The black and white ones were obviously originally done in pencil, as you have clear precise lines and shading.
This in no way detracts from the book in the least. The family have realistic features without the Disney falseness ...

On the way to find the bear though they have many obstacles to conquer. The first one is long wavy grass. On the next page they are shown going through it and as they do the noise it makes is shown as Swishy swashy. Each obstacle has it's own noise and as we go through the book we find splashing rivers, squelchy mud and howling snowstorms. The family ... ...get to a narrow gloomy cave.

Turning the page we find out. It's the bear they were looking for. What follows is a mad panic to retrace their steps through the cave, through the snowstorm, through the forest, through the mud, through the river and through the grass. The bear is still following though and they get into their house and finally shut the door just in the nick of time. As the family all climb into ...

As all parents know kids are strange infuriating creatures especially between the ages of 2-5. One way in which this strangeness manifests itself is in their fixation with particular items that will send parents slowly but surely insane. Sometimes as was the case with my oldest son, it can be an old moth eaten red T-shirt that they have to sleep with every night, God forbid that we ever mislaid it! Something else that lend themselves to particular ... ...NIGHT: Dad:" What would you like me to read you dear?" The little dear: "Mr Silly!"

I’m absolutely shattered – I’ve yomped through a vast grassy meadow, waded through a wide, fast-flowing river, squelched my way through a massive swathe of mud, fought my way through a dark, tangly forest and battled through a heavy snow storm. FIVE TIMES.

What is the most exciting thing you’ve done in a bathtub? I can think of a few but I’ll keep them to myself for the moment, but tonight I went on a bear hunt, in fact I’ve hunted bears on the beach, in the car, on trains but mostly its in bed or in the bath.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is a gorgeous little book, the first time we encountered it was at the local library, the librarian was reading it aloud to a group of kids ... ...the group had finished it.
The story, by Michael Rosen, is wonderfully simple and very easy to learn and the pictures by Helen Oxenbury are enchanting she manages to catch the essence of being a kid. The kids in the book don’t walk they skip and swing and ride on their Dads shoulders. They swing sticks absent mindedly at grass, they trip up and they throw stones at tin cans in fact they look like every kid you ever saw simply enjoying being ...

Advantages: nice story Disadvantages: black and white pages
This book was a firm favourite of my wife’s when she was a little girl, and so we nostalgically bought it for our two year old. I’d never seen it before, and I have to say I’m not sure what all the fuss is about.
The story tells about a family that go on a walk, which they call a bear hunt. They walk through a variety of tough weather conditions, before finding a bear which chases them home.
The book uses repetitive language to help children learn ... ...my two year old can recite it after only a few reads, which is nice.
The best thing about the book is the illustrations, which are watercolour paintings or ink drawings painted in watercolour. They are sketch-like, and add an old school feel to the book. Sadly, every alternate page is black and white, which I just don’t understand: when one of the big things about the book is the colour, why scrimp?
The story is best read with dramatic action and ...

We're going on a Bear Hunt is a delightful storybook that is published by Walker Books. They have some of the best stories for children in their range. It is written by a well known children's author called Michael Rosen (he also writes good poetry for children).

...on a bear hunt - we're going to find a big one!" This is fantastic for kids as they pick up the repetitive style and can pre-empt the lines chanting them with you. Wonderful sound effects are written for parents to embelish as they travel along on their journey.
My son's favourite bit is when they actually find the bear and are chased all the way back through all the obstacles they had already passed through. He makes all the sound effects back ... ...it back to the house safely only to realise they have left the front door open before rushing back upstairs to hide under the covers in bed.
The illustrations are also well worth mentioning. Sketched alternatively between black and white and colour, the pictures go a long way to adding to the beauty of this story. They are simply and delicate drawings which pull you in to the magic of the story.
Both author and illustrator have struck a perfect ...

This book is a timeless classic that I, myself, enjoyed as a child and am now sharing that experience with my daughter.
