This review is for What’s on TV magazine. History What’s On TV is a weekly television magazine giving people a glimpse into what is happening on the major channels that week and gives people a brief insight into the show as well. The magazine was founded in 1991 and published by IPC Media. Before this time most people had to purchase Radio Times for BBC listings and TV times for the other channels and then the monopoly rules changed. Each week they sell over 1.3 million copies and they continue to go strong. The Front Few Pages Each week a new front page with various sort of shows featured is ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, great on soaps, easy to follow listings.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not so great on sport, movies or Sky.

"What’s On T.V." has been my preferred TV listings mag for years. I still remember when you didn’t have a selection to choose from and Radio Times had the monopoly on TV. Nowadays we have a huge selection of television magazines to choose from, each aiming at a different market. I don’t think we really watch too much television in our house; we tend to watch more soaps then anything else. This is why "What’s On T.V." suits us down to the ground! It has a great soaps section that gives you sneaky-peaks at upcoming story lines and enough of a taste of what is to come without actually spoiling ... more

That’s another storyline revealed! Great Soap – Great Puzzles – Great Value This is how ‘What’s on TV’ magazine sells itself. I’m a regular reader of ‘Inside Soap’ and each fortnight that magazine makes it’s way around my family, spilling out the storylines that will hit our screens in the next two weeks. I expect the men reading this (and some women) will think to themselves ‘Why then did the silly cow go and by another book that says the same things’ – Boredom is the answer! Whilst browsing the shelves at the ... more

As the name would suggest, What’s On TV is a magazine guide to TV scheduling for the week. At just 42p, and with around 80 pages, it is one of the best value for money weekly guides around. Boasting on the front cover of being Britain’s best-selling magazine, I cannot verify this, but can well imagine it to be true. The front cover usually features characters involved in a current or forthcoming major storyline of a popular soap. You’ll also see a few other familiar TV faces, and from this, you’ll get an idea of some of the magazine’s features for the week. Inside ... more

Okay, I admit it, last week was a tight one, financially. Having only £60 per week to spend on supermarket shopping for two adults, four kids and six pets is usually pretty tight, but with a birthday, Easter and a Dr.Who convention to finance last week, we really had to cut down. So instead of our preferred TV guide – the Radio Times or TV Times – depending on who’s on the cover, more often than not – we decided to save some money and go cheap. We purchased What’s On TV for only 42p. So do we regret it? Well, not really, it did save us some pennies and it IS a TV ... more

A few months ago I was an avid soap watcher so religiously every Tuesday I would go out and buy my copy of What’s On TV for the following week just so I could read up on the soap but in recent months I have stopped watching the soaps as they have gone very stupid and depressing. I still do buy my TV book just to keep a little following of what is going on and why is being murdered this week but I have actually stared using the guide to find out what is on the TV which I never did before. It may seem like a waste of money to some as I do have a good TV planner and guide on my Sky TV but never ... more

Want to know what is going to be on television next week? Then try What’s On TV – a weekly magazine that provides all you need to know about the programmes for the week ahead. Available to buy every Tuesday for the week from the following Saturday, What’s On TV costs only 45pence, making it one of the cheaper TV magazines. I have just purchased the issue for programmes from 6-12 October 2001 and the issue I have is relevant to the Anglia TV region (regional variations are available). The front cover usually depicts a major soap opera storyline for the coming week and this ... more
