Advantages: The best, simple, no-frills accounts around.
Disadvantages: Charge you heavily if you want more complicated stuff.

...and I have to say, Woolwich have coped admirably with this. The cashiers now know me almost personally, and are always friendly and helpful. They'll always do what I tell 'em, and they'll do it with a smile. This is a lot better than I've seen with other banks. I have had several Woolwich accounts dating back about 20yrs. Back then, they were my nearest branch and they were reasonably competitive on all fronts. My main gripe with them is this: They started subtracting £23.80 a month for 'insurance' from my account 5yrs ago. I noticed immediately but was told in the branch it was tied up with a loan I had. ...decisions based on what the Woolwich tell them, and that working in the Finance industry, I had never come across such bad service. I did get some joy from this, and they are now going to allow me to pay off a sum, as a goodwill gesture and apology for the way I was treated. ...WAS FIRST BROUGHT TO THE WOOLWICH WHEN I APPLIED FOR A SECURED CREDIT CARD, UPON APPLYING ON LINE AT THEIR DESIGNATED WEBSITE,I WAITED ALMOST 4 MONTHS BEFORE THE RELEVENT LITRATURE WAS SENT OUT TO ME.THIS BEING PARTUCULARLY BAD AS THERE ARE NOT MANY BRANCHES OF THE WOOLWICH ABOUT.WHEN MY APPLICATION DID EVENTUALLY ARRIVE I FOUND IT TO BE VAGUE AND UNINFORMATIVE.THE CATUAL PROCESSING OF MY VISA APPLICATION WAS EVEN WORSE IT TOOK ALMOST 8 WEEKS TO PROCESS ... We have had a Woolwich Openplan Reserve Mortage account for over 10 years. Then Barclays took over. Weare not allowed to go to our local branch to pay money towards our Visa. Now got to put our money into our cheque account at another Bank, THEN write a cheque and post it to them. THEN they take our payment off our mortgage instead of our Visa. Disadvantages: Not an easy site to navigate at first

I was looking on the internet for a personal loan when I came across this website. They had previously been reccomended to me for having one of the lowest interest rates around. Then I saw one of their new T.V adverts and thought I would go and have a look. At the moment if you open an account with them and pay at least £250 a month in to the account then you will receive a free nokia 7110 WAP phone on vodafone!! A great deal I think. It was true ... Advantages: It has many branches and maybe you got "migrated" so it has your cash !
Disadvantages: It is very unhelpful and does not respect normal banking conventions.

I have been "migrated" to Barclays, no new card has been sent and my cash balance dissappeared ! So I had to go in Person to a Barclays branch to get out IN CASH everything and I will continue to do it this way until I can close the account properly. THEY SUCK they even try to convince you to open new Barclays accounts which COST you money !!! INCREDIBLE ! ...a bank I went to Woolwich and added my name to his account. They were helpful and I received my own cards with my own pins. I will be taking my 17 yr old son there to open his bank account and expect to be able to open up an account without much fuss and muss. My husband also has an open plan with them and received his details fast and efficiently. We have no problems accessing our account over the internet. I suppose its like anything else. It depends ... ...much a review on the woolwich but a warning about there charges. Being a member of the woolwich for 12 years i was fairly happy but never really used it only withdrawing money and putting my wages in. How ever about a year ago i moved out of home into a flat and with this came bills so i ended up starting about 8 direct debits. all was going well until one day when i was coming back from holiday and i was delayed for 48 hours i didnt get back in time ...
