Advantages Advantages Cheap, decent range, reasonable service, cheap, cheap!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some softback volumes, immediate debiting of credit cards.

We all have an Achilles Heel. Mine is books. My shelves are groaning. I like to own books, not borrow them. I just cannot help it. Still, I do not spend money on clothes and make up. I do not spend my weekends clubbing. So it is fine for me to buy books, books and more books, right? I buy a lot from Amazon; with vouchers I earn in various online, You Will Never Make A Fortune You Know activities. I like Amazon. It is like a nice pair of comfortable slippers – not too expensive, easy to navigate and always reliable. I buy a lot from PS Books – they are as cheap as chips and they sell books I ... more

Advantages Advantages Be the first with the hottest books

Disadvantages Disadvantages They drive my mum crazy with early morning deliveries

I have always considered myself a reader, but it was only when I left full-time education and began reading for pleasure that I started reading properly. I set several rules for myself at that point. 1. I will only read something that I want to read. This seems like a strange rule, but you would be amazed how many people try to lend you books once they know reading is one of your hobbies. (Sidebar Rant: Part of this rule means owning everything that I read rather than borrowing. I feel there is more of an investment if it has cost me time and money to purchase the book. It’s one of the main ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Read Opinion

Ok I am a strong supporter of Amazon, and had not found any real need to change my opinion, but I also had 135 I-points. Now you may or may not know but the value of these I-points is devaluing faster than the German Mark in the early 1930’s. The only logical thing I could think of was to cash them in as quickly as possible. Bol.com appeared to be the perfect candidate as I had a growing list of “ must read’s” from ciao opinions. The website at www.bol.com takes you to their international portal and requires you to click on the UK button. This brings you to the home ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to navigate and earn I points for every £10 you spend

Disadvantages Disadvantages delays in the preordering service

I signed up with I points way back in July and with loads of websites offering I points for shopping they caught my eye. Bol.com was one of these promising 50 I points for joining and a further 10 I points for every £10 spent on site. Well I had nothing to loose so I clicked on the bol.com symbol and it took me straight to the site. First I had to registar which was simplicity itself you just enter in your email address which you use for I points and a password. Takes about a few minutes and away I went. My first love is books and I had a few titles in mind that I wanted so I entered them into ... more

Advantages Advantages BIG discounts on certain books

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slowish delivery

This seems to be one of those ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ sites. I prefer to think of it like paracetamol. Very beneficial if used correctly. First up is the site itself. The layout is quite ‘busy’, but not over-crowded. At the very top of the page towards the right side are the main controls [Home – Basket – Your account – Contact us – Help – Login]. These also appear at the very bottom of the page with the addition of the ‘Privacy policy’. At the top left side is bol.com and their blue and white logo. Next are the, for want of a better word, folder headings [Bestsellers at 60% off – Bookstore – ... more

5 Stars BOL vs. AMAZON 13/10/2001
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Very Fast Delivery, Cheap, Easy to use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I am a student at Staffordshire University studying a Beng Software Engineering. We were told which books we would need to buy for reading material for the course. So, tuesday evening at around 9pm, I decided to use my fathers credit card and order the books that I need. I decided to buy a total of 4 books. I had a look at five different sources, 2 were high street bookshops(WHSmiths & Webleys), 1 was the university bookshop, and the other two were BOL.com and AMAZON.co.uk. I found that BOL.com and AMAZON.co.uk were considerably cheaper than their high street rivals. So, I investigated further ... more

Advantages Advantages Good selection of books, CDs, games, videos and DVD's

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough information

My mother has recently been diagnosed as being a diabetic and I decided that I wanted to get a cookery book in order to make her some cakes, biscuits etc. I looked first at Amazon, having already made a few purchases from their website and been pleased. The only ones I could see here were the ones that had 2 to 3 weeks delivery and, being an impatient sort of person, I wanted the book now. I then decided to take a look at www.uk.bol.com as I had seen the site advertised here and there on the Internet. It was easy enough to register with the site – just the usual questions, name, address ... more

    5 Stars Bargain Books! 10/08/2004
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Discounted prices, cheap or even free P&P

Disadvantages Disadvantages Membership required, limited selection of books

I have recently joined Bol as I used to be a member of "Escape Fiction" and also "Just Good Books". All of these websites seem to be by the same company although packaged differently to appeal to different people. Escape Fiction being more targeted to older female readers, Mango for younger female fiction, etc. Although all of these Book Clubs (including BOL) belong to the same company (BCA I believe) they all seem to have different rules for joining. For example, I joined Just Good Books and had to make a minimum order in the first year after receiving an opening offer of 5 books for 1p or ... more

Advantages Advantages Great website, wide range available, cheap, bargains

Disadvantages Disadvantages I'd heard some criticisms of the company beforehand

Bol.com seem to have a bit of a bad reputation. Only 57% of Dooyoo writers and 61% of Ciao writers recommend it. But there I was, all alone and nothing to spend my hard-earned 80 ipoints on, when I noticed the link to bol.com and thought I’d check it out. The ipoints page said that for 80 ipoints, you could get a book from bol.com up to the value of £5. Well, I love bargains and I love books, so my interest was piqued. But being the sceptic I am, I expected there to be a catch – I suspected a small range of awful titles available or a huge delivery charge. I was wrong. Before I let ... more

    5 Stars Bolly Good 12/04/2001
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Cheap, very quick delivery, extra ipoints

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit of confusion with ipoints

Shopping! I was attracted to this site by an e-mail from ipoints (I had visited Bol before but never had bought anything). It clearly stated that I could earn £5 back from £12 I spent with any of their advertisers (if I hadn't already purchased goods via any of the ipoints partners). Wow! So off I went with my credit card in my sticky paws to do some shopping! The actual e-mail is a bit misleading (although I'm trying not to make this an ipoints opinion, I feel it necessary to mention this). You don't actually get £5 back, you actually receive 80 ipoints - you can exchange these for a £5 high ... more
