I signed up for Excite email predominantly to handle form-processing from my website. I thought it was best to keep it separate from my home email account, as it was likely I might change that sometime in the future. Advantages: Quick, simple, efficient and easy to access. Whether you require to recieve your email, or to play on loopy lips, you will enjoy the service.
Disadvantages: None to knowledge.

In many ways excite is like yahoo, except excite has a lot more to offer and the service is a lot less formal and more fun for you who have the 'child' streak in you. I chose to use this web based email system a few years ago. Even using it from abroad was fine. It does tend to be slow sometimes but is very reliable. The positive feature is that it is free and easy to set up. The only problem is getting a user name which suits you, as most user names are taken. Five years ago, when I first joined Excite for their free webmail service, it was because I could get the user name that I wanted, not the alphanumeric mess that Hotmail (even before it was Micro$oft) suggested. Advantages: 'Inbox hub' is an intuitive interface, with helpful links to related services. Also, quite good storage capacity.
Disadvantages: Attachments are slow and server crashes are frequent. My account was hacked once; poor security and no inbox filtering or spam preventors.

...and Yahoo. I was an excite.com inbox user for over a year, and have since switched to a hotmail account because of the appauling reliability of the service. Having enjoyed Excite for so long, I did try hard to stay with them, though eventually I just had to give up. Having signed up for an excite e-mail account over a year ago (the sign-up process was incidentally quite slow), initially I was quite pleased, it was free, reasonably fast, the site was quite easy to navigate, and I'd had no major problems. Excite is the best e-mail service not from an ISP around. It has a brilliant homepage, which has links to all sorts of things such as shopping, entertainment, news, and sport. It has a great search engine and you can even personalise your inbox and homepage. It has everything on it. It is very quick to load up so I never get frustrated by it. I chose excite for my free web-based email because it was a name I had already heard of and trusted since it is a big company. The name I wanted was available, unlike on hotmail.com where you have to compete with many millions of people for the username you want. Excite.com/.co.uk are an absolutly massive internet company. They are well known throughout the world and they do have some good services such as the chat facility and a fairly decent search engine, but for some reason their email service lacks something. I’ve been a user of EXCITE’s email service for most of my ‘internet life’. It doesn’t offer as much, in way of tools such as Hotmail’s and MSN’s Messenger service, doesn’t have as many subscribers. Excite.com has a security flaw in that it allows remote calls to its cgi's and this in turn affects user settings. Try it for yourself by viewing the source to their "Update profile" page and copying it into your Geocities account.
