Advantages: Free fax number, no need to have a dedicated fax line Disadvantages: None
eFax.com is definately the best free fax to e-mail service around today. I presently have two free fax numbers with them. One is a USA fax number and one is a UK fax number. Since I do business with some companies in the States it works out cheaper for them to send me faxes on a local USA fax number. They are incredibly fast. Just to test it out I sent a fax to my own number and checked my e-mail after just 30 seconds and presto it was in my Inbox. ... ...their site. Another plus point is that you can send this fax as an e-mail to others or save as a file just at the click of a button. If the person your sending the fax to my e-mail has the software then you send the message as it is. If they don't then you send it with the viewer. It gives you both options. They have many other features such as page zoom, document flip etc etc. I have been using this service for two years now and have received hundred's ...

Advantages: Free - Easy - Quick - Reliable Disadvantages: Requires a 380k download to read faxes
...machine.
Using the simple eFax Messenger software (380k free download), the fax can be read on screen or printed out to hard copy – no more thermal paper to worry about! The fax can be zoomed in and out, rotated (why do some people insist of faxing stuff upside down?) and stored as thumbnails for easy filing.
The service is completely free for 0870 numbers, although, for a monthly fee of $9.95 you can have a local rate 0845 fax number instead ... ...Sending faxes to your free eFax is cheaper than sending to many stand-alone fax machines as the modem speed is faster.
eFax can also be set up (optionally) as a telephone answering machine – now quaintly known as “voice mail”.
There are obvious advantages to using this free service:
! No need to buy a fax machine
! No need to free up a line for incoming faxes
! No cost
! Receive faxes anywhere that has Internet access
! Print ...

Advantages: Great service... and still FREE! Disadvantages: Need to use a proprietary viewer program
...faxes. These are received by eFax and then forwarded to you as an email attachment. As well as the obvious advantage of not needing to buy a fax machine this also means that you don’t need to pay for a dedicated fax line and you can receive your faxes anywhere you can collect your emails (almost – see a bit later).
And what does that cost?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
eFax.com offer a number of differently priced services depending on the telephone number ... ...the service of choice is eFax Free. Funnily enough this is free but with limited facilities (what do you want for the price?). The free service allows receipt only, that is, you can’t send faxes via web/email. This may seem like a major restriction but remember that if you have a modem on your PC then you can send a fax directly anyway (let’s not get obsessed with the technology). The free service also does not allow the user to specify a local number, ...
Yes, its really true. If you have an e-mail account you can also benefit from a fax facility.
All you need to do is sign up with www.yac.com. They will give you a free number - starting 0709 - (and which can also be used for voice calls and an answering service) which can be used for faxes. Your received faxes are sent on to you by e-mail and appear in a .tif file for you to save or print.
The cost of sending faxes is not too high - about the same ... ...One of the real beauties is that your fax is available 24/7/365 - no need for an extra line!
If you have a fax driver for your PC's modem and a scanner you can completely dispense with the need for a fax machine.
I have used the system for several months now and have found it to be excellent. Is this the end of fax machines and jamming paper? ...
Advantages: A fantastic and FREE service. Very useful. Disadvantages: None, I really like it!
...as an email with an efax attachment, the reader software contains a micro advert on the splash page. All very usable, indeed I rarely receive faxes on the fax machine now.
The biggest advantage is being able to forward faxes (as the attachment) in an email. Of course your recipient needs the viewer too!
I have found that faxes are forwarded within minutes of sending. Try a test fax to yourself.
There are lots of extra features like SMS notification, ...
Advantages: Local international numbers, send and receive by email, online storage Disadvantages: Hours' delays in sending, not able to send or receive.
I subscribed eFax Plus service for my small business for two years. I used it for the occasional documents that I had to send to my mom's shop (she doesn't use computers so email was not an option), and for the few contracts that were faxed by suppliers instead of scanned and emailed.
The first year or so, the eFax service was working fine. I had a very low volume of fax traffic, say less than 30 pages in & out.
Sometimes it happened, that after ... ...Her sending faxes to my eFax number were often unsuccessful, as well, for "number busy" etc.
The problems occurred not only between my PC and my mom's fax, but when I had to fax something urgent to suppliers etc.
I had contacted eFax support for help, but they could not solve the problem. They said they had tried to call the receiving fax number, but "there was no answer".
A few times I had to go out and send an urgent fax from a convenience store, ...
The following day, eFax closed the account without any advance notification or warning (I now know that I made a mistake typing the billing zip code of my credit card and that this set off a "fraud alert" in their billing department). When I called to find out why the account had been suddently closed without so much as an email telling me of such, I discovered the eFax "customer service" call center has been farmed off to India. All told, eFax places little value on the customer experience and has made no commitment whatsoever to treating customers with dignity and respect. They don't deserve your business. ...
Quick review of eFax
Did not have a positive impression over the few days I was a member. Joining was straightforward and the service looks good in principle. I sent one fax as a test and it never arrived despite an OK on the transmitting fax machine. I tried to find out why but there is no email support and their telephone number in Dublin just went into a loop with no way of getting a human response.
There is no email address given to unsubscribe. I found a number in the UK and cancelled. Confirmation arrived the next day.
In short, unreliable service with no email support. ...
Advantages: None Disadvantages: BBB has allocated an "F" rating.
...Check California's BBB which gives eFax an "F" rating due to complaints against them. I wish I had.
At some point days into my "free 30 day trial" period eFax apparently cancelled my account without notification. I had received one or two test faxes I'd sent myself before traveling abroad. When I discovered I was not getting faxes (thanks to a client who was unable to send a document), eFax told me my credit card information had been added incorrectly, ... ...did not work. Their "HELP" page link is completely empty. This, from a company specializing in online Faxing.
So far, eFax didn't get anything financially from this exchange, but the waste of time and aggravation of the experience, combined with the BBB rating, is enough to advise extreme caution. ...
Advantages: No fax machine Disadvantages: Expensive, often fails to send and useless customer service
I admit I am a little biased in this case... I have just been charged £12 for faxing 9 pages. However I feel justified in this because I don't want other people to get ripped off in the same way I did.
Beware their "free trials", while they waive their subscription and join up fee for the duration of the month they still charge you for the faxes and they assume a rate of 60seconds per fax... Ok, fine so far. However, owing to general incompetancy ... ...the best part of half an hour to send my 9 pages (which were just plain text- no special graphics) and hence they have decided to charge so highly.
On contacting them about this I was dealt with by someone who appeared to have been given a 12-line script to go through. Ask him anything out of the ordinary and he couldn't deal with it.
The only advantage of this system is that you don't need your own fax machine but I'd say that given that the fax ...
...them.
I find the efax software clumsy to use - the worst part is that I cannot edit out large black patches or save any changes. ie if you turn the page over so you can read it, when you close the file it says 'save changes?' I click yes, but its still upside down next time I open the file.
However this is a small gripe... the main 2 problems are:
1. they are hard to contact, and difficult to deal with when you have. The email contacts will try ... ...good if you live in the UK.
2. I receive a lot of faxes so I had to sign up for the full service at £7.50 month. I started to have problems with the service (clients could not always send their faxes) and this is where it all went wrong. They will not cancel my service as they insist it is 'free'. I am having to post my credit card bills to california to prove that the charges are going out. I am also cancelling my credit card.
Maybe use the free ...
...I have just been informed eFax have taken over Faxmenow, and I can keep my number for £75 + VAT per year or have their free account BUT WITH A NEW NUMBER!
I only receieve a few per year, and thats to email. What a rip off.
