West of the Wall by Marcia Preston. A good read.

AdvantagesGood story set in an interesting period of time.

DisadvantagesSlightly unbelievable at times.

"...and so she returns to West Berlin with her hopes shattered. It is interesting to see through Trudy's eyes the relative affluence and material wealth of America in the 1960's compared to the conditions at that time in both East and West Berlin. A thriller with a human angle

AdvantagesGreat subject; a well-told story; detail of historical accuracy

DisadvantagesA few flaws in the story but nothing major

I have always been fascinated by Eastern Europe and this novel is set in Berlin, just after the Wall divides the East and West. I spent three weeks in East Berlin in 1989, just a few months before the Wall came down, so I was looking forward to immersing myself in the 1960s and to get a feeling of life then in this ..."
