Advantages: Simple, efficient with a nice site to boot Disadvantages: Less control, hard to listen mid-download
What does the word galaxy mean to you? To most people, it means a huge area of space occupied by stars and other heavenly bodies held together by strong gravitational forces. To a select few (mostly women), it represents the height of pleasure – a large bar of chocolate to be bought from the nearest shop as often as possible!
What has all this got to do with Audiogalaxy? Well I'll tell you – precisely nothing! But it was a good way to ... ...but well – that would just be stupid – the only similarity is that it's huge! Anyway, I'm waffling rubbish here, so I'll get on with it shall I? (crowd breathes sigh of relief)
- What? Who? Why?
Ever since Napster started showing signs of gangrene a while back, I've been on the look for a viable alternative. I've been through quite a few programs, the most well known being Gnutella. However, none of them worked all that well (if at ...

At first sight everything seems to be as usual: If you get to the front page of audiogalaxy.com, one of the most popular file sharing pages for mp3-files on the internet so far, you can still download the so-called, “Satellite”, this tiny program which I have spent so many happy hours with. This file sharing program that gave us the possibility of sharing an unlimited number of mp3-files with other users.
You can still search for songs ... ...of the page and you still get a large amount of search results. But something seems to be different. Some time ago, Audiogalaxy already started to use a filter that prevented the download of certain songs. That’s exactly what happened to Napster before it was finally closed.
But some days ago it was in nearly each case possible to outwit the filter by slightly changing the artist name or the song title for copyrighted songs. For example, if ...

Advantages: Comprehensive catalogue, easy to use, best since Napster Disadvantages: Not 100% uptime (but hey what does have it!)
Ever since Napster started threatening to fold/get rid of copyrighted material and bar people for trading it, I have been in search of a replacement for Napster. I have been dissatisfied with the likes of Aimster and Bearshare, and had my reservations about Audiogalaxy, although these reservations rapidly disappeared once I had tried it out.
The first difference between the Old King Napster and the new young pretender to his throne was the interface. ... ...only piece of software you have to download for Audiogalaxy is the Audiogalaxy Satellite which interprets the instructions sent from the webpage, since Audiogalaxy is essentially web-based. The download is also smaller and being web based there is less to download than was the case with Napster.
The log-in process is very easy, and Satellite saves your preferences and your details are then kept safely, and you won’t require your password or ...

Finally I have found a really beneficent program for download mp3's. First of all I had Napster. Remember when Napster was out it was famous. Now due to the court cases and copyright theft act Napster is lacking its program. Try looking for mp3's surely you wont be able to find them. So I came to ciao to read opinions on finding a better mp3 program than Napster. I came over all sorts of programs from KaZaA to Gnuttella. So I tried them all out which ... ...quit a a lot of memory and I found that the download time took longer than Napster.
So I came over Audio Galaxy. I was astonished it came out to be the best one yet. So I shall explain to all you members of ciao what exactly audio galaxy is and what it does.

Audiogalaxy saved my life. Well maybe it’s pushing the point a bit but hey. You see I love music, “music was my first love and it will be my last music of the future and music of the past, To live without my music would be impossible do, In this world of troubles my music pulls me through” (there I go quoting dodgy John Miles lyrics from the 70’s doing my credibility no good at all), however being a family type I have more ... ...electricity bills. The only time I ever got to spend money on CD’s was my birthday and then I ended up blowing it on something dodgy and regretting it until my next birthday only to do it all around again. Well now it’s my birthday every day!! My sanity and normality have been restored and I can get pretty much any music I want. Woohooo. Audiogalaxy is, I suppose, a Napster clone. The idea is very similar, you simply download a nifty ...

Is this the best site on the Net? Well, if you've got even a passing interest in music it certainly ranks up there.
Napster is dead and buried (at last - I was never a big fan!) and Audiogalaxy is now the king of free music downloads.
Any band, artist or song - you'll find it all here. FOR FREE!!! Easy-on-the-eye web pages, easy download options - this site is exactly what the Net is all about.
Dance, rock, pop, R&B, soul, hip-hop, country, classical, ... ...your PC and burned onto a CD-R.
Sorry Mr Record Label boss, but never again is my hard-earned £15 going into your greedy pockets. I bought my last CD a couple of months ago - and Audiogalaxy means you never have to splash the cash again!
If you lose your connection or log off you can automatically resume your downloads next time you go onto the Net thanks to the discreet icon on your toolbar. It even runs in the background so you can download songs ...

Oh how we all wept when Napster shut – except I didn’t. Napster was plagued with usability problems, unresumable downloads, never having access to all of the shared music (Napster has/had over 100 servers and you could only see files on the server you were connected to) and the one that always bugged me – Forcing the user to remember what songs they want, what songs they have successfully got from that list and what songs simply ... ...that list can easily be a hundred songs long.
* Lesson 1: Getting Started *
First things first you need to pop over to www.audiogalaxy.com and download their ‘satellite’. This is Audiogalaxy’s client program that connects to their server. Once you’ve got the satellite you use the program to create your Audiogalaxy user account and then you can log on and start downloading. Except for ages I couldn’t. My first problem ...

Advantages: resumed downloads, free, large selection, user integration and involvement Disadvantages: impossible to use internet at the same time, no pause button, at first only one song at a time, no d/l prioritisation
After a ruling by US courts it seems that Napster, the internet music-swapping sensation, has finally had its day. The company has been ordered to ensure that all copyrighted music is no longer available for download via the service; fairly tough to do without killing it off altogether, I would imagine. As with all popular fads, Napster has attracted its fair share of imitations which are now becoming increasingly popular themselves, especially with ... ...original. One such imitator is Audio Galaxy (http://www.audiogalaxy.com), a similar peer2peer system which enables the swapping of mp3 files of all descriptions via the internet.
Surprisingly it seems that in this case the imitator has bettered the imitated; I for one certainly find Audio Galaxy by far the more attractive option. I was never a big fan of Napster, it must be said - slow downloads, pants reliability and lack of songs - but the advantages ...

Advantages: Huge catalogue of music, great coomunity site, useful to musicians looking to expose themselves to the music world Disadvantages: Hard to connect at busy times
Audiogalaxy at www.audiogalaxy.com is one of the newer breads of music sharing sites. When Napster was made to change many people went searching for new places that resembled the brilliant site that it was. Those that turned to Audiogalaxy, I think, gained the most. Audiogalaxy is a very good choice for MP3 downloads. It has taken the best of Napster and improved on its weaker sides.
But it is not just a file-sharing site; it is like a community ... ...themselves by posting their music, images and info on the site for free. Any Audiogalaxy member can sample this music and comments can be sent to the musicians themselves. This is absolutely brilliant for people starting off and trying to get recognised in the music industry. Another great thing for musicians is the fact that Audiogalaxy will offer 25mb of web space to do all this.
People who are just music lovers can have a great time at Audiogalaxy. ...

Advantages: Focusses on music, innovative file searches, fast and resumable downloads Disadvantages: Strange file naming scheme, service is very busy in evenings
With the Napster file sharing network now so heavily restricted, many have been on the search for an alternative. And there has been no shortage of alternatives either. Audiogalaxy is one of these, and in my opinion it is one of the best. Let me expand on that.
Audiogalaxy distinguishes itself from the competition in a number of ways. Whilst most other networks allow you to share any type of file, Audiogalaxy - as the name suggests - only allows ... ...disadvantage at first, but in fact it means that it can specialise in this area particularly well. The other difference is that rather than just allow the user to search the files of those other users that are currently online, you can actually search files who’s users are offline. This gives you a much greater choice of files, which is particularly handy when trying to find more obscure files. If you try to download a file when its owner is offline, ...

Nowadays most of you will have found the advantages of downloading MP3’s. As oppose to actually shelling out for them it is a very easy and convenient way of getting hold of the latest CD’s.
There are various programs that most of you will have heard of or used, Napster and it’s rocky road to disaster thanks to copyright problems and Morpheus with it’s old fashioned search and its hit and miss full track problems.

Introduction ~~~~~~
Napster is now effectively dead as the only Mp3’s left on it are ones that are copyright-free, but now Audiogalaxy – what started as a Napster clone has become the new must download for those wanting free Mp3’s. How it works ~~~~~
To use Audiogalaxy you must download the Audiogalaxy satellite which takes no more than a few minutes to download. Once installed Audiogalaxy automatically puts a shortcut to Audiogalaxy ... ...want to get an Mp3 you simply go to the Audiogalaxy website and search for your song from there. Once you’ve searched it the results will pop up and you click the Mp3 you want and it starts downloading.
One brilliant thing about Audiogalaxy that makes it so much better when compared to Napster is how you can half of an mp3 one day for example and then get the other half another day. You don’t have to get the whole Mp3 at once, which ...

It looked like the best, and it was -ALMOST- enough to make me want to go and trade in my iMac, but after a few weeks checking, I saw that a version of Audiogalaxy's Satellite software had been released for the Mac. Advantages: FREE, and they've got virtually everything. Disadvantages: I can't think of any.
Unlimited mp3s from literally every era, from waltzing to wicked, or simply boogie to dance.
Audio Galaxy is an excellent site where you can acquire almost any song you want to in mp3 format, and once you've got them it's pretty easy to burn them onto a standard cd or even convert via wave to an audio tape cassette. The idea behind Audio Galaxy is a simple share system where by downloading a small executable you are given a free connection to the AG Satellite.
