Advantages: Cheap, does its job Disadvantages: Hardly spectacular, expensive to run
...enough, PC World announced the Xerox Docuprint C8 at £29.99 for a limited period only. In desperation, I snapped one up.
Starthing the thing was a bloody disaster, as the program refused to install. Once it began working properly it actually proved - touch wood - a bargain, in fact priniting faster than my former Epson model.
The design is hardly chic - the printed paper actually comes back up from the same opening where it enters - but this is ... ...decent standard and the black is fine, for my Rialto magazine at least, which is printed in black and white.
The main problem is ink. The printer requires four different cartridges - black, red, yellow, and blue. This is supposed to save you money because if one runs out you only need to replace that same one, but I have never known a printer to swallow ink so fast. Black cartridges cost £12 from PC world, while each colour costs £8 a piece. If ...

Advantages: Individual ink tanks, does the job (eventually) Disadvantages: makes plenty of cock-ups, expensive if the printhead goes caput
Sometime around either October or November 2000 I obtained one of these in Curry's in Scarborough for about £50 and been using it on & off ever since.
Installing it was a fairly simple matter of following the instructions and plugging one cable into the electrical socket, and the other into the back of my Iomega Zip drive.
It can be slightly noisey, and on numberous occasions caused me to jump a bit when it suddenly decides to do a print cycle.
... ...too badly, but shortly after I've ever since had to resort to sticking the sheets in one at a time to stop it taking the entire bloody lot with it, and printing onto several sheets at the same time.
I also discovered if one of the Ink tanks (which each hold about 25ml of ink) runs out, then it refuses to print even if you don't need to use that particular colour.... like if the Cyan (blue) ink tank runs out, but it wouldn't matter because the document ...

Advantages: Cheap, separate ink cartridges Disadvantages: Not very high quality printing, paper feed
...my choice in favour of Xerox DocuPrint C8 mainly for it being cheap and having separate ink tanks for different colours in its cartridge. Since then I have had a love-hate relationship with the device. My experience of last three months with Xerox DocuPrint C8 can be summarised in following paragraphs.
PRINTER AND CARTRIDGE
====================== * A light weight and compact printer. Has paper feeding tray on top. Printed papers will also be received ... ...have similar options but here Xerox makes a difference. I have not been finding the normal prints different from draft and best prints different from normal in case of HP printer. But here there is a visible difference in print quality for all three choices in Xerox’s case. Speed of printing also varies as per choice of quality. * Ink dries late. This affects the quality of printing too. If you are printing some thing that has different colour ...

Advantages: Cheap and reliable Disadvantages: none for that price
I don't know what's the problem with that guy that wrote the previous review on the Docuprint C8.
I bought the same printer from Jungle.Com (maybe that's the problem mate, it was your fault for trusting a salesman from Tidy ! ! ) and it have been working great all the time. The cartridge are the cheapest you can find. You just have to have a look at computer fairs: I bought a black one for £3.50 (this is a third of the usual high street price)
... ...up to 1440 ppp only swaping from normal paper to inkject coated one. If you set the printer to Best Quality and use that paper (you can get 200 sheets for a fiver from your local Lidl store), the results would not have anything to envy of any Epson PhotoStylus. ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: quality, ink usage, speed, paper feed
...go for the Docuprint C8. Xerox are a good company and i thought that it would be a respectable product. How wrong could i be!!
Quite simply, this is by far the worst printer i have ever come across. The print quality is awful, the ink never seems to dry, i could write the print quicker and it goes through cartridges like there is no tomorrow. On top of that, the paper feed is terrible. Most times it feeds more than 1 sheet through and more often ... ...ok and is connected via the parallel port. I prefer USB connection myself for easier installation and more speed.
I have decided to get rid of it and will be buying an Epson printer very shortly. If any of you are looking to buy a printer all i can say is stay away from the Docprint C8. ...

Advantages: Very cheap, good prints, good photo resolution, free collection warranty Disadvantages: Ink doesn't dry as quick as Cannon inks, single feed on envelopes, tricky on card feeding,
...express my opinion of the Xerox C8 being given away FREE. At first I was unsure what I would get and didn't know whether I would be committed to buying the inks from the company concerned but I needn't have worried as there was no commitment after paying for the initial inks at normal prices. I find the C8 to be a very good printer with excellent photo capabilities at 1200 or so dpi. The case is sturdy and the out feed isn't frontal so you don't ... ...I don't like however(and this has applied also to some of my previous printers). One, is the fact that I cannot feed more than one envelope through at a time, which is very labour intensive and frustrating if you have a lot of mailing to do. Also I find it does not always take 160g card through without a lot of fiddling about. The only other thing is that it seems to use up more ink than my previous Canon ink jet but I can't confirm that as a fact, ...

Advantages: Upright paper out tray Disadvantages: Noise, print cartridge lifespan, quality, paper feeds.
I got this printer free when I bought a laptop from PC World recently. There was a Lexmark Z22 available, but the separate ink cartridges was bit of a selling point. I liked that it had an upright paper out tray - takes up much less space. Set up was fairly straight forward, however I agree with the bloke who mentioned that awful noise. It is terribly noisy. I also have quite a few other complaints about this printer.
You can't turn it off (at least ... ...The documentation says it needs a bit of power to maintain the print head - however, the printer then gets noisy and sucks a piece of paper halfway through every time you turn your pc off.
Another complaint is that the ink cartridges - well, the black ones anyway - seem to run out extremely quickly. They are tiny little things and might be cheap (if PC World ever had them in..) but they don't last long at all!
Not that impressed with colour printing ...

Advantages: cheap with seperate tanks which should save money Disadvantages: noisy and not very good
I decided to try the docuprint C8 when freecolourpinters.com were offering them for £40. I wish I hadn't bothered.
The idea is great - four seperate colour tanks so you are not wasting ink but as they are around £10 each you don't see any saving. Don't touch the compatible ones, they are so thin and you end up with a soggy mess.
The printing quality is ok but i had a lot of problems with paper jamming or not feeding through properly.
It is also ... ...but this can be any time and has often woken me up. You cannot have a conversation while it is working.
We have now replaced it with an Epson 870 and relegated it to the boys' room but even they don't use it and would rather save their work onto disk and print on the epson.
Freecolourprinters are noe doing a small Epson bu I e-mailed them to ask about quality, explaining about the pile of junk they sold last time and never got a reply so I think ...

Advantages: Separate cartridges Disadvantages: Driver problems
I recently purchased this printer at a reduced price of £50 from Dixons. I can honestly say it is the worst printer I have used. The quality of printing is ok for £50 but I had major problems with the software. The driver had to be reinstalled several times. It does not offer many features, such as book printing. I also experienced problems when using it with the facilities on other software I have - namely print artist. Finally, although the separate ...

...from a Canon to a Xerox Docuprint C8. The selling point was that each of the colours had it's own cartridge, so that when one an out, you only had to replace that one colour, instead of the whole cartidge, thus saving money in the long run.
When we went to pick up the computer, the printer was not there, and we had to wait about 2 weeks for it to arrive. When I tried to set it up, it would not work - It made terrible grinding noises, and tried to ... ...the same thing happened.
Xerox sent out an engineer, who brought a third printer. Again, this one made a bad noise, tried to feed, took large wedges of paper and crumpled them up. It made a little more effort to print, but could only manage blank pages. The engineer told us that the Docuprint C6 and C8 models were more trouble than they are worth, and that he has no end of call outs to replace them. He also said that he doesnt know why the company ...
