Do not join this bookclub

Advantages: none unless you like hassle
Disadvantages: books are not best price -they will hassle you to buy

I would not reccommend you join this club or any other associated bookclub owned by Book Club Associates (BCA).The initial offer seems attractive (3 books for £1 each) and according to the website there is no further commitment to buy. But after that you find that the prices for further books are not cheaper than other web booksellers, and worse, despite the 'no commitment' offer, when you don't order further books they threaten to charge you the ...
...to get me to pay 'penalty charge' of £70.) Also you have to keep refusing the monthly 'recommended book' otherwise it turns up unsolicited on you doorstep. It has taken me 8 months of complaints to get them to remove the penalty charge and that only happened after I wrote to my MP. Reccommend that before joining you read the many complaints about them at : http://www.britishcompanies.co.uk/seriouscomplaints.htm ...

Book Club in Swindon? Phone India!

Advantages: You get to spend a long time on the phone to them
Disadvantages: They're staffed by dishonest delinquents

My experience of ETSP seems not entirely different from another ciao member. I was sent books I didn't order in April, I tried to use their collection service after a very long await on the 'customer service line' and was promised that I would not be charged and books collected shortly. I was then sent a bill for the books. So I phoned up had to the same conversation again and was promised the same thing. It's now August. I've had the same conversation ...
...concerned and promptly done nothing. I then asked what the return address was and posted then back myself (at a cost of almost £5) with a covering letter etc.,…. I've today received a letter telling me, my account is being referred to Debt Collection Agency. Obviously I phoned … what else can I do? I was told that this is 3rd record of me phoning...(???) and 'that something should have been done'. Great. I now have to complete a 'Claim form' ...

A seemingly indifferent attitude towards customers

Advantages: none so far
Disadvantages: very slow reply, giving a feeling that they don't care for customers

Etsp.co.uk gives you a first introductory offer - which is very attractive. That's why I signed up. I waited and waited, and no books were sent to me. I wrote them a few times, but no reply. Instead, a few weeks later, I received their letter asking me to pay for the delivery charge, even though I still received no books at this stage. 4 months passed, and I gave up the hope of receiving the books, and of receiving their reply. And suddenly another ...

etsp send you items you never want

Advantages: good initial service
Disadvantages: then it all goes downhill

I signed up to etsp last year after seeing three books at 99p each with essentially no catch. They advertise this in many magazines (i.e. Time). From what I know you normally wait several weeks before any item you have ordered arrives. The biggest weakness with etsp is that they send you items because you did not decline them. This system is absurd. I asked for my account to be closed in January 2004, and yet they still have not. They sent me a ...
...I never ordered, wanted,or should have received, they cannot close my account. I think the 4 months in between me asking for my account to be closed and them sending me packages should be enough for them to be in the wrong. However, contacting them is impossible. They send you letters, but don't reply to yours. They don't reply to your emails either, and their phone service is just an annoying voice repeating information you already know and giving ...

Help they've got me

Advantages: Excellent Joining Offer
Disadvantages: Let Me Out of Here

...later, a letter arrives. eTSP.co.uk - a letter saying I have no outstanding balance and some brochures. Not a problem... straight in the bin. Next month, a letter arrives, and a book?! eTSP.co.uk - outstanding balance £7.29! On closer inspection there is an editors choice, which you have to opt out of each month or you automatically receive the book, darn! So anyway, I thought my mistake, should be easy to rectify. Ring up the customer service ...
...After about half an hour of pressing buttons it tells me that the automic service is having technical difficulties and now I have speak to a real person. Within 30 seconds of speaking to the person I had done the following: found out that although the service has no commitments they do ask you receive 6 months of magazines, so I asked to send back the editors choice, and then closed my account. Finished? No, they picked up the book, no problems. ...

ukpcdaz on ETSP

Advantages: Cheap books, great introductory offer, no commitment
Disadvantages: small selection of books

I was first attracted to ETSP, when I became a member of tradedoubler some years ago. E-TSP is the electronic (hence, E) version of The Softback preview company, which has been around for years! I was particularly attracted to the "no commitment" plea, they had, to be on the safe side - i read all the small print, and yes - it seemed ok. I ordered my books, two weeks later they arrived. Very quick! I saw that the recommended title looked quite ...
...for it to arrive, 3 weeks later, it came. I must admit, I very seldom order books from them, but that is because they have a very shallow range. Although, the books I have bought were very cheap, and very good. For example, I recently bought all six of the Lord of the rings books (yes, there are actually six books, not the three that people think!!) at £6.99 for all of them. The day after, I saw in Waterstones that they were charging £7.99 per book!! ...

ESTP...... Having joined TSP on 20/04/02 before I researched the company I was looking forward to my books.. The Introductory offer of 3 books for £1 each was most alluring..the choice was not great but I found 3 books which interested me greatly and so I looked into it further.... I could get my books "At no commitment to buy another book ever" and "Postage and Packing at £2.99 no matter how many you order" sure beat Amazon...seemed to have the ...
...I Looked a little deeper and BCA, big name in the book market...Book Club Associates, are behind the deal... Online ordering...no payment until you get the invoice then you can pay online or by telephone or post... I felt like a trout in a river with no food and then a juicy worm appeared with a shiny thing hanging out it's mouth and I'm hooked....I Sign/Type up.... And then the fun begins.... THREE QUID THREE BOOKS THREE MONTHS LATER...

Advantages: Cheap, good range, no commitment to buy
Disadvantages: Is there anybody out there????

One of the things that I hate about most music or book mail order clubs is the commitment that you have to sign up to. Those introductory always seem very appealing, until you read the small print and realise that you have to buy a certain number of (full price) products within a certain period of time. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to learn about The Softback Preview – a book club complete with discounted introductory offers – ...
...to say, I signed on the dotted line and waited for my books to arrive. Since then, my experiences have been “mixed” to say the least. Who Are The Soft Back Preview? ====================== The Soft Back Preview is a book club administered by BCA – an established mail order company based in Swindon. Most book clubs that are in operation today (e.g. Mystery and Thriller Guild) are affiliated with this company, and whilst the basic ...

eTSP.co.uk - not much of a bookclub in my books

Advantages: Great introductory offer
Disadvantages: Extremely poor and unprofessional customer service

I recently joined this bookclub after coming across a very tempting introductory offer, namely, order any three books for £1.00 each (not including P&P). Before joining, I searched in vein for the "small print" which usually states how many books you have to buy during the "minimum membership period". Well, there are no minimum number of books to buy with this book club! Impressed, I sent off for my three books which arrived soon after. This is a ...
...deal with fiction book matter, more on historical, internet related, informative type books, but there is usually something there that can interest most people so finding books you like shouldn't be too much of a problem. Unfortunately this is where my praise finishes. Unfortunately what starts out to be a positive experience, ends in complete frustration because of the incredibly bad customer service that I have received. I was sent books that ...

Worth The Wait

Advantages: good introductory offer
Disadvantages: long wait for delivery, have to remember to refuse the recommended title

After receiving emails from Ipoints telling me about TSP’s introductory offer I decided I would take a look. TSP stands for The Softback Preview. They offer books that are the same as the hard cover versions but the hard cover is replaced with a durable softback cover. They also claim that the softback books they offer are not available in paperback anywhere else in the UK and that TSP originals are unavailable anywhere, in any format, in ...
...It is in exactly the same format as World Books and Just Good Books. It showed clear details of the introductory offer, 3 books for £1 each and no commitment to buy other books. Also available, if you want to include it in your order, is a free Document Case. Along the left-hand side of the page there are the book catergories, these include, History Science Reference Health and Self Health Fiction Literature and Language Erotica There are ...

The Soft in the Head Preview

Advantages: i got 500 my points
Disadvantages: ignore people, take ages to do anything

I got referred to this site from My Points and thought that it was brilliant. That was before I read the small print and actually ordered something. I thought that it would be easy and I would get 3 books for £3 plus 500 My Points. The only thing I was really happy with was the points. My first order arrived and the books were not what I expected so I e-mailed tsp from their website requesting details on how to return them. They sent me out a White ...
...Strange I thought but I parcelled up my books and waited for white arrow to arrive. About a week later they actually arrived and I sent off my books. After a week I wondered why the books were still on my account but though nothing of it. Two weeks and then three weeks went by before I got annoyed as I wanted to order a different set of 3 books for £3. I e-mailed them again and was told that I had to fill in a little questionnaire about when the ...

Three Books Three Quid No Commitment No Service

Advantages: Good Introductory Offer
Disadvantages: Everything Else

This op was “inspired” if that’s the right word to use, by “The Love Cats’” excelent op on the same subject. My girlfriend and I joined ETSP to take advantage of the introductory offer and get the seventy Ipoints for joining. A book club with no commitment to buy excellent. What more could you want when they includes such gems as Simon Schama’s History of Britain for a quid although they are called The Softback Preview” they do have some hardback ...
...well as the standard form filling snail mail option. So far so good. My girlfriend got her books and I got two of mine with a twenty pound voucher explaining that one of my choices was out of stock. In the catalogue was Phillip Pulman’s “His Dark Materials” Trilogy for 19.97 GBP, I thought that’ll do nicely please. The trilogy duly arrived and everything seemed to be going well. Great choice, quality and value

Advantages: Online ordering without online paying
Disadvantages: Delivery can be slow

If you are looking for great value books then this is certainly one of the best sites about. e-TSP offer a good range of quality books at a really affordable price, they offer you free home approval so you can actually see what you have ordered before you pay for them, so if you are a bit worried about ordering online this is a great way to get books, without having to give your credit card details online.
