Advantages: amazing visuals, massive opportunities, open ended gameplay, wide choice of gameplay styles. Disadvantages: High computer requirements. Currently very buggy, terrible terrible TERRIBLE storyline, bad acting, bad cgi cutscenes.
X3 is actually the fourth in the X series, originally starting with X:Beyond The Frontier wayy back in 1997. All the X games have built upon what was offered in the orignal game.
Basic story/game outline:

This is a game that i waited a long time for. Having played X2, i was eagerly waiting for the expansion pack, but as time went by, the developers came up with a new engine and an ever expanding game, so it was goodbye expansion and hello whole new game.
Before you buy this, take note. If you do not have a powerful system with a modern graphics card, then this game may not even load. I know, itried it in an older system and it wouldn't even start, ... ...it into my main system with a geforce 6 graphics card loaded with 256MB of memory and it played fine, although it can get a little slow at times if you have too many things going on in the sector that you are in.
In the game, you have a story line centred around the Khaak attacks and various other subplots involving a strange cloaked ship and some pirates. I don't want to say too much, because that could spoil the fun. The universe is very open ...

Great game once it has been patched to the latest update which can be downloaded from the egosoft website, however if you play on it without any patches it will be almost unplayable. Some of the best graphics around at the moment which unfrotunatly then puts a lot of strain on your PC and you will need more than the minimum requirements to find it enjoyable. The game can be made great with the script editor where just about anything can be done, ... ...forums which can make the game a whole lot better. The forums also provide a great community for the game and if you have a problem most people on there will try and help you out.
So overall it is a great game especially with the open end gameplay and the awesome graphics can be made even more enjoyable with new scripts. But you will have to download the patches to gain any enjorment out of it . ...

Advantages: Superb Graphics and Modeling Disadvantages: Poor performance and numerous bugs - compatibility issues
I purchased this game 3 weeks ago and since have spent 10 times more time and 20 times more money upgrading my system attempting to acheive playability.
If you dont already have the latest computer out there (or even if you do you may still encounter problems) you may want to save yourself alot of aggravation and pass.
I have had nothing but problems since my first attempt to install (which failed due to corrupted files / faulty CD's)
X3 reunion ... ...just not there YET. The graphics and modeling of the X3 universe is breathtaking and the scale is mind blowing. All of this beauty is however useless if the program will not run properly.
My advice would be to wait until the developers sort out the problems first. ...
