Advantages Advantages No middleman means better odds. Low risk trading opportunities

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can take a little while to get your head round the exchange format

Or so goes the advertising slogan.Betfair is not a bookmaker but an exchange site. It is able to offer significantly better prices than traditional bookies as it is literally made up of Joe Public betting against each other. The other significant difference is that you can actually bet against, as well as for, something happening. It is modelled on the stock exchange and offers much wider options for the bettor. ‘Gambling’s for fools’. Old moleface may be correct with his immortal line from the Ace of Spades, but Betfair offers the option to trade at much lower risk than outright gambling ... more

Well my next review, is somewhat different to the one's I normally do, this review is more on a gambling theme, with a detailed review of one of the biggest online gambling sites , betfair.com. Ive been a strong and solid member of betfair for over a year now, and I would actually consider myself to be a solid pro gambler, in the sense that I have had some really big, big payouts. Hopefully this informative review, will educate people about the gabling site, how to register and how to make the most of gabling tips, whilst also aware them of the fact that gambling is addictive and that caution ... more

Advantages Advantages Set you own odds, more bets available, live betting right up to the last minute

Disadvantages Disadvantages High commission charges, fees for depositing money

This is my favourite website and also the one I use most often - almost everyday in fact. Betfair, as its name suggests, is a place where you can bet on various events but they are NOT a bookmaker. The concept of Betfair is quite unusual in that you bet against other punters rather than against the bookmaker. This is called "Exchange Betting". Of course, Betfair have to make money from this so any profits you make from your betting will incur 5% commission. This is a little high in my opinion. When I was using Flutter.com (another exchange betting website but now defunct) the commission was ... more

Advantages Advantages Being able to lay aswell as back.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Betfair.com is a player-to-player betting site where instead of pitting your wits against a bookmaker, you take on another punter. Betfair's role in the setup is to create a forum for these bets and their commision is about 5% of the winner's profits, but this can change to 3% dependant on how much you stake. The first thing you will notice when logging on to the site is just how smooth everything is: Betfair makes extensive use of Flash The home page is full of information and yet doesn't appear to be over cluttered, although sometimes annoyingly does not appear. On the left hand side you'll ... more

    Advantages Advantages Winning

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Losing

Betfair was launched in June 2000, and since has become the largest betting exchange on the internet. So what's a betting exchange and how does it differ to your average high street bookmakers? A betting exchange is where you bet against other people rather than directly against the bookmakers. Aside from Normal betting to "Win" what else is different..... - You can bet to "Lay" which means you are betting something to lose. - Betting "In play" which means you can bet on something in real time, whilst the event is taking place, meaning the odds are changing all the time. - Lay your bets in ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be a real bookmaker, good odds, bet on huge range of things, more in control than traditiondl punting

Disadvantages Disadvantages Site sometimes very slow and has bee known to crash at the wrong time, potential to lose a lot if you don't know what you're doing.

If my family saw what I was writing about they’d keel over! But yes, after 11 years of waiting for my Hubby to come out of the bookies or home from the race track I’ve finally joined in! Not, you understand in the smoky shop of the gale-blown gee-gee track but from the comfort of my own armchair using Betfair internet betting exchange. I’m somewhat reluctant to recommend this here since dabbling on a site such as betfair with only a little knowledge of the betting world could land you in debt (lot or little depending which buttons you press!). My advice before we start is to ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

So what is Betfair?? ------------------------------ Betfair is what is referred to as a peer-to-peer gaming exchange, which, in everyday speak means people can bet against each other, rather than against a specific bookmaker. Why would people want to bet against each other?? ------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- People may choose to use Betfair because invariably people offer each other considerably better odds than a standard bookmaker would. Playing the bookie is a role punters relish. Cmon there must be more to it than that ... more

Advantages Advantages Simple to use, better odds

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Addictive, potentially dangerous

It is only in recent years that I started to gamble, and that is down to the internet. It all started when In joint a 'rewards' site, www.greasypalm.co.uk', on which there were various online bookmakes such as Coral, Bet Fair, all of which were offering free bets (plus the greasy palm reward). Also featured were BetFair and online betting exchange. Now a betting exchange is more than just a book makers, it actually allows you to become a book maker yourself, and all of the money (won or lost) is from other gamblers (not a company such a Coral), with betfair making their money by taking a ... more

Advantages Advantages No bookie, Great odd's

Disadvantages Disadvantages Website not easy to use, Missing some of Flutter's better features, High commission to start with

I have started to use Betfair after the merger of Flutter.com with Betfair.com. Like Flutter it is another website where you bet against each other with no bookie, this means the odd's are far better. If you had a Flutter.com account they transfered you details and balance over to Betfair very smoothly. My first impressions of Betfair are quite good but its missing many of the features that had made great and easy to use. As I understand it Betfair are looking into using some of Flutter's better features in the near future. Some of the changes in Betfair compared to Flutter are very small but ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, Easy money to be made

Disadvantages Disadvantages You'll have to get used to the decimal odds

This review does not cover every minute detail of Betfair, just the essentials followed by a guide on what I do on Betfair every day. Now the majority of people in this country enjoy a flutter and I was no exception, that was until Betfair put me off gambling for life. No I place thousands of pounds worth of bets on Betfair everyday, so you may be thinking that I am gambling, but you could not be further from the truth...without wanting to sound like a Betfair advert, they have revolutionised the gaming industry (They launched in 2001). Later on in this review I will reveal some of the tips ... more
