Let demonic fortunes rise
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by

Advantages: An early warning system for the demise of HE
Disadvantages: Where do we start?
According to BBC News Online, this 'institution' has a drop out rate of 11% for the academic year 2001-02. The justification for this shockingly low figure is the classic Paxman motto: "I've started so I'll finish". Well, what have the non-drop-outs started? A programme of study that, if it was anything like my first year, is intellectually unstimulating, psychologically draining (though not in any positive sense of the word) and about as useful as ...

Review of de Montfort University Leicester by

Advantages: culturally diverse, friendly staff, campus is in one area
Disadvantages: Although culturally diverse (Leicester) a sense of isolation can be felt
...year i would definately recommend De Montfort University as i know many others who have gone to the elite universities yes the top two- and have hated it. A BIG thumbs up I think!!!

Get D M Used to it!!
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
wednesdayrobyn
Advantages: Great for art courses, great halls, great nightlife, located in a good central city with good links
Disadvantages: Poor selections of postgrad courses, some halls suck! (grange court)
...second year of study of de Montfrot university and am about to complete my third and final year!
-The location-
de Montfort is located in Leicester very near the city centre. It's an excellent location a 5 min walk to the shops and bars in the city centre, 10 mins to the train station that has very regular trains to London and most other locations which are fairly cheap.
The actual university is compact and everything is located together ...

Review of de Montfort University Leicester by

Advantages: Close to services / city centre

De montfort university leicester - My first and only uni
After 2 full years at de montfort university leicester, i can say that i am satisfied that it was a good choice for me.
It may not be the best university on paper, or even physically, but i find it very good.
I am studying for a BSc Business Information Systems and am really enjoying the course. The IT department is very good, with access to PC and Unix labs very readily available. At ...

Do U need this Uni
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
Sbanshee
Advantages: Central location and cheap cost of living
Disadvantages: Accommodation tight if not booked early
INTRODUCTION
*************
This is an extensive opinion and I will dwell here sufficient to say the University is named after Simon DeMontfort, a rebellious Leicester Earl, switching from Leicester Polytechnic around 1990. As a polytechnic in the 1960-70`s smaller rock groups frequently played within the halls, but alas no more.
LOCATION

Excellent - in parts
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
merlina
Advantages: some excellennt courses; many lecturers are world experts
Disadvantages: some courses are pretty naff - be careful
The trouble with writing a review of a University is that there really is no homogenous whole - a university is merely the sum of its parts. Another reviewer said this University was pretty dire - but that wasn't my experience at all. Having said that I was undertaking a completely different subject area. My experience of DMU is that it has some excellent faculties - and some that are definitely wanting. Drawing on my own experience, and that of friends ...

Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
AJWalker
Advantages: This diet will introduce you to all aspects of new media. Most of the lecturers are great people.
Disadvantages: The way the course is run leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the lecturers have little experience in the industry.
Media Technology BSc
Going to Uni was never on the cards for me but in the final year of college I thought I might as well look at the options available, 'just in case'. After much investigation into what I wanted to do I came across the prospectus for Demontfort University and flipped to the Media section. The layout of the course and the time tabled lectures and so on fitted what I wanted exactly. I knew I could do it because we had already done ...

ne of the best in the country
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
mrswombat
Advantages: brilliant employment rate, interesting course
Disadvantages: lack of help with funding
This may be a little eclectic for this site, but I know quite a few people who totally rave about this course, so it's probably worth reviewing. There are so many total rip-off journalism courses out there too, that it's good to see one which actually delivers what it promises. This is accredited by the NCTJ and perhaps the most significant thing is that it has just about a 100 per cent employment rate - everyone who gets on the course (afaik) gets ...

Dire Mediocre University - DO NOT GO THERE
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
TruthBeKnown
Advantages: wasting three years of your life
Disadvantages: The staff...
I never thought that my time at University would make me depressed to the point of suicide....
Like another reviewer on this site I to would have to say that DMU Leicester has been the worst experience of my life and I do not say this lightly.
I undertook law through 2004-2007 and chose DMU as they (apparently) offered a wide variety of law classes options I obtained A,B,B for my A-Levels.
Like the other reviewer who experienced a bad time ...

THE GENTLE GIANT
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
simsanator
Advantages: GREAT SPIRIT
Disadvantages: scenery
DMU is the biggest uni in england but a very nice place to attend. I am going into my third year now and have enjoyed every second of it, I play in the football and cricket teams, and get involved with many of the activities that go on around the city campus. The people at DMU are great and if you get yourself out there you get to know so many great people. Last year I managed a football team which helped me as a person as well as meeting new and ...

Worst experience of my life...............
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
Rumble1
Advantages: Central
Disadvantages: Teacher quality, the course..........
I have to start off by saying DMU Leicester has been one of the worst experiences of my life. That includes all three years (2004-2007).
I live in Leicester but I really did not want to come to this uni. My financial circumstances meant that this was my only other option.
I studied on the LLB Law course having got an A in A Level law.
As far as the teaching quality goes I found that a number of staff were not interested in helping the students ...

My time at DMU
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
HarryDog
Advantages: One of the most friendly unis
Disadvantages: It can be looked down upon by the red-bricks
I am a third-year LLB law student at DMU Leicester, and although you may say I should be striving with my courseworks, I have just done a load of work and think I deserve a break!
I can only give you an overview of the uni outside my course, and that I shall provide first. The location is pretty good, nice and close to the centre of town for frequent shops and dining occasions. The local people are also pretty friendly (unlike some towns such as ...

DMU...
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
si_gk
Advantages: Leicester is not that bad really.
Disadvantages: Winter (its damn cold and windy)
DMU is one of the large Universitys, with something like 18,000 students in Leicester. This is both good and bad. It means they can provide some really good facilities, such as the libaray (a new students union... if it ever gets built) some good and up to date IT facilities and other such wonders. However from my experience the, management is pants. The Computing Science faculty may have its share of excellent and not so excellent lectures and tutors, ...

A Step in the Right Direction
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
clover123
Advantages: Close to city and cheap to live.
Disadvantages: Reputation.
After graduating from DMU last summer, I have now had over half a year to reflect back on my experience. I was living at Kingsfisher Court which was newly built when I arrived there in September 2003. My faculty building(Clephan) was situated just at the end of the road from here so this was perfect for me. In terms of location, DMU has it all. It is only a 5 minute walk into town from the main campus. The halls are situated with a maximum of 10 mins ...

Can I get in with a playgroup qualification
Review of de Montfort University Leicester by
rjs26
Advantages: comfortable, friendly, good library
Disadvantages: you have to cross over roads
I have started BSC Engineering this year at DeMontfort University having choosen not to continue with my degree a mile up the road at Leicester Uni.
Having scraped through a tough first year at Leicester uni, I left to start again at DeMontfort though illness.
The initial opinion was that the uni was far more modern than Leicester (not difficult) and far more friendly (hard not to be.)
Despite what the heirachy may say the academic level of the ...
