ZOVIRAX Zovirax is a white cream containing 5% aciclovir. It should be applied to the sore five times a day at approximately 4 hourly intervals for five days. If the sore has not cleared up after five days, treatment can be continued for another five days. It is supplied as either a 2g tube or in a 2g pump.
The manufacturers claim that if Zovirax is applied to your skin at the very earliest stage of the attack – when you feel ... ...blister does appear, treatment with Zovirax should speed up healing. However it does not get rid of the infection, and so cold sores may reoccur later.

...to Sainsburys and bought some Zovirax because rumour has it; tingling (which it was now plainly obvious what that weird lip feeling was) or blisters; this stuff will stop the need to wander around looking like a plague victim or having to pretend you’ve just bought a motorbike. There are also other creams such as Cymex and Blistex (formerly Blisteze) which help soothe the cold sore and stop it from drying out. You should be very careful when washing and drying your face as you may inadvertently pull the scab off. Zovirax costs me £5.99 from Boots pharmacy, it can be got on prescription but this would only be an advantage if you are in receipt of free prescriptions.
The tube of zovirax has a shelf life of 3 years. It is for external use only. Please check with the pharmacist if you are pregnant.

...friend for advice. Zovirax comes in a miniscule tube of 2g which is cleverly hidden by an outer larger rectangular box. Both the box and the tube are white with Zovirax enblazened across the front in green. It states that the cream will be effective at either the blister or tingle stage....if only I'd invested sooner!
The instructions direct you to apply the cream liberally (difficult when there's not exactly a liberal amount in the tube!) over ... ...told by a friend. However Zovirax will rid you of one if it has reached the blister stage so it is an all-round effective cream which does the job. The only real disadvantage is that it does take 5 days to shift the monkey, hence the reason I'll be staying in all weekend! Moral of the story - get to it before it gets on you! Zovirax comes in a tiny little tube and costs around £3.50 if my memory serves me right.It is available over the counter at all chemists.
At the first sign of coldsores, that itchy,tingly feeling around the mouth,apply Zovirax and you will have a very good chance of stopping them in their tracks.Even if they do fully materialise, the continued use of the cream will certainly reduce the size and lifetime of the unwelcome guest.

If you get cold sores whether on your lips, near your eyes, on the edge of your noes. Those are the symptoms for a very bad fever. They can be itchy and very red, not a very good sight to look at. They are also extremely tingly. Zovirax cream can help ... ...grief. You can get Zovirax in a tube or pot form. I get the tube form which is easy to carry around. So, when I do get that tingly feeling in the next month I will use some and it will hopefully help prevent blistering.

I got some zovirax cream from the pharmacy in Spain as this is what I had always used but to be honest by the time you put it on the virus is there and there is no way to stop it turning into a scab and staying there for weeks. DON'T PICK IT...my mantra that is!!! Zovirax cream seems to do nothing for me whatsoever, not even dry the blisters/scabs up quicker.

When I came back from that holiday I was ... ...prescribed me Aciclovir tablets (effectively Zovirax but in a tablet) They work like a course of antibiotics, you have 25 tablets and take 5 a day for 5 days. They were a revolution, my cold sore cleared up in days rather than weeks and I do believe that they actually prevent things getting worse if you begin taking them the minute you notice anything. Anti-virals are known to be extremely slow to work, there also not very good, by this I mean you need frequent applications (not large amounts) just frequent, zovirax is four times a day this is the most important thing I point out to my patients but still if I ask most use it wrongly:
- I put twice as much on when I got home from work because I ... ...able to damage it now. Zovirax will be a very expensive drying agent (which it does well). A this time it is more appropriate to use something like the cytex or Boots do an alcohol drying liquid which is good.
At this stage with your big fat lip it maybe nice to know:
- 12 million people in the UK get cold sores.
- They get them only 2 to 3 times a year.
- THEY ONLY LAST TEN DAYS !! To help mainly others remember a few key things.

Yep, I know the feeling, as a child I suffered badly with cold sores maybe 3 or 4 at a time, although I would pick them and probably spead the virus.
It would seem that that is exactly the problem and there is no cure, the virus (herpes) lives within our glands and can erupt at any time (particularly at time of stress when or when our immune system is under attack).
Of course Zorvirax was not available then, but now I have a tube or pump dispenser ... ...prevalent during the colder months. In fact I brought a pump container just yesterday, it is available and all good chemists and even some supermarkets stock it, it cost £6.95 and the tube is £4.95 (I think) or there about. I always go the the large option. My partner has a cold sore on his face which has been getting worse for the last day or so (couldn’t find the Zovirax) so had to purchase another) however it has relieved the soreness already ...
