    Advantages Advantages Works for me

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

Resolutions A resolution is an interesting concept. Challenge yourself to develop the willpower to maintain a commitment. Until a few years ago I may have whimsically put forward two or three aspects in my life that I would like to change - attempted to stick at it for a couple of days and then leave it until the next new year arrived in order to try again. Basically I took it with a pinch of salt and lacked motivation or willpower. Something changed and now resolutions that are made anytime are maintained successfully... Changes I discovered Kundalini Yoga when my health was challenged by ... more

Advantages Advantages It's something to aim for

Disadvantages Disadvantages I won't be happy if I don't manage it!

I don’t normally write Ciao Café reviews, but I thought I would make a change this time in the hope that publicising my resolutions will help me to stick to them! I always make some sort of New Year resolution. I find that having a goal to work towards really helps me and makes me feel as though I have achieved something. Not for me the usual losing weight/quit smoking/do more exercise resolution (I’ve never smoked anyway, I exercise regularly, and losing weight is an ongoing battle which I cannot seem to win) – I have something a bit different in mind! ***Visit every London Underground ... more

Advantages Advantages on the way to a healthier happier me - I hope!

Disadvantages Disadvantages it's definitely not going to be easy . . .

I don't often participate in ciao cafe reviews these days but this one caught my eye as I had just written a blog about it yesterday. Normally, I don't make resolutions but this year I decided I NEEDED to. Except, to try and make it less like a resolution and, therefore, hopefully easier to stick to, I'm calling it a "goal". I've been quite worried about my health over this past year as i was getting lots of random pains in my side and the two doctors I visited (which shows I must have been worried because I NEVER go to the doctors!) couldn't find anything wrong with me - one of them even ... more

Advantages Advantages save energy, save climate, a good new year resolution to make

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The earth completed one more revolution around the sun and so did we. It is very hard to comprehend and accept the significance of the moment as we leave one year behind and step into a new year. Similarly, nothing special happened as I entered 2012 watching the live television broadcast of the firework concert at the Edinburgh Castle on the 31st night. When I woke up in the first morning of 2012, nothing had changed dramatically but still I was happy, happy to greet my friends, family, relatives and loved ones; happy to welcome new season; happy to see new horizons; happy to learn something ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to set resolutions.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not so easy to keep them!

New Year Resolutions 2012Well, this is my first foray into the Ciao Café for over three years, so that is one resolution completed already! I always find making resolutions difficult because they are so hard to keep. I try to find something challenging rather than go for easy options … like not eating sprouts.Anyway, I have thought of a few for this year that I will try to keep. In my opinion it is no use setting a lot; it just makes the task less achievable.1. Weight . An obvious choice, I know, is to try and lose weight. Last year I manage to lose about 2lb – a success, but hardly world ... more

Advantages Advantages Things can only get better.

Disadvantages Disadvantages I may not reach the stars, but the moon would be ok.

I love the start of any new month as it is so full of promise of things to come. None more so than the first of January as I have a whole year to go at it and keep trying out new things. Like most people, I would love to be a bit trimmer, and a bit fitter, more organised, and just generally me but a whole lot better. For this, I think you have to look at yourself as a whole, and not just the individual aspect you want to change. I set myself a challenge in 2011 of paying £10,000 off my mortgage balance. I managed to hit £7000, which was pretty good going, but because I was so focussed on this ... more

Advantages Advantages Choosing to be happy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Taking the risk

I tend to make my resolutions at the solstice rather than at midnight on 31st December / zero hour on 1st January, but that's almost beside the point. The point is that the year turns and we decide to give ourselves a break, to wipe the slate clean of our last year's failures and to start again. Like most people I'm not the most brilliant at keeping my New Year's resolutions. Does that mean that there is no point to making them? Of course not. Why shouldn't we, at least once a year, take stock and decide that this time we WILL do it? It has to be better than just giving up altogether on our ... more

Advantages Advantages It will make things so much more enjoyable

Disadvantages Disadvantages There's always a chance I might loose track

Just looking back on the most unusual new years resolution debate review I wrote I have realised I'm actually quite boring to not make any resolutions in my 23 years that have been different from the norm. It's actually inspired me to try and do something I wouldn't normally do and make an 'unusual' resolution however whether they will be different to the norm they will be different for me. Firstly, I have made the most common one yet again of weight loss but I'm going about it a different way. Many Christmas-times ago I obtained a fabulous 500 soup recipes cook book and this year I intend to ... more

Advantages Advantages Will make me feel much better

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fairly selfish

No More Mrs Nice Girl Slightly controversial but I am sick to my back teeth of being nice to people and a) Never getting a thank you, and b) Nobody ever being nice in return. If I step to one side to let you through; let you out of a busy junction whilst driving; let you take the last can of beans on the supermarket shelf: SAY THANK YOU. Two little words which cost you nothing but mean a lot. I am not going to be nice to anyone this year that I don’t know. I am going to barge through tight spaces and have an “I’m alright Jack” attitude on the road. Sorry Peeps, but you have had your chance and ... more

Advantages Advantages Feel great if you stick to them, Great benefits.

Disadvantages Disadvantages May not stick to them, Not always easy to stick to.

~ * ~ NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS ~ * ~ Everyone tends to make New Year’s resolutions but how many people actually manage to stick to them? Some only manage to stick with them for a month, or maybe longer until half-way through the year, some people stick to them all year and feel great for achieving their goals. I'm one of these who make's more than one New Year’s resolutions and I desperately try to stick to them as much as I can. Compared to other years, my resolutions have only changed slightly. Most resolutions consist of loosing weight, stop smoking, and get fitter, save more money or to cut ... more
