)... As my better half will tell you, I am a book addict. Fortunately she does like Waterstone's as well so that isn't so bad. We can get lost in there for hours! Ok - so a book shop is a book shop right? Well yes in theory, in practice Waterstone's ..." latte, leather and literature

Advantagesin the op

Disadvantagesditto

"Imagine the scenario...there I am, curled up on a large leather sofa, new book in one hand, cup of coffee in the other, the very image of a contented bookworm at home. However, bizzarely enough, I am not at home, I am in what is perhaps the only nice shop in Bradford city centre. Waterstones is like a cross between a bookshop, a library, a cafe and a living room, with the benefits of all and almost none of the drawbacks. Unlike a public library, ..." Read review

A Great Bookshop

AdvantagesWide Range, Nice Stores

DisadvantagesOften more expensive than buying elsewhere

"Waterstone's is probably my favourite book shop to go into if I want to browse a wide range of products, every store I have visited seems to stock a good range of the books I am interested in, with larger stores stocking a number of books that would have taken a few weeks to deliver had I ordered them online. --Store-- While the smaller-medium stores don't often have a lot of extra areas and just concentrate on selling books they still seem ..." It is indeed a classy place to shop

Advantagesgreat atmosphere, literary events, helpful staff, good access, free ordering

Disadvantagesnot often have my course books in when i need them immediately

"I have to say that out of all the bookshops in Sheffield, Waterstones is indeed the nicest shop you can visit. If just for the atmosphere! You step in, and the place is warm. There are tables of books on offer which are alluring to any standard bookworm, and irresistable to those who devour books. It is easily accessible for people with wheelchairs and pushchairs, bags etc., with a lift you can use to get to the upper floor if you cannot do stairs. ..." Read review

Books, cards, the list goes on.

"With Plymouth having two Waterstones, I would just like to write a little bit about the one I visited yesterday. I regularly visit both, not always to purchase items but to have a look at what is on offer in them. For those of you who are not familiar with Waterstones, it is a shop that sells primarily books. But by that, I mean that it also sells varsious other items such as diaries; calendards; cards, and so on. You can get a wide range of books ..." Read review

A Peaceful Home Of Books

Advantages-

Disadvantages-

"There is nothing I love better than to have a look around Waterstone's at the new books and to then go home and just read. It is such a calm thing to do and you can be in the middle of some mystery or adventure world whilemhaving your nose buried into a book. My favourite category is chick lit as it is called which sounds horrible but also I love crime and horror and thriller. I pretty much read anything I also like classics like Jane Eyre and Gone ..." Waterstones is the best. UPDATED

AdvantagesCool, Fun, Modern, Nice Staff

DisadvantagesMainly in Large Towns Only

"~~THE COMPANY~~ I am writing an opinion on Waterstones, the book store owned by HMV Media. The company has about 200 shops nationwide, mainly found in large cities only. ~~WHAT THEY SELL AND SERVICES~~ Well the obvious is books. Waterstones sell every kind of book imagineable, and if they have not got it, they order it for your or refer you to another shop in the area. Also, Waterstones sell gift vouchers for HMV and the Waterstones itself. Another ..." Read review

Stone the Crows

AdvantagesIf it's not in stock they will order

DisadvantagesNone of note

"Taking a trip to a bookshop is not the liveliest of activities. In this world of Video and Video games, of internet and mobile phones, youths are being brought up in fast society were the attention span is slowly shrinking whilst my belly is slowly expanding (but that’s another story). How do bookseller make books more appealing? Let us muse over that for a moment – in the meantime… In the first of a short series, I would like ..." Read review

love it or ...

AdvantagesHigh street presence

DisadvantagesHard to find non-best selling titles

"Reading (everything from children's comic, fiction/non-fiction to marketing leaflets...If a piece of paper had words on it, I'd read it.) has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. One thing I've looked for when I first came into this country is a bookshop. Found my first Waterstone in Bristol city centre and it was love at first sight. It was nothing like what we had in my home country. I started using it as often as I could. I ..." Read review

Loadsa books

AdvantagesHuge range

DisadvantagesPrice

"I visited Waterstones many times last year, on the hunt for those books that university lecturers always recommend but know full well you're not really going to need. Unfortunately for me and my wallet, they had a good selection of what I needed. What they didn't have, they happily ordered. It generally took anything up to about 3 weeks for my books to arrive. Waterstones is one of the classiest book shops I know. Everything is perfect, even ..." Read review
