Yamaha XJ600S Diversion

I have recently been fortunate to have been bought an XJ600S Diversion by my dear wife (Bless her). She has known I've been after a bike since I sold my last one seven years ago. Previously I had had a Suzuki A100, a Honda H100S2 and a Suzuki GSX250. Maybe I'm getting old but my re-entry to biking is with the midrange Diversion, something that some of my ZZR and FZR friends have looked down their noses at. I bought an M reg Diversion with 16,000 miles on the clock, about 5 years ago. I use it as my only means of transport and ride it in all weathers. I must be every bike's worst nightmare - the bike is kept on the street, has never been serviced and eventually goes to the garage when the tyres are bald and the brake pads are down to the metal. ...f you go to your yamaha / local bike dealer and get them to do it for you but if you can afford a few tools and an hour or 2 then doing it yourself saves the £40 or so per hour labour charges. you can also 9/10 weld the exhaust where it had rotted and this is usually good for another few years but my advise would be do both pipes at the same time. the exhaust being the biggest downfall of this bike the only real other one is the front brakes. ...to stopping you safely and quickl;y but be warned that when/if you park up your bike for more than a fortnight or so without a really good clean down you may find that the front brake needs stripped down and cleaned/lubricated. I bought a 1994 Yamaha Diversion 5 months ago on ebay of all things. I paid pitance for it and put it on the road all ready to go for under £600 incl a whole spare engine! As a first bike it was a marvellous choice for the novice rider as it sits up well and is beautifully balanced. I bought a 'P' reg Yamaha XJ600 as my first bike after passing my test. it had 23,00 miles on the clock, 1 previous lady owner and it had never been ridden in the rain. The body work was immaculate for a bike 11 years old. Like many I bought the bike for those sunny afternoons, the occasional journey to work and as back up transport. I found the sitting position a little awkward at first as I had been riding a 125 for a year or so, and the postion was very upright. But I soon got used to it. I find the seat very comfy, the acceleration is good and the bike will quite happily sit at 80mph all day. Fantastic little bike. ...
