    Advantages Advantages Free on prescription, prevents pregnancy, helps with PCOS and endometriosis

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some side effects, remembering to take it.

    I have dreadful endometriosis and my doc prescribed Yasmin to stop the pain, he told me its a gentle tablet rather than the harsh Microgynon, Cilest and others. I have never been on any contraceptive pill before so am a bit nervous about using Yasmin in case it interferes with my thyroid tablets and also as my brother has DVT so i may be more suseptable to it when using Yasmin. I have been on using it for 4 days and so far I have a few side effects- moodiness, flu-like symptoms such as achy muscles, weakness and fatigue.     I have had a lot of problems with contraceptive pills (I usually have very painful breasts) but Yasmin although isn't perfect has been a big improvement to my life. Yasmin was not available through my family planning clinic as it was deemed a 'last resort' because it was more expensive than the others but I tried the doctors who let me have them straight away. I've been on them now for 7 months and everything seems fine with them. Yasmin has helped clear up my skin which was covered in a lot of spots, my breasts are usually pain free, theres less water retention, I hardly ever get PMT now, my ... more

    I've been on many pills now and this one (touch wood) seems to be the one for me. No side effects, no bleeding in fact when I switched from my other pill which made me bleed for about a month it stopped within two days of taking Yasmin. Would recommend this to all if you have problems with Estrogen. I'm really happy with this pill, thank god I found it !!

    Im not going to bore almost everyone with the ins and outs of how the pill works or taking the pill as I think there are so many reviews that do that, Im just cutting straight to my experience on this pill. I was on Yasmin for 7 months after trying all kinds of differant pills. I am now 31 and have been on the contraceptive pill since the age of 18 and have not really found one that is right for me. I found Yasmin good for no weight gain and I did not really suffer from mood swings.     Recently I have been taken off Yasmin due to the amount of migraines i had suffered in the space of seven days and the hight of my blood pressure. I now only wish that I had took other side effects on board sooner and gained professional help as I have been suffering with depression, Crying everyday without fail for no reason,Sickness, Dioreah,Stomache aches. I have not resorted to any other pill as my experience whilst taking Yasmin over the past 9 months has put me off.     I went onto Yasmin havng used Dianette for 6 months. Dianette was supposed to ease the effects of Polycistic Ovary Syndrome, however, still bearded (yes, lucky me), and then a stone heavier (Dianette sucked) it was recommended that I try Yasmin as I was also now using the pill as a contraceptive. I have just emptied all 5 packets and the few remaining pills of this months cycle into the bin having just experienced one of the worst fortnights of my life.     I went on to Yasmin after my previous pill, which I had been on for years without any problems) was discontinued. Initially it seemed fine but within a few months I turned from being a very confident out going trusting person into an irrationally, anxious wreck. At least 3/4 times a week I would break down in hysterical tears over the oddest of things, which scared the life out of me, and my boyfriend.     Hi everyone, yes starrybabe is 100% correct. Yasmin has made my once thick head of hair very thin, and bald in a few areas. I have suffered depression and panic attacksdue tothis and feel I am slowly going crazy. i took Yasmin for 3 months starting July 2006 and the shedding has not ceased over 12 months later, in fact it's worse now than ever. Starry babe if you ever read this, I would be very interested to know how your hair is now. Any regrowth? are you back to normal(ish)? Help anyone !!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Anxiety, depression, constantly crying and unable to rationalise any thoughts.

    I'm not the sort of person who is easily affected by medication or its side effects so when I read some of the reviews on here before I started taking Yasmin I ignored the reviews surrounding depression and anxiety. I was also told through loads of friends about how great this pill was, so when I started taking it I wasn't keeping my eyes open for any changes in my body or mentality. I was going through a rough patch with my boyfriend at the time but i noticed that even if i patched things up with him I'd still feel soo depressed and couldn't stop crying.     *update - 3.5 months later...* I'm still on this pill and so far, nothing's changed! I've not yet put back any weight, nor has the clarity of my skin changed, my breasts are still larger than they were pre-pill! I wouldn't be able to advise on whether or not it is effective as a method of contraception because all sexual encounters have involved protection (as they should, I'm petrified of STI's). Once my boyfriend moves back I'll update further ;) *end of update* I've never really believed in going on the pill; I've always thought that considering it doesn't prevent STD's, what's the point ... more
