ASK.com is trying to be one of the great competetive search engines, like google, msn and yahoo.
Now taking up Tv Advertising its popularity seems to fluctuate however it is still not in the most visited websites (yahoo being first, google being second)..
Ask.com has developed a great new feature which allows you to preview the page before visiting it, this is unique to ask.com - however this is not available for all websites, but is fairly up ... ...show off with these features but the key concept that they do not understand is speed. Yes the results page loads very fast, but not as fast as google and why does it have a special page effect (on loading the results the page appears slowly getting thicker from its translucent state)
The layout of the results is also not as attractive compared to google, it looks plain, with few colours, its nice that they put the search bar on the side like windows ...

Advantages: very flexible, fairly quick. usually finds what you want Disadvantages: the site you want is somewhere in the 99 you dont want!
Ask Jeeves any question, and you will get an answer. Usually you will get anything up to perhaps 100 answers. Somewhere in the mass of answers, you will find the web site which gives you the answer you want. If you hit the right one first time, do the lottery quick, as your luck is most certainly in! The odds are you will wade through a number of irrelevant sites until you find the one!

I like this search engine a lot because you can type in your search in natural language and it will give you accurate results. It makes searching a lot faster and means that you don't need to think about what the keywords are and in which order to use them. Jeeves is a helpfull butler type character who intelligently answers any questions you may ask him. Well so you would think wouldn't you. Well in reality he should be pensioned off a bit rapid or at least his hearing aid batteries should be replaced. On asking a question you are presented with a list of possible options covering the question you asked if ya lucky. Ask Jeeves is certainly based around a novel idea, namely natural language searches. Unfortunately it often doesn’t work very well, and just ends up redirecting you to the results of an Altavista or something similar search but with Ask Jeeves advertising at the top of the screen (An annoying trick they do with an external link from their site). Advantages: More colourful than google Disadvantages: Very rarely actually finds what you're looking for
I've been asking Jeeves quite a lot recently, but he seems to be able to my questions with even less intelligence than my dog!! He sometimes manages to finally get you where you want to go, but only after a long process which actually ends with you looking with a different search engine in the first place. It does seem like a total waste of time, and you might as well just start off in one of the others from the beginning.
The questions that it ... ...answer to your question or subject are just really stupid. I'm yet to actually look for something that has any relivance at all to these questions.
The site doesn't really look that bad. It starts off looking good, with just a simple question box. Here you then type your question. "Why are you so stoopid Jeeves??", I say. He then sets me up with some online IQ tests.
I don't see the point of ASK, when it just finds you links on other search engines. ...

Advantages: Useful for a specific question Disadvantages: Not very good for general searches
Ask.com is quite an easy to use website as a search engine. But, when you want to find out about something general, for example cars it is very difficult to use. However, if you were to search for a specific question ask.com is definately the website to use as it will very quickly bring up all of the websites in which contain your desired question. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THIS SEARCH FACILITY USES MANNED STATIONS AS WELL AS COMPUTER AIDED SEARCHES.
I CANNOT REMEMBER A TIME ,WHEN I HAVE USED ASK...AND NOT FOUND JUST WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR.

A very handy sleeve to have up your sleeve if you have a legal or any kind of problem, help or advice is at hand by real persons.
It’s so easy you don’t even have to become a member all you do is post your question in the relevant category, so you get more replies and wait for your response. You normally get two or three e-mails the next day to inform you that your question has been answered. You can then check the replies and give them ... ...simple as that. I
If you become a member then you will be able to access our questions and answers much quicker, rather than shifting through all the answers. I use this site when all the other search engines fail to produce any good results, and since it’s questions answered by real people, it can be helpful as they are more likely to be accurate. i always get frustrated when i am tyring to find anything on the internet - especially for school work, so when i discovered ask jeeves.com i was really impressed.
the site lets you type in a question and you will get back a list of websites that answer your question or one related to that.
it is very helpfull and will always come up with sufficient enough an answer back to help you find exactly what you are looking for on the world wide web.
... ...excellent service getting exactly the right answer you want without loads of dribble that other sites give you.
the layout of the page is good and the page is very easy to use.
kids young and old and adults too will find this website very helpful in work and play. ...

Advantages: new approach to searching Disadvantages: it doesn't get what you want
www.ask.co.uk is the version I use and to be honest I find it a bit disappointing.
The idea to create a different kind of search engine is a good one howevere i feel this has not really worked.
the opening screen looks good enough so i put in the terms i want to search for and then a new screen appears that has far too much on it.
The sites often have wothing to do with what i was looking for and seem to me to have a commercial bias.
it access's ... ...do that I go to them.
Ask is not the best search engine by a long ay but give it a try as you may like the way it works. but to be honest i still use lycos or excite.
they give me what I ask for far more reliably that this. ...

Ask Jeeves provides a unique and interesting approach to search engines by allowing you to search using plain English questions rather than trying to figure out important key words.
Ask Jeeves allows you to type in a question in plain English. Based on your question it either gives you an answer or gives you a list of questions which may be more appropriate.
For example I asked ‘What is PI’
Ask Jeeves gave me the following suggested ... ...places?
Where can I find career information and advice about becoming a ‘Private Eye’
Additionally, Ask Jeeves gives me a list of sites that people who have asked similar questions have found useful.
Ask Jeeves also has the standard Categories to search through in a similar way to Alta Vista and Yahoo.com.
There is alos an Ask Jeeves for Kids.

Using many of the largest internet search engines like Altavista and Yahoo. It is very good at finding what you want. I would recommend that you use it when you cannot find anything in your favourite search engine. It also manages to find a lot of text files that do not appear on any other search engine that can be really helpful in telling you things. For example I had to do a Biology project and it was the only search engine that you can find it ...

Like a lot of people I tried Ask Jeeves after a heavy advertising campaign in the media.I was disappointed. The advantage of Ask Jeeves is that you can type in complete sentences eg "Where can I find information on Tony Blair's hairdresser?". The disadvantage is that it usually doesn't find what you are looking for. But for some reason I find that the UK version (www.ask.co.uk) performs a lot better...at least it does for my searches. The most used search engines are yahoo and altavista, and they have the largest databases. Ask uses both of these but does not come up with all their results. Try using them before asking jeeves :)
Besides, there are a lot of national projects, for example when you search some information specific for your country or your language. Asking jeeves won't give you the result :)
