The first question anyone ever asks me when I tell them about it is "how much internet will it use?"     WhatsApp is a messager service, kind of an alternative to sms, but free. It is available to all Android, iPhone and Blackberry phone users. You download the app onto your phone from the app store associated to the phone. I believe the app is free to download for android and blackberry users, but for iPhone users it costs a one off 59p. This however, is nothing when you think about the money you will be saving by using this instead of sms.     When I first met my partner I was using this application absolutely 24/7. I had an iPhone and he has a blackberry so it was the cheapest way for us to communicate in those early days when you wanna talk to each other constantly via messaging.     I have a number of useful of applications on my smartphone, but one app that I was made aware of recently by a friend was an app called WhatsApp. This has proven to be a very useful app on my smart phone. WhatsApp is a messaging app which works across different platforms (iPhone, BlackBerry, Android) and enables you to share messages quickly and effortlessly.     Advantages Advantages Great value for money, easy to use, allows you to send pictures and videos too.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unless friends have Iphones, most don't use WhatsApp

    I think that the WhatsApp application is brilliant, great value for money at only 59p and allows you to send pictures and videos as well as regular text. So 59p is nothing when you think of how much you are saving on the usual SMS and MMS costs. It is easy to use and from my own experience, fast and efficient too. The only problem I found was that, though it works with friends on Blackberrys as well...they need to download the whatsapp application too. I found that most people on Blackberrys prefer to just use BBM (blackberry messenger) instead. But it is definitely great for using with ... more

    This is a great app for free media messaging, I use it all the time for sending pictures and videos. For video calling I use Viber, but this is great as an instant messenger and MMS alternative. The notifications are reliable, and the interface is clear and mimics the iPhone contacts list, as well as a similar message window. Has most of the functionality of the iPhone text app. One thing that is missing is the ability to view emoticons, but this is a small price to pay for an app that has saved me a lot of money over the last few months.     I've had whatsapp messenger on my blackberry for a year now. A friend of mine recommended me to get this application as she told me it was brilliant!What shall I say about whatsapp messenger? Well, its fast, free, great! You can send pictures, videos, voicenotes, locations etc. The way you upload the pictures is if your pictures are already in your phone device.     WhatsApp is a messaging platform NOT just for iPhone, but for Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile as well. In fact, this is one of the brilliant things about this app - being able to be installed on so many phones makes it even more useful for communicating with friends. :) The fee for purchasing it is actually unimportant when you think of all the money you will save not needing to send SMSes.
