A Long Walk yet...

AdvantagesWe are making progress

Disadvantages...far too slowly

"...over time. But perhaps that isn’t what you mean by racism? Prejudice. Yes, I have to put my hand up there too. When I look at someone I don’t know, before the logical brain kicks in, I do make assumptions on the basis of their appearance: be it the colour of their skin, their hairstyle, the clothes they choose to wear ~ or more usually upon a combination of all these and more. I infer their origins, their politics, their taste in music, ..." Read review

Educate, Educate or Educate?

AdvantagesA better future

DisadvantagesA lot of soul searching

"...about me you will know what our street was like. You can imagine the scenario. The neighbours were aghast! Well then. What did the neighbours say? Nothing, they ignored the family. I was five and eager, a new friend and just as luck would have it they had a five year old as well. ‘Violet’ (name changed) needed a friend. So from day one a beautiful friendship developed. The Pub The pub opposite our houses had a saloon and a public bar, from ..." Read review

Inspiration?

AdvantagesRacism should stop

Disadvantagesit will take a long time to achieve

"...But if you think about what the doctor had said- it should never have happened. She assumed so much and not in a positive way- my Dad wasnt too happy when he arrived at the hospital neither to learn of such a comment! Apart from the odd comments which didnt mean much, a particular occassion that sticks out was when our next door neighbour (shortly after we moved in), commented on my parent's different colour and asked me, what did that make me. ..." Not Everything is Black & White

AdvantagesMaybe one day we can stamp out Racism

DisadvantagesProbably not

"...description of the perpetrator. What description? Young, tall and black? I am very pleased that this young man has decided to take legal action against the police force who have so far confiscated his mobile phone and motorcycle, even though he had proof of ownership 'in case they were forged'. My flatmate is Asian and on a number of occassions I have witnessed racism against her. On one particular ocassion she ignored a man who was coming onto ..." Read review

Im not racist but we all are - arent we?

AdvantagesWe can have our say

DisadvantagesThe race weapon

"...and ugly ones come close. What was irriating about Sergent s demise was he was selected for the show for exactly the reason they kicked him off! The decision to fire Ron Atkinson was also correct, the guy pulling out the 'N' word at work a very stupid thing to do. If he was getting robbed in London for his jewellry or something then people may have let him off but to do it on live TV around fellow white commentators to some how score points amongst ..." When will we ever Learn?

AdvantagesWe must work together.

DisadvantagesHatred & Bigotry.

"World events have been in the news and on our television screens for several years now, since 9/11 onwards the various events, Afghanistan, the Iraq war, the continuing unrest in so many countries have both touched and appalled many of us. In the news this week we have seen the trial of soldiers acting under orders to torment and torture the victims of the “Ali Baba” fiasco. Will there ever be an end of man’s inhumanity to other races and religions? ..." Read review

Darcus Howe: "Who You Calling Nigger?"

AdvantagesA superb piece of journalism

DisadvantagesIt brought the horrifying truth out!!

"...he made them think about what they were saying. He has never, from my experience, seemed to shy away from the difficult questions. Reading the bio on this programme I thought it would follow on from his existing trend. It did... in a frightening way. The programme set about looking at racial tensions not between the white majority and the ethnic minorities, but rather the tensions between the ethnic minorities themselves. What it did do was highlight ..." Read review

Flying at the flag of obscurity

AdvantagesTollerance is the order of the day - Brits has loads of it

DisadvantagesDisarm your evil tongues, that includes you Du Beke

"...one, I promptly then forget what I was going to write. Lost for the world to see, due to the fact it probably be posted on the Dooyoo community for intellectual scrutiny, or not. Depending on the mood of those wanting to throw in their two pennies worth; of course there is a pattern. Racism, is one of those subjects that gleams at me like a florescent carrot, nice and crunchy, screaming for a donkey like me to take a bite. I've walked the beaches ..." Read review

Why Do We Bang On About Race?

AdvantagesYou decide

DisadvantagesYou decide

"What is the best way to combat racism? By doing nothing! I'm a racist, and furthermore so are you. Quite an intense opening statement do you not think? But I think I need to clarify my statement in order for you to agree or disagree with. Let me for a moment discuss myself, on meeting me most would concur I am a traditional while British man who is possibly a bit posh. My parents would have been considered the same I guess; but step ..." Read review

Ways to Win the War on Racism Review with images

AdvantagesFighting racism makes for a peaceful world

DisadvantagesNone that I know of

"...I do not care what 'color' you are or what background you come from, when I hear someone using that term I hear it as a totally racist term . And, the person saying that word and declaring it a 'non-racist' term or 'harmless' term is wrong. That's like seeing an elephant and calling that elephant a flea or a mouse. Just because you say it's a mouse does not make the elephant a mouse. Same way, just because someone says, "I don't mean that in a ..." Read review

I Consider You My Equal, But My Gov't Does Not

Advantages None... No quotas, preferences, set-asides, etc., based on race, religion, color or gender.

Disadvantages ...and handicaps should be considered on a case-by-case; not a race-by-race basis.

"...to adulthood is to appreciate what it's like to sail through a torrential downpour of adversity without feeling spiritually waterlogged by a resultant experience of pity or pathos. I attribute this to Robert's distinctly "non-victim" mentality. Though each one of his list's proclamations provoked my thought in one way or another, there were two whose "Scarlett O’Hara, I'll never be poor again!" fiery indignation and prescient insights inspired me ..." IT REALLY IS BLACK AND WHITE

AdvantagesEqaulity for all

DisadvantagesGovernment

"...way. I’m not sure whether what I feel would be called racism so let me explain… Before I go any further I would like to point out that I have no time for anyone who is violent toward anyone for any reason – whether the colour for their skin, their bed time habits, or because they look different etc. I have been a victim of discrimination even though only mild but a ‘coloured’ taxi driver in London – who completely snubbed me due to my wheelchair, ..." What If We were All Born Blind

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesEverything

"...I am always concerned with what others think about what I write. I posted on dooyoo previously and have edited the op somewhat for ciao, here goes..... I always remember asking my mum when I was a small child what she would do if I married a black man. It sounds rather silly now but people used to joke about running off with a black man. Where’s mum? She’s run off with a black man! Of course my mum is a wonderful person and she simply said, ‘as ..." Read review

It's 2005 - No need to say more?

AdvantagesWorld Peace

DisadvantagesYou know already

"...change our society or control what people do and don't think. Education I think is the answer. We have already made great progress. I am sure if you look back a couple of generations in your own families you will see that todays children are much more accepting and open minded. This wasn't because our grandparents were bad people but that they didn't live in such a multi-cultural society and probably didn't travel so much. Hatred is bred from ignorance. Children ..." What's in a name

AdvantagesYou jest

DisadvantagesIntolerance,violence,ignorance and so on.....

"...a human being no matter what they look like on the outside, no matter who, or what they worship. It shouldn’t matter a jot from where in the world they originated from. The only cure for racism is education and integration. There are some schools in the country that are almost entirely populated by black kids and vice-versa, this is almost a form of segregation, the very thing that Martin Luther King and his ilk fought against decades ago. ..."
