    For those who are unfamiliar with Family Search website, its purpose is to provide genealogical information and on visiting the site, visitors will see the text "Free Family History, Family Tree, and Genealogy Records and Resources from Around the World" prominently displayed in mixed-case navy blue storybook-style text and this factor is one of the most impressive - and, dare I suggest, noble? - features of Family Search.     I began researching my family history many years ago. In fact even at the age of 12 or 13 I had an interest in the subject and prised as much information as I could from my Grandmother about her Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins etc. When I decided to research my family tree properly ten years later the information that I had scribbled inside my notebook was of paramount importance and formed the basis of my research.     When a friend came around, quite excited that she had managed to locate a few of her family members by using the internet, I was quite intrigued. Yes, you hear about it but do site like familysearch.org actually work. Is there database large enough to actually find family members? Incidentally, her surname was Smith, which makes this even more remarkable. Just imagine how many Smith's there are and have been. So, this was a remarkable success story.     I remeber a few years ago when we first got the internet, all I did was moan moan moan about the cost of our phone bill etc. Then one Sunday afternoon I was poorly in Bed and my husband decided to search for his father, whose name thank goodness is not common. He used this search engine and entered his fathers surname, ( I should add my husband was adopted at the age of five) After he entered the name up popped web pages each containg his fathers name.     After trying hard to start my family tree on countless occassions and looking at loads at different web sites to help me do so - i can firmly say this has to be the best starting point for all those keen genealogists out there. this easy to use site could not make life more easy when it comes to searching for a certain family surname or even one particular person. if there is any hope of finding that long lost relation then this is the place to start - it is so easy to use and gives you a great list of all search results - if only looking for everything online was as easy to use as this site ... more

    This is a well useful site for someone who wishes to dig deep into their family History and trace their ancestors. At first glance of the site I was very impressed by the way it looks very professional. I have tried to search for an ancestor vaguely once, and i'm afraid it did not work out fine, not any matches were made. I feel that this site is a great starting point for tring to find family but I feel you would need to do a lot more investigative work on your own as well, and read up on various family history books etc.. To actually find relatives you need to do more than just type a few ... more

    If you are investigating your family history one of the best places to start on the net is the site of Jesus Christ Of The Latter Day Saints, or Mormons. This may sound like an odd place to start, particularly for the UK but because of their family beliefs they have built up a very large resource centre. Their web address is www.familysearch.org Their site contains a step by step guide explaining what information you can get where and how to access it, how to get copies of certificates etc. It is very easy to use.     Although there are many web pages containing links to hundreds of genealogy web sites, the only site which I’ve found to be truly useful is www.familysearch.org, an on-line searchable database of genealogy data. There aren’t many entries for the 20th Century, but from my searches there appears to be plenty of entries beyond that. I managed to find around 20 people in one branch of my family in the UK in one afternoon, and having since compared my results to research previously carried out by another family member the data was correct.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Is not 100% accurate, so you would need to find proof, but a good place to start

    I have been able to trace my Family tree back to 1546. The web site that I found most usefull was www.familysearch.org. It is run by The church of Jesus Christ. Buth has a very large Database of Full details, GED files & Pedigree Files. If you are into Genealogy then This is a most for research. You can search the site by The person you are interested only, with thier parnters name, with thier parents name, Date of birth within 0-5 years, area of birth. You are able to download the GED files for the people you have found, and then Import in to any good Genealogy Software. They also sell lots ... more

    Isn't technology wonderful? 10 years ago, anyone wanting to research their family tree would have had to spend long hours searching files in dusty rooms or wandering around old grave yards. Today it is much easier to get a head start. Familysearch.org is very easy to use. You simply enter the details of the person you are interested in researching (name, spouse, country of origin etc.) then click on search. Relevant links are then displayed. If you find the person you are after, details of the record and where it was obtained are shown for further research. Best of all this website is free to ... more
