    Being an avid fan of music, both new and that stemming for the 90’s and 80’s, I am always on the net, looking for information, news, fansites, lyrics and whatever else may take my fancy about whichever band’s in my CD player. Of course there are more traditional methods to access music information, the most notable of this is the printed version of NME, out every Wednesday. Problem is, by Thursday, things have changed in the music world, and you need an instant music news fix!! NME.com is a good comprehensive site, but I do visit dotmusic.com from time to time too – the focus of my review here ... more

    Advantages Advantages Easily navigable and dressed up in funky oranges and purples, this site looks good and has all the features you want from a music site

    Disadvantages Disadvantages worldpop is just as good!

    I only ever visit two music sites on the internet : dotmusic and worldpop. Since Ciao seem to have neglected worldpop.com, even though it is the official sponsor of the UK singles charts!! *nudges ciao fat cats to sort themselves out :)* So anyway, onto the wonderfully simplistic and enjoyable experience that is visiting the dotmusic website. Hailed as the most popular music website in Europe, it isn't hard to see why, especially since it has been re-vamped with a cooler and ultimately easier to navigate layout.     I discovered dotmusic in late 1998, whilst performing a search for some comprehensive music websites. What a blessing i did! Dotmusic is probably the best music website around, on the homepage, there are many options. Firstly, there are the main music news stories of the day, which you can look at in detail. Dot are always the first to any major stories in the world of music and their reports are of the highest accuracy.     Voted Europe’s best music web site and it is clear to see why. When you first ever log on to dotmusic.com you are presented with a simple home page with all the necessary links and a few advertisements that obviously help to maintain the site. The site is not like most other sites and supported by frames, every time you click on a link it takes you to a brand new page, however, this can sometimes be very slow and is one of the very few down sides to dotmusic.com I have came across.     I first logged on dotmusic.com after seeing the adverts for it the whole time on TV. I thought to myself, why not go and have a look. So I did. I have to say I am very impressed with their site it has all the latest music you would really want to know, including charts, news interviews and lots more.     Over the last year or so, there has been one site which I have visited far more times than any other.. this site being dotmusic. It offers almost everything to the music lover, from news, to charts to a quiz. The range of music news presented is more widely ranged than almost any other site.. whether you are a fan of A1 or Metallica, dotmusic is sure to keep you well updated.     Dotmusic is a website that is literally packed with music content. Your presented with a few main categories to start with, but all these categories have a huge base of content inside them and the topics covered are covered in depth and are written and displayed well. The main categories are: News, Charts, Artists, Reviews, Live, Dance, Community & Shop. If you click on Charts, you will be presented with a load of different charts covering a very wide range of music, so you can keep up to date on the charts in whatever music taste you want to.     This is the sister publication of Music Week, the magazine aimed at the industry, although Dotmusic takes on a different style of aproach and aims itself more at the music fan. Theres alot that could be improved on this site, the news only updates during office hours (or so it would seem) and even then only covers 10 or so stories a day, this is a pain because most music fans use the net in the evening when they've heard about the news from other sources.     www.dotmusic.com is everything that I could ever want in a UK popular music site. It always has the latest news stories and gossips, the top 75 albums and singles of the week, and as well as all of that, contains webchats and interviews, not to mention all of the pages on the artists you can find on there as well. The site really has been an excellent resource for music news for me. I use it every day to find out about what is going on in the world of music.     since dot music was launched i have visted it regualley. It's definitely the best music site on the net and has outstanding lyrics. Originally I liked it because there were loads of different charts and I liked the commentary written about the charts. The layout of the website is pretty easy to navigate - I like the way the site is clearly segreatetd into reviews, charts and news by music genre. There has been a tendency for the site to have gossippy stuff in the new but this seems to have abated lately, which is a good thing.
