If you want to play, read this first ..

Advantagescheap books as a come on

DisadvantagesIt could be expensive

"World Books is one of those companies which you can just grow to hate. They play a hard game but it's one that you can win if you go in with your eyes wide open and know some of their tricks. If you follow my guidelines you can come out on top. Apart from that, I would not advise anyone to go for WB. First, the basics. WB just love to attract nice impulsive people who look at their extremely tempting ads, promising books for almost nothing, and ..." Read review

BOOKS AT BARGAIN PRICES

AdvantagesEntry deals

Disadvantagescancelling each month

"Since starting my new found hobby of reading, I have joined a couple of book clubs, one of them being World Books. World books have members in excess of 600,000; and have been going for many years now and are owned BCA (British Club Associates) who also own other well known companies including BOL, Just good books and Mango. I admit I was tempted by the offer I saw in a magazine where you could get six gardening and thriller books for less than ..." Read review

Send me one more letter and i will sue you

AdvantagesThere are none

DisadvantagesEverything about them

"It all sounds so appealing doesnt it, you get a flyer, or see the website and it says "get 6 books for 1p each, plus a free book" and you think great im having some of that and off you go checking through the offers and filling in the form, either online or on the flyer. One word of warning - DONT DO IT!! Okay so thats three words but it all means the same thing, i urge you NOT to go anywhere near this company for the reasons i am about to tell ..." Read review

Advantagesit's really hurting my head to think of any!!!

DisadvantagesEVERYTHING!!

"okay....so you see a leaflet in a magazine. It looks good, full of books. Your into your reading and you see that you can have 6 books for a penny each. You think to yourself why not, i love reading this could be a good chance to stock up the old bookshelf. You read the small print...only commitment is to buy 4 books in one year.... FANTASTIC!!! You send of the completed leaflet, filled with your choices, quite happy that this could be a great thing. ..." Read review

Pure Frustration

AdvantagesCheap Books (To Start)

DisadvantagesFar To Many To List Here

"I first joined World Books about 5 years ago. I love to read and was more than happy to receive 5 or so books for 1p each as a joining offer. It worked well for me for a while and then I stared receiving titles I had not ordered (the editors choice). You do have to remember to turn this down if you do not want it, and it can be a real drag. I order the designated amount of books as advised and cancelled my membership. Then sometime later ..." Be Wary of World Books

AdvantagesEasy Access to Recent Books

DisadvantagesMembership Commitment

"Re-edited - hopefully this will help you a bit more! World Books is a book club which you are able to order a selection of books from, I have written how the club works and my opinions on it. -Initial Offer- I initially thought World Books was a good idea when an offer came through the post and offered 5 books for the price of from 1p a book. Thinking this was a good offer I signed up straight away. I ordered Danielle Steel – Kiss, Delia ..." Read review

Excellent Offer

AdvantagesJoining offer

DisadvantagesDeciding which book to read first

"I first joined World books 5 years ago. The only problems I have had is receiving the editors choice when I didn't want it. This was my own fault as I hadn't bothered to send the slip back in time to refuse that months choice. I didn't always return the editors choice though and as a result I have been introduced to a wide range of authors that I would not normally buy. Jeffrey Archer to name one. The joining offer is brilliant. You get to choose ..." Read review

Cheap books, bargain books, they're all the same

AdvantagesOnline purchase

DisadvantagesSeeing the book for yourself, slow postage, slow accounting

"I joined World Books about 6 months ago, for the cheap introductory offers, making huge savings on popular titles. They say there aren't any catches ... there are. The one catch is that you have to purchase 4 books in the next 12 months as a 'committment', if you don't you are threatened with either an invoice for the full price of the introductory books you ordered, or failing that, Court action. So long as you are aware of this little detail, ..." Read review

DANGER beware WORLD BOOKS

Advantagesnone - its all a big con

Disadvantagesreally bad customer service

"I would just like to update this review as it was written a while ago. I wish I could now say something nice about World Books, but unfortunately I can't! My partner joined them, against my better judgement!, and he has also had a lot of hassle from them. They continue to send the monthly book, even when he has asked them not to. He tried to cancel the membership and they threatened to take him to court. He finally bought the required number ..." Read review

World books

AdvantagesNone as far as I can see

DisadvantagesAwful customer service, non reply of e mails, letters, unkept promises

"My wife joined a year ago. Was promised a free gift of value. This was never sent. Each phone call said that it was to be dispached that day. One year later we are told that we should have sent in a claim flyer for it. On joining we were told that as it was a phone transaction that it would be ordered straight away no flyer needed. Each memeber of staff tells different story. In protest we didn't order more books only to be told that we would be ..." Read review

The world of rip-off book prices more like

AdvantagesAttractive introductory offers

Disadvantageshave to buy 4 costly books to cover membership

"Don't get caught out by all the great introductory offers by World Books. They have sent me books I have never asked for, which they claim are 'Editor's Choice' books. Yes, they do offer books at discount prices, but they are mostly hardback books you would not get anywhere else, so such 'discount prices'are prices based on their made up prices. Also, even if the books are discounted, if the book itself is popular, there would only be a small discount ..." Read review

So many books so little time!

AdvantagesGood way to buy books without leaving the house

DisadvantagesI spend to much

"I have been a member of world books for nearly a year now. I can easily read a book in a couple of days if given the time, and will read rather than watch TV! I have not had any problems with them so far. I ordered my books at the introduction price. You then have to buy 4 more books at their price within the next year. This was done within a week by me! Once you have done that it is up to you. They have the editors choice, a selection of three ..." Read review

Every book is discounted

AdvantagesGood choice of books available, good prices.

DisadvantagesNone so far

"I have recently become a member of World Books book club and so far I am absolutly delighted with the scheme. I was prompted to join by one of these ads where you buy 5 books from 1p each. Well I bought 5 books, none of which were 1p, most of them were very expensive. (normal price) I spent £21 on my books but saved over £130 which seemed to me a very good deal. I know I have to buy at least 4 more books in my first year which I am quite willing ..." Read review

Avoid World Books like the plague! Abysmal...

AdvantagesInitial 'cheap' books offer

DisadvantagesDisgusting customer service, most abysmal I've ever experienced!

"Since joining World Books and then having problems with them, I found the bad reviews of their company here. I only wish I'd read them BEFORE joining! Do yourself a big favour and do not become a member with this company. No matter what good deals you see on a 'join us now' offer, it is just not worth the hassle you will be giving yourself. The first thing that went wrong with this company is that their website did not work properly. Try refusing ..." Read review
