    I have banked with Yorkshire bank since I was three, so I have given them 21 years worth of my money and custom. I first joined them with school as they suggested a bank account for children, so my mum kindly opened one for me. I had this bank account until I was 18, as I could not have a switch until I was that age. This is really the first experience I had had with them. I went in to make an appointment and spoke to a nice lady who organised a meeting. I had managed to save up quite a bit so the lady was very nice.     Several years ago my wife and I opened a Yorkshire Bank executive bank account. For this privilege we paid about £50 per year but for this we got what was called an executive account. Special cheque card with a higher limit, a gold mastercard, automatic overdraft of up to £500, a personal banker who sorted any problems out directly for you. This was fine, on paper. When things went to the dogs ( the company i worked for went into administration), suddenly they wanted everything back at once.     Advantages Advantages Very accomodating if you want a loan or an overdraft.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unfortunatly not quite so sympathetic if you're trying to claw your way back out of debt.

    "Hear all, see all, tell 'em nowt, Eat all, sup all, pay 'em nowt, an if tha's ever opening a bank account, tek it to another bank." If it's not the mission statement of the Yorkshire Bank, maybe someone ought to tell the staff. OK maybe that's not fair, until a year or so ago the Yorkshire Bank was in fact my favourite of the triumvirate of Banks I hold accounts at. (The others being Barclays and the Halifax) But that was way back when I was employed. Note I don't say gainfully employed.     Being from Lancashire, it is strange to hear me say 'Go Yorkshire Go' but this statment refers to the Yorkshire Bank plc. I wrote a review some time ago regarding Lloyds TSB and how disgusted I was with their service. I decided then to go over to the Yorkshire Bank plc. What a brilliant move! I have nothing but praise for the people at the Yorkshire Bank plc - Wigan Branch. Firstly, I have my own advisor who I see each time I want an appointment, which makes my visit to the bank easier and much more relaxing.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Rude, inefficient staff most of whom do not have a clue what they are doing

    I had a current account with the yorkshire bank a couple of years ago before i went to university, things went fine for a short time until I started going over my overdraft limit every month and i couldnt work out why, they also charged £9 a time for this. Eventually i got a Bank statement from them and that was a long wait. I found then, that they had set up not one, but 2 unauthorised direct debits from my account and were taking about £50 per month. When I complained, they told me they couldnt tell me any details about the direct debit other than the name of the company taking it, they told ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages They love grabbing money from customers?

    So I write a cheque to the local chinese takeaway for £29.50 towards due to me not having any cash to hand as I live in the sticks, simple - NO. The cheque cleared three days later, and caused me to go over drawn by £3.10 slight miss calculation on my part, never been good with money - but what is £3.10 between a customer of 3 or so years, well nothing to Yorkshire Bank. For the 'priviledge' of being able to write cheques and guarntee them to allow me to order a chinese when I didn't want to cook it has turned out to be the most expensive takeaway I have ever had.     Advantages Advantages Friendly staff, most of the time

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not open locally on Saturdays, poor interest rates, extortionate administration charges.

    Myself and my wife have banked with Yorkshire Bank for over 10 years now, during this time we have found the branch staff helpful and courteous, apart from once when I went 5p overdrawn and incurred charges of over £100, I called the bank to complain and had a lecture on poor management of the account! Iwas 5p overdrawn! The first time I had a slip up, needless to say I was so gobsmacked I didn't even get in a suitable retort. Beware of Yorkshire Bank, if you lose your card, and can't remember your last transactions, you can cancel your card but you can't order a new one, difficult to sort ... more

    I have recently worked in a Yorkshire bank and have had to quit purely because the customers are the rudest most ignorant people I have ever dealt with. I suspect the only reason they bank with Yorkshire is because no other high street bank would put up with there rubbish. It does not surprise me the bank has bad reviews but this really reflects the customers rather then the bank. It is not Yorkshire people either as my branch was not in Yorkshire. I think the customers who pick this bank tend to be backwards and living in the 1970's. The customers often come in having not filled in any paying ... more

    Here is a response for Yorkshire Bank posted on another site previously; BY ME! Yorkshire Bank Blackburn Lancashire England. Employee caught attempting identy theft. After 25 years as a customer with Yorkshire bank, I closed my accounts when I caught a teller at the Blackburn Lancashire branch attempting to steal my identity during a transaction. This is only one of many suspicious acts Yorkshire bank have been caught at.
