4 Stars A BIG DOSE OF RETAIL THERAPY UNDER ONE ROOF Review with images 29/05/2012
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages A good variety of goods under one roof, reasonably priced

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not of the very best quality but worth the price paid generally

A BIG DOSE OF RETAIL THERAPY UNDER ONE ROOF W is for WILKINSON and WOOLWORTHS I miss Woolworths! I, like many of my generation, grew up with many trips to Woolworths. I wouldn't say it was the perfect store but I have handed over many pounds in the now demised store over the years as both a child and as a parent. When my children were young Woolworths was the ideal place to purchase pocket money toys, pick and mix sweets, presents for friends' birthday parties and a last minute gift for anyone of any age, really. I also made some large purchases here in the way of outdoor toys. The reason I'm ... more

Advantages Advantages A lot of useful items under one roof.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing major.

Our local Wilkinson's store is relatively small but they have managed to cram an enormous amount of `kit` into such a small space. I must admit that a few weeks ago I got a little bit frustrated because the powers that be had obviously decided that the store layout had to be changed and that threw me, before the changes had been implemented I knew exactly where to go for the goods that I was searching for but the new layout meant that I had to trawl the aisles and hunt for my purchases. Of course the hierarchy think that they are being clever when they make their shopper hunt the store but any ... more

    Advantages Advantages Bargains galore!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unpleasant shopping experience

As anyone who has read my opinion on Norfolkline will be aware, I am a snob. However, I also like a bargain, which means that I end up using a lot of cheapy products and services, giving me more opportunities than most for snobbery. One such opportunity is when I visit Wilkinson. Just to clarify, the shop is called Wilkinson, but their own-brand products carry the Wilko brand. Wilkinson has probably been around for getting on for 20 years now, but has only become a prominent name in the high street in the past 3-5 years. It sells just about everything! Departments within the store include a ... more

Advantages Advantages Sells most small things for the home

Disadvantages Disadvantages not very helpful staff

You can always tell a Wilkos, short for Wilkinsons with the yellow banner outside and glass plated windows that are large and the amount of things that are packed tightly into the store. I first came into contact with this store in the late 80s when I lived in the Greater Manchester Area and a new little version had opened in Sale. I swore by this shop then as I do now, but somewhere down the line it has lost its customer service. I am going to tell you about my store in Warrington, however I must point out that most of the stores are the same that I have visited. The Layout of the store ... more

Advantages Advantages All that stuff, under one roof

    Disadvantages Disadvantages As Above

Wilkinson’s (or Wilko’s as it was previously known) is as tempting for shoppers as a shiny piece of jewellery is to a magpie. Very. For those of you who don’t know it, Wilkinson’s is bit like that shop in Open all Hours (you know with a very young David Jason) it really does sell everything (unfortunately the customer service is often on a par with Ronnie Barker’s!) My first experience of Wilkinson’s came about as we were in the process of buying a house, and subsequently needed things to put in it. Important things such as glasses, cutlery, cooking ... more

Advantages Advantages All sorts of everyday items at very competitive prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages 'jack of all trades, master of none'

I swear by Wilkinsons for good quality cheap products, especially as I think they have improved their products and image in the last couple of years. It has pretty much everything you could want for your house, garden, pet, face, hair, kitchen, bathroom, car, child, headache ..... you get the picture. I find Wilkinsons particularly good value for items such as foil, kitchen rolls, deodrant, shampoo, cleaning products, moisturisers, garden and DIY tools and light bulbs. Wilkinsons sells its own brand of such items as paint, tools, garden products, kitchen goods, beauty products, stationary ... more

    Advantages Advantages range and prices

    Disadvantages Disadvantages layout

My expereinces of Wilkinsons' shops are limited to Redditch and Cheltenham, but if these are reasonably typical, then they are a shop worth venturing into. Wilkinsons are in the cheap and cheerful end of the market - comparable in many ways to the likes of Pound Stretcher. However, where most bargin shops offer goods of dubious quality, Wilkinson offers a significant number of recognisable brands at low prices, and an own brand range of quite respectable quality. Range of products: That I have seen - household ware, baby bedding, toiletries, gardening stuff, wicker baskets, clothes, furniture ... more

Advantages Advantages Great low prices and fantastic variety.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not really any, unless you start being pedantic...

Wilkinson's is a discount warehouse store selling low cost items. Rather like Tescos but they sell utility items as well as some general groceries, toiletries, stationery and also some furniture - having said that, Tesco's also do furniture and electrical appliances now (via their Tesco Direct catalogue). Several years ago, most of Wilkinson's items were only well known brands that were sold at a much lower price. However, over the last couple of years there prices have been creeping up and it was no longer necessarily Wilkinson's who held the lowest prices. At around the same time Wilkinson's ... more

4 Stars "My new room" by Wilkinson Review with images 31/08/2004
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Cheap, good range, helpful staff

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Spend too much

The first experience I had of Wilkinson’s was about 9 years ago, whilst visiting my in-laws in Cramlington, Northumberland, and when we discovered that our local Food Giant was being transformed into a store we were excited. I love Wilkinson’s! They stock a wide range of household goods, from cleaning products to pet care to decorating and finishing touches. Being unable to drive, in the past, decorating products have had to be purchased from a local home décor store, which has proved to be quite costly. We recently had new windows installed by Safestyle, but that is a different review, and ... more
