Advantages Advantages Vibrant, modern artwork and storytelling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Convoluted history to keep up with

You may have seen the movie a few years ago, but long before Hollywood got their teeth into the franchise, Marvel Comics were producing some fine comics featuring this band of mutated superheroes. Few Marvel characters have been as successful as the X Men, with countless spin-off titles, cartoon series and other X Men related merchandise. The X Men are a world-wide phenomenon – welcome to their universe…. WHO ARE THE X MEN? The X Men are a band of mutant super heroes, gathered under the wing of Professor Charles Xavier. They exist only to protect the rest of the world from the ... more

Advantages Advantages Great stories, great villains, great satire

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes struck an uneasy balance between adventure and personal probs, Cyclops was always very intense

Comics, the literature of the young, the art of the masses - a truly splendid institution. Let me make it absolutely clear right from the off that it ain't the most recent versions of the X Men comic on Marvel that I'm thinking of here (the one with Wolverine, Rogue and Gambit), but the original way back in the Sixties, when there were just five of them plus Professor X and they all wore those blue and gold pyjamas. Sorry to disappoint you hip, post modern, young dudes, but I'm talking about the Golden Age of Marvel Comics. Also, this op has very, very little to do with the recent film version ... more

As superheroes go Wolverine really does stand head and shoulders above the rest for sheer force of character. He is a total bloke, his idea of a good night out is beer and babes which I have to agree goes pretty much along with my ideas too, shame I’m married..... Wolverine’s basic premise is he is a mutant, like a lot of the heroes in the Marvel universe, his mutation is a super enhanced ability to heal and fight disease. His backstory though I’m not sure if it has ever been truly confirmed just hinted at, is that a secret government (?) cabal used his healing ability as a ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages for kids onlu

The X-Men first made their appearence in 1963. Put out by Marvel Comics the artist at the time was the legendary Jack Kirby, who also created the early characters. The characters were Cyclops, Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman, The Beast, and Professor Charles Xavier. Their first battle was with Magneto. Cyclops has only changed in his uniform. Angel was turned into the Archangel by Apocalypse. Marvel Girl became herself as Jean Grey, but then turned into the Phoenix. Iceman went from a snowman with boots who surfed an ice path and shot snowballs, to actually looking liken a chiseled piece of ice who ... more

Advantages Advantages Ever wanted to see where these guys came from

Disadvantages Disadvantages you may not know where they want to come from

Everyone who is in this forum knows who the X-Men are has seen the film and read the comics. But who knows where they came from? If you want to find out have a look at the Essential X-Men. Marvel have introduced a means for reading those classic tales in a black and white format that works surprisingly well. With most graphic novels you have the story arc plus those little niggling bits (the plot hooks!!!!) that are there to get you to read the next issue. Now any dedicated comics fan is always there trying to buy the latst graphic novel!!!! Normally because it is the next big thing in the ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic Artwork! And a great explanation too!

Disadvantages Disadvantages I cannot think of ONE!

I am feeling pretty damned sad, to be a female, reviewing a comic. About wolverine! But, hey, its my passion! All this time, i have been reading X-Men comics, and always wondered, WHERE THE HELL DID WOLVERINE COME FROM?! And now i know... He is the insane, strange boned son, rejected from the rich family he came from. This is a fantastic series, it is only 5 issues, but tells a great story! The amazing art work, by Joe Queseda and Richard Isanove is astounding all by itself! Most comic artwork is a bit on the simple side, the characters arnt properly proportioned and the backgrounds and detail ... more

Advantages Advantages X- MEN!! STAN LEE!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Story is not that good

i've read it and i have to say it was a good read and it was very enjoyable. marvel does the greatest comics. i mean spider-man, iron man, the incredible hulk ! Oh man! i am getting nostalgic! the thing is X-men was one of stan lee's greatest superhero group . you have cyclops , man hat could shoot lasers out of his eyes and wolverine with claws on his knuckles and more! Stan lee is a great man who is not afraid of anything. he is not afraid that one day , DC might take over marvel . He did not think about what parents of kids would say about a spider type hero or about a green savage beast ... more
