Advantages Advantages So much support and information for pregnancy and beyond

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Far too addictive!

Wow, where do I start with Babycentre? I'll start with how I came across it and came to love it. Unfortunately, 2.5 years ago, i had the first of 3 miscarriages. I didn't even know i was pregnant at the time. We hadn't thought of babies because myself and my partner had only been together for 6 months. However, a short while later, we found we were pregnant again. Another accident, although this time, a happy one. At the time, I was only 22 and knew nothing about pregnancy. I worked in an office with access to the web and decided to surf around for some information. Up popped Babycentre ... more

Advantages Advantages Well designed, easy to navigate web site

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Highly addictive

In December 2001 my clearblue test stick came up positive, I was pregnant! It was an exciting time and I made it my mission to find out all I could regarding pregnancy, I wanted to know what was happening to my body and what was happening to the baby inside. It is times like this that I really value the internet, a quick search and you have all the worlds information at your fingertips within moments. There are lots of sites offering information about pregnancy and I visited them all, but there was one that I went back to over and over again and eventually found that that was the only site I ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty for everyone thinking of having children or already a parent.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all, maybe the need to post every day though?

My partner and I have decided that we may start a family soon, probably after Christmas. Not being the most health conscious of people I thought that I should get some advice about diets for mothers and fathers to be. It was while randomly Googling words connected with trying to conceive I found the babycentre. I looked at the diet of a mother to be and found that it offered some good information, along with what and what not to eat. It also offered information for hopeful fathers. So I continued reading. Many good tips about what to eat to optimise fertility and aid conception, and any child ... more

Advantages Advantages Help for your pregnancy before, during and afterwards

Disadvantages Disadvantages Site can be daunting at first

It was by accident that I came across the babycentre website! I clicked on something on the screen and up came the babycentre. At the time I was trying for a baby and had a wee look about the site! I came across lots of information to do with trying to conceive, pregnancy and after the birth. It also has message boards where you can leave messages about something people have left a query about or if you have a query. When I found out I was pregnant in February 2002, I decided to pop on and looked at the board Trying to Conceive and notice a couple of other people had left messages saying they ... more

Advantages Advantages Loads of practical advice on pregnancy, birth and bringing up kids

    Disadvantages Disadvantages There aren't any!

There are hundreds of websites on the internet these days offering advice and information about pregnancy and child rearing, the best, in my opinion, is babycentre.co.uk the UK version of babycenter.com. Babycentre has 6 main areas, your Personal Page, Getting pregnant, Pregnancy, Baby, Toddler and Community. When you join Babycentre your personal page is automatically updated everytime you visit, giving you specific information for your particular stage of pregnancy or the age of your child. They'll also email you updates if you wish. The information sections have lots of online tools such as ... more

I’ve just been looking back at my older opinions and now I’m a little more experienced on Ciao, thought I would update and expand. One of the first things I did after finding out I was pregnant was to search the Internet for relevant sites. I'm an information fiend. I wanted to know anything and everything that the next 9 months was going to bring. Unfortunately, that's where most of the baby sites I found stop... but not Babycentre. From day one the information on the site has been absolutely fantastic and almost 3 years on I am still a regular visitor and contributor. I've got through the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages eye ache from too much reading ......

From the moment we decided that starting a family would be a good idea, where did I turn? of course to my friend the internet!! After a quick search I found babycentre.co.uk, a sister site to Babycenter.com , that was nearly 4 years ago and I have been back most days since. The first thing that I noticed was the simple and uncomplicated layout of the site, easy to look at and to follow. The site is split in to 4 main areas, Getting Pregnant, Pregnancy, Baby, Toddler and also a community area. Within 4 main areas you have a number of interactive tools, e.g., Ovulation Calculator, due date ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly support and info

Disadvantages Disadvantages Loads of posts to read and v addictive

I found babycenter when I was about 6 months pregnant with my little boy (now 6 months) and I have been addicted ever since! I used to spend ages reading the posts when I was pregnant. Now my little one is here I have much less time, but I still read as many as I can every day! The 'birth club', which is a forum for parents (although it does tend to be exclusivly Mums) of babies due or born in a specific month, is a great source of information as everyone is going through pretty much what you are! It does help you to keep your sanity to know that you are not the only one who ends up singing ... more

Advantages Advantages Site easy to follow, can chat to women at same stage as you

Disadvantages Disadvantages haven't found one yet

After finding out last week that I was pregnant for the second time i weas overjoyed. It is really hard when you find out your pregnant to keep it to yourself and partner you want to tell the world but you have that little voiced inside your head that says 'your nit safe till your 12 weeks pregnant'. Yes, obviously my parents wil know before then but i still want to tell my mates and work colleagues. Along comes babycentre with its message boards- you are directed to a message board that is dedicated to women with baby's due the same month as yourself. At last I could tell people, they don't ... more

Advantages Advantages Very helpful for new and seasoned mums

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Addictive :-)

The Easter bank holiday my clearblue finally turned blue, I had guessed i was pregnant as my body felt different. I was so excited but very worried as well, as every mum can be. I decided to surf the net for help as i had no idea of what to expect in pregnancy. I came across the wonderful site of babycentre. Not only did it have a program that worked out my due date ( hadn't seen a doctor at this point) but it also gave me a weekly update by email and also online of what my baby would look like and what it was doing at each weekly stage in the pregnancy. Also there where message boards for ... more
