...the Internet and found a yamada 5520 priced at only £34.00. I thought this sounded like a real bargain. The price included free delivery too! So with just a few clicks I waited with anticipation for the parcel to arrive, which only took a few days. Well that was several months ago now, so I feel able to review this great piece of kit, albeit in my usual techno phobic way!
What you get for your money.
The actual player itself is small and sleek ... ...the reasons I have stated. Richer Sounds also sell these players and rate them highly. I think for the money you would be hard pressed to find such a good all round model. Yamada is manufactured by umax and has branches in Europe (Germany) and asia) Taiwan) ...

...is so true for the Yamada DVD 520.
I purchased the portable DVD player after seeing a full page advertisement in my Satellite and TV weekly magazine.

DTS, Dolby Digital, Kodak Picture CD, MP3, what more could I ask for?
Well, it’s all very well having all this but you really do need a decent image on screen to enable you to enjoy ... ...is perfectly acceptable.
The Yamada 520 can also play conventional CD’s … great, but I wanted a DVD player. This falls way short of what I expected after reading the aforementioned advertisement ‘benefits’.
The remote control is fiddly and non responsive on most functions, you end up having to press a button several times before what you wanted to happen, happens.
Can you guess yet, that I don’t like it?
Ok, it’s cheap and cheerful but, oh so ...

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful Disadvantages: Blindingly bright standby button!
I have to admit that one of the main reasons I bought this DVD player over any of the other similarly priced ones, was that I mistakenly thought it was made by Yamaha (rather than Yamada, who I had never heard of at the time)! However, I have been using it happily for well over a year now and it's still going strong. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money or who doesn't want dozens of fancy features.
It looks ... ...mine), solid and well made, too. It was very easy to set up, is multi-region, and plays a whole range of other discs in addition to DVDs (see tech spec). I have noticed that it takes a little while to load a disc, but I'm only talking about 10-15 seconds or so. Not a huge problem!
The sound and picture quality is very good, if not excellent, for such a cheap player. It compares very well to DVD players of 5 times the price! It has frozen for a few ...

...my friends also had a yamada player (not the same model though!) and there's had conked out after a month! so it's possible that with this make it's either brilliant or weak. A standard player not for someone who's after the state of the art up to date model. ideal for bedrooms, teenagers and anyone on a budget. ...
