What's Your Achilles Heel?

AdvantagesCheap, decent range, reasonable service, cheap, cheap!

DisadvantagesSome softback volumes, immediate debiting of credit cards.

" We all have an Achilles Heel. Mine is books. My shelves are groaning. I like to own books, not borrow them. I just cannot help it. Still, I do not spend money on clothes and make up. I do not spend my weekends clubbing. So it is fine for me to buy books, books and more books, right? I buy a lot from Amazon; with vouchers I earn in various online, You Will Never Make A Fortune You Know activities. I like Amazon. It is like a nice pair of comfortable ..." Read review

Right books, right prices Review with images

AdvantagesBe the first with the hottest books

DisadvantagesThey drive my mum crazy with early morning deliveries

"I have always considered myself a reader, but it was only when I left full-time education and began reading for pleasure that I started reading properly. I set several rules for myself at that point. 1. I will only read something that I want to read. This seems like a strange rule, but you would be amazed how many people try to lend you books once they know reading is one of your hobbies. (Sidebar Rant: Part of this rule means owning everything ..." Read review

Not a load of Bol...locks

AdvantagesRead Opinion

DisadvantagesRead Opinion

"Ok I am a strong supporter of Amazon, and had not found any real need to change my opinion, but I also had 135 I-points. Now you may or may not know but the value of these I-points is devaluing faster than the German Mark in the early 1930’s. The only logical thing I could think of was to cash them in as quickly as possible. Bol.com appeared to be the perfect candidate as I had a growing list of “ must read’s” from ciao opinions. ..." not total bol's

Advantageseasy to navigate and earn I points for every £10 you spend

Disadvantagesdelays in the preordering service

"I signed up with I points way back in July and with loads of websites offering I points for shopping they caught my eye. Bol.com was one of these promising 50 I points for joining and a further 10 I points for every £10 spent on site. Well I had nothing to loose so I clicked on the bol.com symbol and it took me straight to the site. First I had to registar which was simplicity itself you just enter in your email address which you use for I points ..." Read review

BOL-imey, THAT'S CHEAP.

AdvantagesBIG discounts on certain books

DisadvantagesSlowish delivery

"This seems to be one of those ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ sites. I prefer to think of it like paracetamol. Very beneficial if used correctly. First up is the site itself. The layout is quite ‘busy’, but not over-crowded. At the very top of the page towards the right side are the main controls [Home – Basket – Your account – Contact us – Help – Login]. These also appear at the very bottom of the page with the addition of the ‘Privacy policy’. At the ..." Read review

BOL vs. AMAZON

AdvantagesVery Fast Delivery, Cheap, Easy to use

Disadvantagesnone

"I am a student at Staffordshire University studying a Beng Software Engineering. We were told which books we would need to buy for reading material for the course. So, tuesday evening at around 9pm, I decided to use my fathers credit card and order the books that I need. I decided to buy a total of 4 books. I had a look at five different sources, 2 were high street bookshops(WHSmiths & Webleys), 1 was the university bookshop, and the other ..." Read review

Beware of the Americans

AdvantagesGood selection of books, CDs, games, videos and DVD's

DisadvantagesNot enough information

"My mother has recently been diagnosed as being a diabetic and I decided that I wanted to get a cookery book in order to make her some cakes, biscuits etc. I looked first at Amazon, having already made a few purchases from their website and been pleased. The only ones I could see here were the ones that had 2 to 3 weeks delivery and, being an impatient sort of person, I wanted the book now. I then decided to take a look at www.uk.bol.com as I ..." Bargain Books!

AdvantagesDiscounted prices, cheap or even free P&P

DisadvantagesMembership required, limited selection of books

"I have recently joined Bol as I used to be a member of "Escape Fiction" and also "Just Good Books". All of these websites seem to be by the same company although packaged differently to appeal to different people. Escape Fiction being more targeted to older female readers, Mango for younger female fiction, etc. Although all of these Book Clubs (including BOL) belong to the same company (BCA I believe) they all seem to have different rules for joining. For ..." Read review

FREE AND CHEAP...But Enough About Me

AdvantagesGreat website, wide range available, cheap, bargains

DisadvantagesI'd heard some criticisms of the company beforehand

"Bol.com seem to have a bit of a bad reputation. Only 57% of Dooyoo writers and 61% of Ciao writers recommend it. But there I was, all alone and nothing to spend my hard-earned 80 ipoints on, when I noticed the link to bol.com and thought I’d check it out. The ipoints page said that for 80 ipoints, you could get a book from bol.com up to the value of £5. Well, I love bargains and I love books, so my interest was piqued. But being the sceptic ..." Bolly Good

AdvantagesCheap, very quick delivery, extra ipoints

DisadvantagesBit of confusion with ipoints

"Shopping! I was attracted to this site by an e-mail from ipoints (I had visited Bol before but never had bought anything). It clearly stated that I could earn £5 back from £12 I spent with any of their advertisers (if I hadn't already purchased goods via any of the ipoints partners). Wow! So off I went with my credit card in my sticky paws to do some shopping! The actual e-mail is a bit misleading (although I'm trying not to make this an ipoints ..." Read review

Bol Locked Me Out

AdvantagesThe offer ipoints on purchases

DisadvantagesTerrible Customer service Department (if there is one)

" Sorry about the title, but this is the way I feel about this online company. The reasons for this will become obvious in this short rant of a review. BOL are a UK based book / CD / Video online store. Their selection is fine and their prices are probably on a par with MVC on the high street. So better than Virgin / HMV but that's not saying much, then you have postage and packing to consider. I must confess the reason for buying off the site ..." Read review

GET IT WITHIN 48 HOURS

Advantagesexcellent service

Disadvantagesprices aren't that different from high street

"BOL interrupted is Bertelsmann On-Line, and is an online store that sells books, DVD/videos, games, music and gifts. When you log onto the site it is fairly quick to load and is simple but effective, with tabs at the top of the page, which lead you to each of the departments. Alternatively, at the side of the page there are links to more direct categories. The front page has a search box, to search exactly for the item you want (providing you ..." Read review

Is bol bol--cks

Advantageswide selection, fast delivery

Disadvantagesnaughty with the opoints

"I discovered bol.com through ipoints. Bol sells a very wide choice of music, movies, games and books. It really does have something for everyone. The site is well designed. It is in various shades of blue on a white background, making it easy on the eye. You can read it without squinting, and it doesn't give you a headache with lurid bright colours or flashing/spinning text/images (my personal pet-hate). Navigation is simple. Click on the tab ..." Bol.com, Great bargains but limited choice.

AdvantagesExcellent prices, Friendly Service

DisadvantagesCustomer service can be vague in their responses

"Bol used to sell everything from books to music to videos but now they are specialising solely in books (although they link to a site called video’s direct for videos and DVDs). The range of books that they sell is quite limited although if they have what you want it will be at a bargain price. Although note that you do need to buy one more book within your first 6 months of becoming a member. Delivery is just £1 per book and FREE if you order ..." Read review
