Advantages Advantages Futuristic, Voice Support, Fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lag, Expensive, Tedious Set-Up

Introduction There is no doubt in my mind, that Microsoft’s ‘Kinect’ is technologically the most advanced hardware to be released for public consumption, probably ever, or at least the only one with a reasonable price tag! A bold claim, yes, but unlike other sophisticated hardware, the ability to provide ‘full-body 3D motion-capture, facial recognition and voice recognition’ along with many other things, can only be used to flail around a room… Don’t get me wrong there is nothing funnier than watching my Mother verses my Grandmother in an intensely competitive game of ‘Reflex Ridge’ (which I ... more

Advantages Advantages You are the controller

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited use

The Kinect The Xbox Kinect was released this November and there have been numerous advertising campaigns to persuade people to try buy one, after all $500million was invested into advertising. With so much money in gaming there is constant competition in gaming for who can be the best. We’ve gone from controllers that have to be plugged in to wireless controls to now seemingly no controls at all. The wii stormed the market with its capability to play games from the persons movements but never become a hit with hard core gamers. The real competition for gamers has always been between the xbox ... more

4 Stars Move over the Nintendo Wii! Review with images 27/11/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Easy to set up and use, makes game play more interactive, realistic and social

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sensor can be too sensitive and a bit slow sometimes with certain games

Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360 We bought our Xbox 360 and the kinect sensor as a bundle package about 6 months ago and I really like the sensor as it makes the games even more interactive and in my opinion it makes the Nintendo Wii look a bit outdated. The kinect sensor can be bought as part of a bundle package or separately but I think it is more cost effective to buy it as part of a bundle (if you do not have an xbox 360 already). - Description and specifications *3D depth sensors *RGB (red blue green) camera *Multiple microphones *Motorized tilt *Depth sensor range: 1.2m - 3.5m *Skeletal ... more

5 Stars I Love My Xbox Kinect Review with images 19/10/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Range Of Games, No Remotes Needed, Great Responsiveness, Easy To Use, Great For All Ages

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite Expensive, Can Get Confused, It Could Be Broken

Introduction# Before purchasing my xbox i did have a nintendo wii. I loved the fact you could play interactive games without any hastle of wires or non connecting remote controls. The nintendo wii was great for playing tennis, mario kart, and other games, providing hand movements for the use of them. Despite this i also purchased a xbox along with it. I am a technology person and i do like having lots of gadgets around the house. I had heard good feedback from the xbox, especially with games like Halo, and Call of duty which personall wouldn't interest me, but i was sure my brother would love ... more

    Advantages Advantages No controller

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be costly if have no console

Kinect is Microsoft’s answer to the Wii and competition to Playstation Move. I must admit, I hadn’t actually heard of Playstation Move until I started researching games consoles in my decision to purchase one. In any case both of these two competitors require a remote to track motion; Kinect is the first to work with nothing. You are the controller and this is what gives it the edge. I am not one to describe the length and colour of a product because for the majority of the time it is not necessary but for this product that is going to be sitting in view by your TV I feel it would be helpful ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing interface, easy to use, responsive, fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small range of games, need a lot of space

The Kinect for Xbox is a brilliant bit of technology. It’s a piece of hardware that hooks up to an ordinary Xbox and allows you to control games through gestures. It contains cameras and motion sensors to create an avatar of the player so when you move, the avatar moves too. Setting up the Kinect was straight-forward. It needed to be hooked into the back of the Xbox (easy enough) and positioned with the TV. You need to make sure that the sensor is somewhere stable. Mine sits right in front of my TV screen. I can imagine that this would cause problems if you have a wall-mounted flatscreen as it ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic gameplay, wide range of games now becoming available, reasonable price.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Occasion problem when playing certain games.

It is probably fair to say that we love gadgets in our home. We have almost anything you can possibly buy for the Xbox 360 and we totally adore playing it on a nightly basis after a busy day at work. There is just something about the escapism that makes for a wonderfully relaxing evening and Kinect was something we felt could add to this. We paid £139.99 for our Kinect, with Kinect Adventures & Sonic Free Riders, back in November 2010. This is obviously, now, quite an expensive price for this but at the time it was the best price available and we used a large amount of Nectar points in ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to use, quick to install, very intelligent

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A little expensive

My partner for ages was going on about the Microsoft Kinect (or Project Natal as it was to start with) and I never really saw the fascination with it. Other consoles have motion sensing technology and if this was all the Kinect did, I might as well have stuck with the Nintendo Wii. After much begging, I finally gave in and bought it for my partner just after it's release. I paid £129.99 for Kinect from Amazon, and it came with a game, Kinect Adventures. The idea of Kinect is that uses you as the controller. There is nothing in your hands, no buttons to press etc. It senses your body movements ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun to play, gets you exercising, good selection of release titles

Disadvantages Disadvantages Facial ID picky, can get confused, you need a lot of room

You are the controller. So says Microsoft. And it's true. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this for the time. It can follow your movements very well, it knows when your waving, it can tell the difference between your hands and feet and it knows who is in front of other people. It can even detect up to 6 people while tracking up to 2. I was amazed and I couldn't stop grinning while playing it. The face recognition works well to. It will have difficulty identifying you if there are more than 2 people detected. But on your own, and it will ID your face and sign you in ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing technology, control the whole xbox wirelessly, voice recognition

Disadvantages Disadvantages price is higher than the competitors

Microsoft Kinect was released into a motion market dominated by the Nintendo Wii. However, in just over a year Microsoft has turned it around, and is now the leading force in the market. Of course, being the gadget lover I am, I purchased one of these as soon as it came out, and have never played my Wii since! WHAT IT CAN DO The kinect is a fantastic piece of kit. It is basically a motion sensor with several cameras and an infrared laser to detect body movements and build up a 3D image of a user. The key selling point is that you dont need to controller to play, unlike the wii and playstation ... more
