    Advantages Advantages Great for people who rent/watch more than 4 films a month, Efficient Service, Clear site navigation, Freedom to cancel subscription at any time

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Delay in getting new titles, lack of some major DVDs, not really for occasional renters, Credit/Debit Card payment only

    As most of you may know, I’m a big movie fan. I don’t think I could spend a week without watching at least a couple of movies. I’m the Cinema and Video stores favourite type of customer. Not so much for Sky Digital as I like to see films when I want to and not when they are shown on television about 2 years later. As with most people, I always tend to go to the cinema to see films I really want to see or if they are big budget special effect type films where seeing it on a small screen really doesn’t do it any justice (Lord of the Rings or The Matrix?).     ~ Introduction ~ I first heard about “dvdsontap.com” after reading a fine review here on Ciao, now I must give credit where it is due, so thanks very much Graham (GrDesign).     -: Introduction :- There are times when in life when the pure genius of a simple concept can leave you breathless at it’s brilliance …and then kicking yourself that you weren’t the one who’d thought of it and actually carried it off. www.dvdsontap.com is a perfect example of this. Flying in the face of conventional rental wisdom that demands each movie rented should incur a charge, the boys and girls at dvdsontap have done away with this outdated idea instead charging a monthly fee for unlimited rentals (well, subject to certain conditions.)     Review updated 23/06/2003 - I have now been a member for over 6 months and after a few teething problems I would say this service is excellent. I pay £8 a month plus the 27p postage to send back a DVD. On average I get about 5 DVDs a month which works out at less than £2 per DVD. Plus I dont have to drag myself out of the house to take a DVD back to the video shop, I can just post the DVD on my way to work. Ok I dont always get my first choice DVD and sometimes it can take up to 5 days to receive a DVD but on the whole the service has improved and on average you can get a new DVD 3 - 4 days ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very cheap compared to rental stores, price plans to suit you, you can keep them as long as you want.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages If you rent 1 dvd at a time it takes 2 days for another one to arrive.

    I came across dvdsontap.com when I was quite new to the Internet. I was quite surprised to see DVD rental sites and wanted to know more. After I checked out a few of the sites that offer dvd rental I decided I wanted to subscribe and receive dvds directly to my door. I decided that dvdsontap was the one for me.     Chances are if you like your DVD’s like I do, you will find yourself spending quite a it of money on building up your precious DVD collection. You will also find yourself regularly spending £3.00 or more on DVD rentals. Well why spend al this money when you can get things cheaper elsewhere…and more to the point, these DVD’s are bought to you! Yes, I’m talking about renting DVD’s online.     The Good I'll start off on a positive note. I discovered DVDs On Tap a few months ago, and being a big film and DVD fan was over the moon to find a service seemingly tailor made for me! It all went well for the first couple of months, and I saw many films that I had wanted to see for ages, but hadn't gotten around to. The thing that impressed me most was the promptness of service. If you return a DVD on Monday, you should have your next one by Wednesday (great for me, terrible for my girlfriend, who soon got DVD overload!).     Now been a member for over 6 months. and would say im about 70% pleased with the service and am currently looking for other similar services to try. The service is operated through there website at www.dvdsontap.co.uk Its of a fairly simple lay out, with details of popular films, new additions your rental queue and any FAQ's you may have. You can either view the films by title, rating, or even split into different catergories.     Signed up for the much talked about company, and I received my first DVD. Thought that it was a great service, until the DVD decided not to let my DVD read when it comes to several parts of the movie! Frustrated as that can be, I managed to finished the movie, by using the remote control, and scanning to the bits where it is not affected! Forgiving as I am, it must be a one off I said to myself. Sent the DVD back, received an email saying that my next DVD is on its way. Whoa! Fast service, but hang on, they are sending the same title I had to me again!     Disadvantages Disadvantages 5 day cycle, nasty urprise for final charge

    This opinion is based on the the experience of 3 ex members of DVDSONTAP, over 2 months membership. All 3 moved to other on line rental. 1. The selection is good. 2. If the disk is faulty then dvdsontap say they will add 3 days to your membership. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. In any case it is less then the actual 5 day cycle. 3. When reporting a lost-in-the-post disk it is hard to get your money back. 4. When you want to cancel then you have to prepare it at least 7 days in advance, else another disk will be sent out and you will be charged. 5. You have no control over the billing ... more
