HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR DO YOU TRAVEL? Not nearly enough. Between full-time work, and a nearly-new mortgage, and the vagaries of bank-managers and stay-at-home boyfriends there are always compromises to be made. What is travel? How far do I have to go from my front door for it to count as travelling, does the purpose of the journey have a bearing, or the duration of the trip? Is a half-hour rail ride to the coast ‘travelling’ if I simply sit on the beach when I get there? Have I travelled if I spent 15 minutes on a bus but then walked 20 miles down previously unknown pathways? What ... more

Advantages Advantages Far, far too many to mention

Disadvantages Disadvantages So many places, so little time.....

This is a subject very near and dear to my heart, and when I saw this challenge I couldn't resist. Thanks to Malu for inventing this one. By way of background for those who don't know me, I'm an Australian who's been living in London the last 3 years. We plan on staying another 2-3 years or so, before heading back home. The aim of the game is to save as much as we can and travel as much as we can - I realise that sounds like a contradiction in terms, but we live and travel very cheap! We can go away for a weekend for less than £100 for the two of us, and it's our only real "treat" - we don't ... more

Advantages Advantages A huge world to explore

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough time off work, not enough money

HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR DO YOU TRAVEL? What are we counting as travel here? Does a weekend in the UK count or are we talking foreign travel of at least a week? To me, it's all travel. From the moment I leave the house till the second I unlock the front door it's traveling. I love the whole experience even getting to the airport or station, checking in to my hotel and seeing if there are any complimentary bathroom goodies to swipe. Last year was a busy one - two trips to Slovenia, a week in Naples, a weekend in London, one in Belfast, three days in Nashville and three weeks in Cuba. The Nashville ... more

    Advantages Advantages So Many Places,..

    Disadvantages Disadvantages So Little Time

HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR DO YOU TRAVEL? I would say on average 2-3 times a year, as a "holiday". I have always done a lot of short UK breaks and stuff and it would be impossible to count those. I find work is terribly inconvenient, it gets in the way of travel. For a long time though, I travelled overseas on business, which has its good and bad points. the good points being that it is possible to see some parts of the world at someone else's expense, but the bad points being that there is often no place like home! DO YOU STAY IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY OR GO ABROAD? Both really. We would have gone ... more

Q: How many times a year do you travel? A: There are no hard and fast amounts, but if 2003 was anything to go by, quite a lot really. We kicked off with New Year in New York, February half-term (Ruth’s a teacher) in Bilbao and San Sebastian, Easter in Morocco, June Half Term in North Norfolk, and our main summer holiday was in The Algarve, Autumn half term was spent in Dorset and Christmas in The Lake District. In between, I took advantage of out of school-holiday air fares to visit a friend of ours in Ottawa for a week, and we had a couple of Eurostar trips to Lille, one of which was for my ... more

Advantages Advantages my favourite subject, travel!

Disadvantages Disadvantages none - so why am I still here?!

Well as soon as I saw this latest challenge, the Mack had to do it! Anyone that knows me will know I love leaving Blighty and going to pastures new. So here goes with the questions! Q: How many times a year do you travel? Oh dear! Well a few. This year I’ve been abroad five times! But that’s a personal best. It’s usually two or three. Q: For how long do you go away? When I visit my best friend in Australia it has to be 3 weeks. This is always the longest trip I take though. For the USA it’s usually 2 weeks but I have been to Miami for four days before (never again!). I suffer really badly from ... more

Advantages Advantages KEEPS ME GOING THINKING ABOUT WARMER DAYS

Disadvantages Disadvantages NOT ENOUGH TIME AND MONEY TO SEE EVERYWHERE

oh I'm excited, this is my favourite pastime, travelling. don't get me wrong, I haven't travelled the world or gone back packing or even gone somewhere non touristy, but I have been abroad quite a lot of times and get depressed if I can't afford to. When I'm at work even though I work in the holiday industry, I picture myself somewhere warm and sunny, and it keeps me going when I'm feeling sad. I work for Blakes Boating in the uk, and it gives me great pleasure to book those boating holidays for the people who might have saved up all year for their special holiday. Thanks for bringing this ... more

Advantages Advantages “I’m out here a thousand miles from my home….

Disadvantages Disadvantages “….walking a road other men have gone down.”

Yet another challenge from MALU, but travel like literature is dear to my heart, so why should I grumble? Perhaps because it’s also dear – my wife and I spend more on travel than on food or housing or entertainment or even drink – but that’s just a function of the way we go about it. We could certainly travel much more cheaply than we do, and in our impecunious youth made a virtue of doing so. Now we have more time and money, and there is nothing that we would rather spend it on. There is an ongoing debate in our family about the distinction between travel and tourism. My elder son, who has ... more

    Advantages Advantages I love travelling

Disadvantages Disadvantages It doesn't come cheap!

Q: How many times a year do you travel? A: It depends what you mean by travel! I try to have at least 2 holidays abroad each year, plus a few weekends away and short breaks in the UK. As I still live at home and so does my other half, we are enjoying ourselves while we can and going away on as many trips as possible! As an example, this year I went skiing in February, had a four night break in various UK locations in July and spent two weeks in the US in September. I also had a mini-break at Center Parcs for a hen weekend, another hen weekend in Bath, a night at a country-house hotel for my ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages See op

Just seen this review with someone and thought I would give it a go ! Leave me a message in my GB and I will rate your op if you choose to complete it ;-) Q: How many times a year do you travel? Not as often as I would like. I would say about 4 or 5 times a year. When you say "travel" I assume you mean overseas as I do not count moving in the same country as travelling despite the fact I may drive miles. Q: For how long do you go away? Typically about a week, but I do long to have more time away, the last time I took 2 weeks off work was about 5 years ago when I was in Spain for a fortnight. I ... more
