The Discworld Assimilates Shakespeare....
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
Kukana
Advantages: Humorous, good characters, lots of literary references
Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste
Oh, I do like this book! The sixth 'Discworld' novel shows Pratchett at his best, in my opinion. There are cleverly intertwined plots, humorous characters, and brilliant references that take the mickey from the 'real world'. The Discworld, for those unfamiliar with it, is a disc-shaped imaginary world which has an approximately mediaeval culture peopled with a wide variety of recognisable species, including plenty of humans.
Granny Weatherwax, ...

The Wyrd Sisters At A Glance
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
Springzy
Advantages: Uses a great feel of magic and humour to create atmosphere
Disadvantages: If you haven't read Macbeth, some humour may not be understood
...but righteous in their rites.
The Wyrd Sisters are made up of 3 witches:
Nanny Ogg: A fun loving witch who joins in with a good jig now and then, and doesn't really do much - she has countless daughters-in-law to do everything for her. Nanny Ogg tends to be quite free-spirited and go against some traditional wiccan rules, especially if it means getting home in time for a nice cuppa.
Granny Weatherwax: Much recognized as the leader of the group, ...

Advantages: Witches, ghosts and thespians.
Disadvantages: You'll either love it or hate it...
...one of the good ones. Wyrd sisters is the story of three witches, a King, a Fool, a kingdom and theatre.
The Disc is a flat world, floating through space on the back of four giant elephants, supported by the star turtle Great A’Tuin. At the Rim, the oceans flow endlessly into space and at the Hub stands the ten miles high peak Cori Celesti, home of the gods. It’s all held together against all odds and reason by the strong magical field ...

When shall we three meet again
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by

Advantages: very funny
Disadvantages: makes a lot less sense if you don't know your Shaekspeare.
...Tuesday," answers one of the Wyrd sisters, and you know you are in for some laughs.
The Wyrd sisters are three witches - niave hippy Magrat Garlick(her mother couldn't spell 'Margaret') Bawdy fun loving Nanny Ogg, and stern Granny Weatherwax. They've just formed a coven, and are managing to muddle along (They represent the tripate goddess of the witches, maid, mother and crone, which is an interesting aside.)They wear black pointy hats, they d ...

Wyrd or what
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
Aquarian
Advantages: Funny, a great read and entertaining
Disadvantages: you can't put it down
Wyrd Sisters
Anyone who has read any of the books written by Terry Pratchett may have already come across Granny Weatherwax, Magrat and Nanny Ogg. For those of you who haven’t these women are witches. They had formed a local coven and this particular night they had met up in the forest to sit by a fire make tea and discuss idea’s, or just to chat, for witches were usually solitary beings. The coven thing was quite new.
Granny Weatherwax was ...

Terry does Shakespeare.
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
Bettyboo
Advantages: The story lines amazing.
Disadvantages: It gets a bit confusing.
For any of you having to read Macbeth for engish lit. or have read it in the past this book has a story line you just might recognise.
Three witchs a baby, murdered king and a kingdom that can't stand the new king. Just screams to you that this isn't your normal bog standard book. For starters it not the kingdom as in the people who hate the new king (to them he's just like any other tyrant), it's the kingdom itself who wants to be rid of him.
With ...

Wyrd Sisters, Wyrd? Or funny?
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
sirenkaybee
Advantages: A masterpiece of turtles, and elephants and of course witches
Disadvantages: None really!
Terry Pratchett, a magical man in no other sense of the word. His beautifully written comedies are a masterpiece, this one none the less.
Opening phrase on the title page in the book says it all, (Starring Three Witches, also kings, daggers, crowns, storms, cats, ghosts, spectres, apes, bandits, demons, forests, heirs, jesters, tortures, trolls, turntables, general rejoicing and divers alarums.) And it does.
Basically to put this book into a ...

Terry Pratchetts Macbeth
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by

Advantages: A very funny take on Macbeth
Disadvantages: none
...its head and you have Wyrd Sisters, Terry Pratchets 6th Discworld novel and our first taste of Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick and a welcome return for Granny Weatherwax, the 3 Wyrd sisters.
In a shameless parady of Macbeth Wyrd sisters tells the tale of the kingdom of Lancre that is rules by a Duke that hears voices and the witches fight to restore order to the kingdom.
The 3 witches like the wizards at UU and the city watch are one of the most endearing ...

Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
happytan
Advantages: excellent read for people wanting mystique
Disadvantages: long,shakespeare like(is that bad)
When I ordered this book from my local store of ottakers,i ordered it with the impression that it was quite a popular book as it was apparently going to take about 12 days for it to come in which I thought was extraordinary as terry pratchatt books are in masses and for one of his books to be more popular than all his other titles I thought this was unusual for fantasy reads.i thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am starting to envy Mr. Pratchett ...

The wyrd and worldful world of Pratchett
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
purplekay
Advantages: Great imagination
Disadvantages: Lots of sub-plots
Another classic tale from the Diskworld, Terry Pratchett's Mythical flat world which is carried through space by Atuin, the giant turtle.
Although this is the 6th novel in the series, you do not need to be familiar with the series to enjoy this book.
The story is a true Pratchett-style blend of comedy, satire and Shakespeare. The King of Lancre has been murdered in Macbethiab style
by Duke Felmet, who despises the kingdom and has discredited its ...

Terry Pratchett and Will
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
Split_Personality
Advantages: A great theme
Disadvantages: Can drivel on sometimes about something irelevant
Terry Pratchett has tried to make an adaption of the William Shakespeare play Macbeth and has be very successful! It has a great edge to the story and keeps you enticed from the first page. Everything there is supposed to be in a proper fantasy novel is in that book and comes off very strong and very well.
I have given this book to all to all of my family and they are all reading it together every night.
Anyone who is thinking of buying this ...

Shakespear Move over
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
cicymru
Advantages: see article
Disadvantages: see article
The user friendly version of Macbeth. If you know Macbeth you will recognise the story which opens with the witches around the cauldren.Wyrd Sisters is the first of the witch books in the Discworld series.
Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg have to take action because the land does not like the new king. How they go about this is full of laughs and a comedy of errors. The withches appear in a number of the Pratchet books and are very well crafted characters. As ...

Terry Pratchett's The Wyrd Sisters
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
mummy25bear
Advantages: Excellent Read
Disadvantages: Not being able to put it down
An amusing novel one of Terry Pratchett's best, or so I think.
Pratchett unlike other aurthors has chosen to take certain scenes of the famous play Macbeth by Shakespear but instead has taken the view of the three witiches. Many people say it is a re write of the play but I disagree. You can see the observation of our modern world in his Discworld fanasy series which i think just brings the homour to life
The king is murdered and the Duke has taken ...

Advantages: Granny weatherfax is back
Disadvantages: none
For the 6th book in the discworld series we get the welcome return of Granny Weatherfax who is joined by Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick to form a coven - no naked dancing mind.
The basic plot is based on Macbeth with the 3 witches, a murdered king, and the return of the rightful hier. To let Tonjon the rightful heir return granny flips Lancre the disputed mountain kingdom out of time for 15 years to set up a final showdown. Unfortunately Tonjon is ...
