Advantages Advantages Clear and easy to read, good for internet novices, lack of advertising

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the most stimulating of reads, probably not for internet experts, personally I find celebrity sections boring

I had read reviews about Web User on Ciao and other websites in the past and thought it sounded like it might be worth a look. On one particular day when I had to get a train out of London I decided to buy a copy because I did not want to read heavy subject matter and also just wanted a change. I don?t normally read a great deal of computer/internet magazines, but I thought I might learn something useful and find out about interesting new websites and gadgets from reading Web User. Web User is quite a slim magazine as it contains relatively little in the way of pages devoted to advertising. I ... more

Web User is one of the most useful magazines I have read. It is full of hints tips and general advice on internet usage, web sits and a wide rang of software that are are all talked about. What the Haynes car manual is for the amateur car tinkerer Web user is for the web tinkerer. What is inside the magazine? When you open the cover there is an editorial explaining what is in this weeks magazine. Underneath this is a contents list starting with this weeks features. The features section is packed with invaluable information. An example from issue 244. (Cover feature ) Best new free software, 35 ... more

With so many different computer magazines on the shelf it is quite easy to mistake one for another if you are in a hurry and a week ago I was in a hurry and picked up Webuser when I intended to get my hands on ComputerActive. Both have a red background masthead with the magazine name partly in black and I discovered my mistake at the supermarket checkout. But somewhere in the darkened recesses of my aging brain cell a thought came forward that this was the magazine that I had read a review about and had intended to buy one issue for a look see. After all at just 99p (trial price) the cost was ... more

For anyone using the net this will be a very helpful and interesting read. Very simply written, no complicated computer language so it’s easy to understand, so much so that my Mum could even understand it. The magazine is designed into very simple categories all which are useful. For example, the ‘Workshop’ section contains pages on how to build a web page, it explores ISP’s, even explains what ‘History’ means and helps you organise your favourites and other folders and generally get the most out of your computer. I did find the page on uploading and ... more

Advantages Advantages Clear, cheap and full of useful information

Disadvantages Disadvantages May be too simple for some

When I saw this magazine I thought goody another magazine to try. I was attracted to it because of its boast of being a no nonsense guide to the net and that is just what it is. At 99p per fortnight the price is great too. The magazine is recommended by the Plain English Campaign and I think it will appeal especially to the oldies among us who have just discovered computers in our old age and need things explained easily and clearly. It has its own website which has added extras and also gives 1000 favourite websites, product reviews and news. It can be found on www.web-user.co.uk but I ... more

Advantages Advantages Plain english explanations, good for the novice

Disadvantages Disadvantages After a few issues, you might outgrow it

I NEVER buy Internet magazines, I always think - anything you need to know is available on the net itself, so why pay? But I was lured by the 99p price tag (a TRIAL price that seems to have been set for the past four issues) and picked up issue 6 (then 7, then 8!) of Web User. Its actually very good, I have only been online for a few months and there are still a few gaps in my cyber wisdom, and I learned a LOT of useful tips in this mag. If you are a novice/competant but unsure PC and Internet user, then this mag caters well to you without patronising or overcomplicating issues. Its very well ... more

I must admit, I am not a computer whiz or geek and just looking at the majority of computer magazines on offer makes me quake in my boots. They look thick, they have got spines! They are full of jargon and they don’t make much sense. After some years of learning computing, a bit through courses and most with self-teaching, I think I know a bit about what I am doing when I sit at my keyboard, but these magazines still scare me… I still wake in the small hours and think, ‘What does it all mean, what’s it all about Alfie?’ My wife usually replies, ‘Who the heck ... more

Web user is a new magazine, and as the name might suggest it deals with Internet issues. The first few issues were on sale at just 99 pence, though the normal price will be £1.20. The magazine is glossy, clear and informative. In the second issue (also 99p) the magazine covered such things as: how to get on the net for £80 (bush TV). Shopping sites out to the test (excellent article). How to make: your email faster and smarter, and heaps more. Plus in addition it also had absolutely loads of excellent web addresses. A good letters page, a help page, plus advice and tips on how to build your ... more

With an array of internet-based magazine publications on the market it is hard to single out one in particular. Each person has his or her own preferences. My personal preference is the fortnightly issues of Web User, which claims to be the ‘UK’s best-selling internet magazine’ with 67,250 readers (ABC statistics for Jan-Dec 2002). So, for me what is it that makes Web User the best of the lot? Web User offers practical and concise advice, features and reviews. It has received recognition from the ‘Plain English Campaign’. At a competitive price of just 99p Web User features links to over 170 ... more

I have been buying Webuser ever since the very first issue and on the whole it is a very good Internet magazine. There are quite a few computer/Internet magazines around and some are pretty costly. I used to buy a particular one most months as there was a free CD-rom attached but this pushed the p[rice up by a couple of pounds. Webuser doesn't give away free CD-roms and therefore they can sell it at a very reasonable 99p every fortnight. Every week, there are the normal workshops found in these kind of magazines but sometimes they are too basic for the average user. I should imagine that the ... more
