    Advantages Advantages Can tighten and loosen them relatively easily and quickly, without spanner or any other tool.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bigger than ordinary nuts, so may not be suitable for tight spaces.

    Wing nuts have angel-like wings at the top so that they can be tightened or loosened with your fingers rather than using a tool like a spanner. Usually this makes the job quicker and easier. Some people call them butterfly wing nuts. The wings take up more space than the sides of an ordinary nut. However, the fact that the wings are rounded makes them less likely to scratch anything they come into contact with.
